I just called to try to get a room only for Dec 12. Not a room to be had at WDW.

What recession?

Often you can not get a room for just 1 night, but it some will magically appear for 3 night reservations. Also, I have been able to get a single night on Expedia when I could not get one through Disney.

:surfweb: Hi,
Thanks for the tip..

Room availability is NOT directly tied to park crowds. WDW is such a huge conference site that it's tough to make the correlation.

just checked and there were several rooms at different resorts open for a one night stay Dec 12..

I also had no trouble looking up a room on disneys website. Several resorts still available.

I'm thinking she meant to say she couldn't get use two rooms together. What she said was "I have no availability for any resort on that day".

Do you think they've released some rooms and I should try again?

We used to live in Orlando and would always just stay one night at a Disney resort with no issues. In fact, we were upgraded several times to concierge with no extra cost. Maybe it was because we were passholders but there was almost always room availble somewhere on property. Now, December is the busiest time of year so it may be tougher! Otherwise, one night stays at WDW awere never a issue for us! Hope this helps:santa:

DH and I were in Orlando on our honeymoon 5 years ago next week. We went to Epcot, Cape Canaveral and a few other places - no lines/crowds at any of them! We decided 2 weeks ago to make a short trip to WDW for our anniversary. Surprisingly there were few rooms available. Our TA got ADR's for us - Illuminations all sold out for the nights we plan to be there and she could get ADR's for 8 PM at the earliest (which was fine with us). We had no problems getting excellent flights - which I thought would be the hard part. We're looking forward to the trip - just hoping we don't get a blizzard at home the way we did on our wedding day (landed in Orlando at 11:30 PM and got to our time share at 1AM - 12 hours behind schedule).

Pop Warner books up much of All-Star Sports and part of All-Star Music, but the kids spend their days in practice and games, so they don't affect the park crowds much at all.

MouseFest is a total of less than 2,000 people, booking maybe 800-1,000 rooms (out of over 36,000 total), spread all accross WDW property. MouseFest also doesn't affect park crowds much, though you may see roving groups of MFers in the park of the day.

I don't know what's tieing up rooms this year, but I think it's a combination of many factors, starting with travel agents locking up big blocks for conventions, and Disney's room rehab schedule locking out blocks of rooms at various resorts.

It's also possible that the massive changover in the Disney dining reservation system is having some fallout effect, since the dining and room reservation systems are at least connected, though that's probably unlikely. Or they could be making some changes to the room reservation system at the same time that they're changing the dining system.

Whatever the cause of the room shortage, as Cruz91 said, room availability is not directly related to park crowds, so don't panic. I've been to WDW for MouseFest the last 5 years in a row, and the park crowds are ust not that bad. I also expect crowds to be a bit thinner this year due to the recession - YES, Virginia, there IS a recession on, whether you feel the squeeze yourself or not - and although fuel is cheaper now, it was quite high for most of this year and that has eaten up a lot of peoples' vacation budgets.

I have been trying to play online at their site and it's just in Please wait mode as it's looking for availability. Maybe their systems are down?

I'm going 12/13-17 and have called many times to try to change my ADR's and there have not been any available at all! That has me worried!

I wouldn't let that worry me. We usually go at slower times and I have had trouble with ADR's last minute. To me it doesn't say anything about crowd levels. The restaurants can't hold as many people as the parks can.

I was checking out the AP holder site and there was ALOT of avail rooms for Dec 13-21 and some have even opened at resorts that hadn't just a month ago.

let us all enjoy...

;) :cloud9: :scared1:

We will be there the 12th to the 16th, which is a holiday weekend. It is also twirlmania when thousands of twirlers compete at the milkhouse. Also there are usually soccer tournaments during that time too. our experience is that Saturday and Sunday are extremely crowded. We are staying at POFQ, because we could not get ressies at FW.
