WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Well friends, I sent in 11 items today, 2 were 14k gold, the rest 10k. I weighed it on our postage scale at work and it said it weighed an ounce. I took my items to a shipping store and Fedex'd it at around 2:00. Hopefully I will get a call tomorrow, if not surely by Thursday. Wish me luck! Hoping to get at least $100.00. Fingers crossed!!!

Good luck, pixidust princess!

We learned that the gold is weighed but also analyzed for purity, so all effect the price we get.

Hope you get a nice surprise! I am sure you will get a call tomorrow afternoon - mine came about 5:20 p.m. last Friday and it had been picked up by FedEx Thursday evening about 7:30. Have not received my check yet - hopefully tomorrow!!

Yeah, the purity issue is why I am only hoping for 100.00. If I went by weight or pieces sent, it should be around 220.00, based on their website. I have NO idea about the whole purity issue, so I am only shooting for 100.00

Is USGB still paying out pretty good for gold? Remind me again how do you figure out the price in pennyweight? My dh has a horseshoe ring he is wanting to get rid of that was pretty expensive when he bought it. Im thinking he might get the best deal sending it to them rather than trying to sell it outright.

I rarely post links, so let's see if I did this correctly:

http://www.metric-conversions.org/online-calculator.htm

If it works, click on "weight conversions" and type in what you want to convert from and to. If you've weighed your items on a conventional scale, you'll want to convert from "ounces" to "pennyweights." Then you can type in the number of ounces and voila!

If you've weighed your items on a jewelers' scale, you'll need to convert from "troy ounces" to "pennyweights."

Edited to add:

Mellie, if you have a local jeweler who purchases jewelry for resale, you might want to ask what they would pay. You could compare that to an approximation from USGB or other precious metals refiner. The refiners pay for scrap metal; jewelers may pay for it as jewelry. It really depends on whether it's something they could resell easily for profit or not.

I may try this first. Last year I actually took some really nice pieces to a local and he offered me less than 200. USGB at that time offered me close to 900, so I dont know if it will be worthwhile to take it to him. Im in a rural area so only 1 jeweler around here. I may have my husband stop in at a jeweler on his way to work one day in the city.

Ok question. Have any of you sent in items with diamonds in it and gotten a fair price for them? I think for an ounce of 14kt it would be around 538 but my dh ring also has about a carat of diamonds in it.

I have been reading this thread with great interest, have even gathered together some broken chains, old rings, etc.. I was planning on using one of the mail-in sites recommended here, then I saw an ad in our local paper today that 'Precious Metals & Gems, Inc.' is in town at a local hotel for a few days to purchase gold, jewels, etc.
Does anyone know anything about them? Thanks so much for any help.

I have nothing but great things to say about www.usgoldbuyers.com. I sent my package yesterday, and payment of $305.00 was in my paypal account today. Much more than I expected!!!!! I can breath a bit easier about our trip in 2 weeks now, knowing everything is taken care of!!!

Finally took the plunge. I"m waiting for FedEx to pick up. Using USGB.

I called a couple stores in my area and could not find anyone who bought locally.

Here is what I"m sending-

2 gemstone rings
1 diamond engagement ring
2 cross pendants with chains
1 herringbone necklace
1 chain necklace
2 chain bracelets
1 herringbone bracelet
1 charm bracelet
3 charms with gems
2 odd earrings

I'll post again when I get my offer.

Hello...I've been lurking here for months and I don't think I've come across an answer to my question. Maybe someone out there can help me?

I'm gathering up the few pieces I have to send in and I was wondering if I can include individual gold earings (I've lost the others to the pairs). I know it won't add to much in weight but I have a few of them and I'm not going to do anything with them anyway....

Thoughts?

Also, did anyone send in silver as well? Did you send it separately or could you just put it all in the same package?

Thank you! I'm hoping to get a few dollars for my upcoming trip and I'm encouraged by the responses folks have been getting from USGoldbuyers so I'll give it a whirl....

You can send in anything...mismatched earrings, broken chains, etc. Anything you have will add to the total weight, which - hopefully - will add to your payout total.

You can send silver in the same package, too, but silver only pays a fraction of what gold is worth...gold is going for over $1,000/oz. whereas silver is hovering around the $17 mark.

Have you been to their website? Lots of helpful information there.

I am impatiently waiting for my $215 check! Its not huge, but when you consider that everything I sent was headed for the garbage, its really good!! I sent chains that were broken and knotted way past any repair, earrings without mates, one ring with a missing stone and one ring that was bent so badly that it could never be straigtened! This wasn't stuff I just no longer wear, this is stuff I should have thrown away years ago! I am VERY excited about my check!

What all did you send in?

I don't think I ever heard a cleart answer, but are any of you getting moeny for gemstones? I have a good karats worth a diamond on a braclet that I don't wear, I wondered if they pay for that too?

Fed Ex came must earlier than I expected. I didn't take a picture of my things and now I'm a nervous wreck.

Hope I didn't make a huge mistake!

I went to USGB's offices to sell my gold in person. A few of the pieces I sold contained gemstones or small diamonds. They offered to remove them and give them back to me, but I wasn't planning to use them in other jewelry, so I left them alone.

When my gold was weighed, the gemstones were weighed along with them. I'm sure their weight wasn't substantial, but my thinking was every little bit helps, you know?

PS - just wanted to add that diamonds are worth next to nothing, compared to what gold is worth. My sister went to several diamond brokers in NYC's Diamond District, looking to sell a 1 ct. diamond from a ring she no longer wears. The ring was appraised at $6,500...the most she was offered was a measly $800!

Not to worry!! I did not take a picture of what I sent and deposited my $1458.47 check yesterday! :thumbsup2
