Wow.....now that isn't very clear............(new pricing....yikes!)

Completely agree...........but 9.3% seems large doesn't it?

Doug :goofy:

There's a study done that shows that it takes up to a 10% change in price or size of the product before a customer either dissatisfied or takes notice. For example, if Reese's decreases the size of a peanut butter cup by 8%, people won't really take notice or care. If they decrease it by 11%, people will take notice.

In this case, Disney increased the price pretty much as much as possible before consumers became "dissatisfied."

FWIW, I have been tracking the increase in ticket price since I bought a few years ago. I figured better than cash sitting in a bank at .1% interest.
2007 - 6%
2008 - 4%
2009 - 3%
2010 - 7%
2011 - 9%
2012 - 8%
2013 - 6%
2014 - 4%
2015 - 4%
2016 - 8%
Based on WDW gate price, no tax, 10-day wpf&m tix.

I'm confused. Thinking that Disney had updated prices on their website after the price increase, I went to price out various options for our September vacation to add to my planning spreadsheet. The prices Disney quoted (rack rate including 10 Day WPF&M+PH) were the same as what I was seeing prior to the increase. Is Disney just not posting the new prices to the site yet, or is there something I'm missing?

They typically don't increase package prices right away. They have posted the individual ticket increases.

I am planning a trip for 2018. For my trip in 2014, tickets purchased in 2013, the price for 9 day hoppers with tax were $828.70 with tax for two adults. The same tickets purchased today show an increase of 18% to 977.68 with tax. If the trend continues, 9 day hoppers will be more than 25% higher by the time I go again (assuming I buy in 2017). I make trip budgets and put money aside to cover our expected cost and buy Disney gift cards. We have decided to reduce our time at Disney to compensate so when 2017 ticket prices are revealed, we will compare costs and buy whatever comes closest to the original price in 2013. So Disney, you get the same amount of ticket money from me but less dining and less hotel.

I am not going to purchase tickets in advance now because I look for deals on packages and we haven't decided whether to rent DVC points or just do a package yet. I have all the data in spreadsheets so I can see how much we pare off of the Disney portion of our vacation and add to US/IOA, Sea World, Busch Gardens etc. I usually get an Orlando Flex Pass for those so 14 days.

I agree that the price increase may start to price some families out, but isn't that the point? People are complaining about how crowded it is, aren't they? We aren't a family that goes to Disney every year, we go every few years, because we enjoy going lots of difference places. Families always have to decide how important Disney is; for some they have to go once a year others it's a one and done kind of thing. Either way the prices are going to continue to go up each year.

There is absolutely zero correlation between raising prices 10% and lower crowds. In fact over the last 5 years the 1 day ticket price has gone up nearly 50%... crowds are higher than ever. This has zero to do with crowds and everything to do with increasing revenue.

I'm OK with paying more, but I want to GET more for that cost. Unfortunately the trend has been less and less value for the price.
