WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Lesley,
Get your items back....
USGB or Gold fellows for certain would give you more $$$

I have done both, waiting now on goldfellows payout...but they are super friendly and FAST too!

Angela

Lesley -
I second Angela's opinion -- get it back and send it somewhere else -- that seems like a very low payout to me.

Lesley,
I agree with the last two posts. I haven't sent anything off yet but after reading everything here it sounds like you aren't getting enough. I would get my gold back and try somewhere else.

Well, the news is in... I was so hoping that I would have been happy with goldfellow...:( but they only wanted to offer me 205.00

so I called USGB... and told him the read out and he told me it would be 341.00 with them....

Now, if I requestr my gold back from goldfellow... do I have to pay shipping charges?

Angela

Ok...so I just sent mine in and hoping for a good amount. I had a mixture of 14K and 10K. I couldn't make out a few. Here is what I sent to USGB.

4 chains
1 heart pendant
2 rings
5 bracelets
5 earrings
2 earring backs
10 gold charms
1 charm holder
16 beads
3 silver charms

I'll let you know what comes of it. Thanks for everyone's help!

My package arrived at USGB this morning and they called this afternoon....

Drum roll please.......

$3,163!!!!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!

Woohoo! Congratulations!

How does $9 per gram for 14k sound?
TIA

9 grams = 5.787 dwt (actually, two more very small decimal places, but I'm keeping it simple)

Go to the USGB and goldfellows websites and multiply the current daily rate for the type of gold (i.e., 10K, 14K, 18K) by the pennyweight. I don't know what adjustment USGB makes for weights under 5 oz, but I'm guessing 25% and hoping less. So you would take their payout rate minus 25% and multiply that by 5.787. At goldfellow's, you would add 10% DIS bonus payout to their payout and multiply by 5.787.

This assumes that your gold assays at exactly 14K. Some does, some doesn't.

But it would give you an idea of the possibilities. :)

If I have less then 5 oz should I use goldfellows??? I am ready to send to USGB but I am pretty sure I have less then 5oz. It just seems like USGB is paying more.
Any tips would be great!

I'm thinking about sending my old gold and silver jewelry in to Goldfellow, and I see they accept silver, but I don't see anything on their site about how much they pay for it (I only see rates for gold). Does anyone know?

Hmmm I accepted my offer of $357 last Thursday for USGB, I am wondering how long it will be before I get a check. How long has it taken for everyone else to recieve theirs? I have more stuff to send out but am waiting for my first check before I do.

Accepted my offer last Wednesday evening, got my check in the mail yesterday -- you should get yours today or tomorrow. Good luck!

OK, this may sound dumb, and maybe it has already been addressed somowhere in this goliath of a thread, but...how do I figure out if what I have is actually gold, and not gold plated or something else? I have tons of old chains with charms from when I was growing up, but I have no clue if they are real gold or not. Any help?

Thanks!

Help anyone.
I have tried googling Gold fellow and keep ending up in some other spot. Can some one post the site so I can call them?

As to melting down stones??? I don't think so! They are pocketing those probably. I think I would just pop mine out.
Thanks.

www.goldfellow.com
it will be on the top of the page...

Yup. take them out....(stones)
I was told by both places the get melted down unless you want them back, but then are charged for that

So, i delcined my offer today from Goldfellows.. when I receive it back it will be going to USGB they quoted me and then my DH later 130 more..when we gave them the break down!

Hey I will take more $$$

If it helps, I found this website that will convert any weight you have into other weights. For example, you can enter 3 oz, and it will convert it to 85 grams, or 54 pennyweights, etc. It's an easy way to convert your gold into pennyweights which is how these gold buyers pay out. The site is:

http://saveonscales.com/weight_converter.html

Does USGB send you the fed ex envelope kit, like Gold fellows does? I thought I requested from both, and received Gold fellows, but never got anything other than an email from USGB?? Just curious ... TIA

FYI you can convert on google too! In the search bar type in something like "52 grams to pennyweight" and google will convert it :)

I checked my gold w/ a magnet if I couldn't find the marks. The local gold buyer I went to did that as well.

I would use USGB for any amount, just do your homework! Like I said my estimate was around $800, their offer was $671. When I did the math w/ their weights and current prices my amount came out to about $1k! So they went back and double checked my gold and re-offered $824!
