Wow...Outrage over Stroller Rental Price Increase...What's that About?

Adding insult to injury, apparently there is also a $100 deposit fee charged to your credit card. See the thread.

It really looks like Disney is trying to drive guests to purchase its probably-vastly-overpriced $40 strollers that I'm told are now available in the parks.

Segment suggestion: do a review of a $40 WDW stroller versus a $40 Wal-Mart stroller.

:scared1: :scared1: Just when you thought it couldn't get any more outrageous...

Here's the webpage that was referenced in that thread, for anyone who wants to read it:

On my recent trip to WDW, I...

  1. Ordered one of the Jeep 3-wheelers online from walmart.com
  2. Upon arrival in Florida, I picked-up the stroller at the local WM store in Kissimmee.
  3. Compared to a rental, I saved some money (and had a nice stroller to take home for future use).
Not that "my way" is everyone's way, but it certainly worked-out well for me and my family -- perhaps some of you "hard-core" Disney types could buy a really nice stroller and do a "stroller swap" (much like some of the DISers do with the refrigerators at POP).

Now there is a good thought. Those DISH board people can overcome. And another use for Kevin's beloved lockers besides childcare....

How many agree with my comment.....READ ON....this is the email I sent WDW

HOW MANY SHARE MY STATEMENT THAT I MADE TO DISNEY.....below is the email that I sent to GUESTSERVICES.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, I will like to apologize to the person that will read this that had nothing to do with this outrageous increase.....

NOW.....WHAT THE HE** ARE YOU THINKING. $10 to $15. $8 to $13. $16 to $27 and $18 to $31. This is insane. Nothing can justify the increase. I mean it will cost the same to rent a car as it would to rent a Double stroller from WDW. This is absolutely nuts. THis really has to go back to the board who decided this and rethink it logically. You want to increase it $4 or $5 dollars on a double and maybe $2 on a single that would be a little easier to swallow.....ALL this I hear about Disney doing well during the bad state that the economy is in and that your number in attendance have actually risen compared to that of 06 and Disney turns around and DECREASES the value of the DISNEY DINING PLAN. RAISES ROOM RATES ON WEEKENDS to get another $10 to $15 per WEEKEND NIGHT on Value and Moderate Resorts. Raise ticket prices in August of 07 and now turn around and nail the families who rent strollers with a 60% to 70% increase on stroller rentals.

Can't you people see this is going to eliminate the family who is already on a budget from renting strollers.

This is what will happen.....more families will be bringing strollers into the parks. Then when the mad rush comes at the end of the night to leave the parks like Magic Kingdom........they will be less space on the Monorail, Boat, and Buses because more seats and space will be taken up by Strollers...........You guys are crazy for increases such a high amount. I know that the rate has stayed the same for 3 or 4 years but thats your fault not ours.......and TO HE** WITH YOUR $40 Umbrella Stroller......Don't think that you guys are going to make a killing on that either........you guys are totally going against what is supposed to be a World that Walt Disney vcreated for families to enjoy.......The nightmare scenerio that you guys are going and probably have already created is STUPID. No one really thought this one out totally. It seems as if you will continue to nickel and Dime us as much as you can until we stop going.......thats not the way to go about things..........that is not good business.....you promote on TV how a family of 4 can go to DISNEY for $1600.00 but then once you add on the STROLLER RENTAL it becomes more like $1750........Its Crazy and you guys should be ashamed of yourself............I am very disappointed in this decision and someone has to do something about it. IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

Different Internet boards have everyone up in arms and you as a business need to listen to the people who help drive you business........You may think the increase gives you a better revenue stream but with the decline in stroller rental you will actually see a decrease.....MARK MY WORDS you will not win out on THIS ONE!>>>>>>>>>>GOOD BYE

I agree with you all, this is just too much!! I plan to email as soon as I am done. I want to offer another option to those who need one, check out a babys best friend rental, 4-7 days for a double is $78. I used the service last time and was very happy. Again ,I think that disney is totaly wrong ,but I wanted to try to help someone who's vacation is messed up by this expense!:goodvibes

I'd love to know Disney's reaction to our reaction.

Are they reading the emails, are they reading the boards? Have they gotten feedback at the parks yet? Is someone at Disney thinking they made a mistake, does anyone there feel bad...even a little?

I know alot of people will say Disney probably doesn't care, but I just can't help hoping that they do.

We just got our DVC on Friday, and my wife read that stroller rental was free if you have the Disney Visa Card.

I hope they lower the rates for everyone else.

If this is wrong, then please someone correct me.

As a Disney Visa cardholder, I can't help but hope this is true. HOWEVER, I don't want my good fortune to come on the backs of every other visitor on property who needs a stroller. I think this increase is patently ridiculous.

I agree that this is very bad. Again, I hope that they lower it for everyone.

I don't know if this is new or not, did it say free stroller rental at WDW, because someone was saying on another thread that the Disney Visa thing is only at Disneyland.

And personally if it's true, I'm happy for Disney Visa cardholders, but it still stinks for everyone else. What did they do....raise the price so they could give this perk to Disney Visa cardholders?

I am not sure. I did not read it, my wife did. She only said free stroller rental period, so it could be the way you describe it. I think it is in the fine print. I will check it when I get home.

As of today, at least according to the Disney Visa web page, this is Disneyland only. That annoyed me quite a while back, and even more so now, LOL. We have been Disney Visa holders for a very long time, and it would be nice if they at least offered a discount to card holders at WDW. I can hope right? :)

I copied this from the Disney Visa website...

Free Stroller Rentals at Disneyland
Disney’s Visa Cardmembers can enjoy up to 2 FREE Stroller Rentals when visiting the Disneyland Resort. Stroll along Main Street and enjoy all the exciting new shows and attractions in celebration of the 50th Anniversary.

Offer valid from 4/1/05 through 9/30/06. Present a valid Disney’s Visa Card at time of purchase and use your Disney’s Visa Card or Disney Rewards Card for purchases.

It sounds like this promotion has expired. :confused3

I'm bringing my own stroller anyways becasue it is nicer, but I did write them about this ill-concieved increase because it is plain wrong to do to young families who can least afford it.

TIP - they actually make travel bags that you can put your stroller inside and treat it as regular luggage from OneStepAhead. It really wasn't too expensive and seemd very durable.

We have always brought our own stroller just because our children were too little to use the rental strollers, but I was looking forward to using the rental strollers next year. I guess I will continue to bring my own stroller. We do love our strollers though, we have Maclarens, without doubt the best ones we have ever used. I even use the bag for the stroller from Maclaren when we fly so the strollers wont be destroyed. So I apologize in advance to the people on the buses, boats, monorails etc. who we have displaced because of our strollers, I was hoping to not have that happen anymore but Disney hasn't given me a choice!

KEEP SENDING THOSE DISNEY THOSE EMAILS TO DISNEY GUYS!!!!

I even wrote them a hand written letter that I am sent snail mail.

I sent a e-mail! This is a terrible price increase!
Bobbi

I hope Disney gets FLOODED with complaints. I think maybe they thought they could "sneak" this increase by us. It goes into effect in 2 days!

I'm just so angry over this (I feel like Pete) it's just disgusting.

Here is the email address. EVERYONE should email Disney about this!
Stroller renter or not.

wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

I just sent my email. We arrive in the World at the end of next week and were going to bring one stroller and rent a single. Now I'm looking into buying another to take or renting from an outside source there. I say this could cause some families to change how long they stay in the World. Depending on the resort they stay at one night could equal a length of stay stroller price.
