WOW - I just sold my old gold........

WTG! :thumbsup2 When you originally posted what you had sent, I KNEW you were gonna have a great payout, considering what you sent! That is awesome! I'm so glad you had a great payout!

For anyone who wants to know how long it takes to get a check from USGB -- they received my pkg last monday, called with a quote on Wednesday evening and I received my check for $891 today -- so 1 week turnaround until I had $$ in my hand. Now, if I could just bring myself to put that "found" money in the bank rather than taking it to disney.............

I have a very heavy ladies nugget ring, heavey nugget charm and a nugget bracelet. I am just a little concerned about mailing them into someone. I would hate to see that I am cheated. Should I go to my local jeweler first to see what he is willing to pay me? They are all 14K and were made from all jewelry a few years back when that kind of thing was in style. Well all was made at a jeweler except the bracelet.

Wheeww! You took time to read that whole thing?? LOL. My pleasure. ;) Hope it helps everyone make a decision whether or not to go thru that old gold jewelry now, or try to be patient and hold onto it a bit longer. When I figured out how much extra Disney money I could have in my pocket, I sent it right out (you can see I have NOOOOO patience!)

I did, too. I am enjoying reading these posts working my way up to page 80 something. Thanks for the information.

I understand exactly what you are saying...even after reading these posts, I was verrrryyyyy skeptical about just mailing my gold off to someone. But I took the plunge, and I'm very happy with the outcome (well, once my check actually clears, I'll be verryyyy happy, lol...guess I'll hold onto every little piece of skepticsm until I have to give it up ;) )

It might make you feel better to take your gold to a local jeweler, to get an idea of what it might be worth -- but, it's been my experience (and I've read the same thing alot here) that you will get MORE from USGB or Goldfellows -- you just have to be able to "trust" that you're not being taken advantage of. It helped put my mind at ease by doing some research -- figuring out what each company is paying per DWT, keep an eye on the market to see what gold is doing on a daily basis, weigh your stuff before sending it, check the BBB for negative reports....)
Good luck, whatever you decide. :)

what is the website for Goldfellows? is this the one that gives the dis memebers an extra 10%?

I called USGB about my amount. They kinda agreed that $1001 to $671 was a bit off. So they are going to look it all over again.

So now I'm back to waiting again.....

Can anyone help out a mathmatically-challenged girl? :rotfl2: I did read the pages with all the calculations but I still have trouble getting it. I just sent a package to USGB today. I had 1.7 oz of gold in it (I weighed it on a scale at the post office). It was about 1/2 10KT & 1/2 14K. I have played with the numbers & have come out with all different results. I am just looking for an rough estimate. Help Please!! :goodvibes

Ok, I'm going to try this. Printed out the label from Gold Fellows, when I go to the Fed Ex store, are the envelopes there free?? do I just help myself to them?

There's a couple steps you have to do to get to final payout. I think I can give you a rough estimate.
1.7 oz = 30.98 DPW. Using figures from today's USGB website -- if it was all 10k that would be 30.98 x $18.37 = $569.10 - 10% (since it's less than 5 oz) = $512.19. If it was all 14K, that would be 30.98 x $25.75 = $797.73 - 10% = $718.00. So, that gives you a rough estimate of:
$512.19 to $718.00. Assuming the perfect world, your payout would fall somewhere between these two figures.
Keep in mind, this is assuming it is all REAL gold, and that there are no stones included (which would lower the gold total) and that the postage scale was right. Does that help???;)

And to the other poster: goldfellows website is: www.goldfellow.com

I just wanted to say that Last week on Monday Ishipped to USGB...and I called them again about shipping a diamond ring, and I was really debating who to go through seeing my flight tickets go on sale on Thursday and this $$ is for that... well USGB guy said to me that I should just keep the diamond he said and I quote" maybe you can put it on a belt or something" I thought that was rather rude" so I called goldfellow and they talked to me about my options and well thats were the gold went this time.. I shipped it last night at 7pm, with estimated date of delivery being thursday and they have already received it!!!!!

Now I forgot to add that I was a Disboard member... so I just emailed them , and I received a answer already that, they have put my name on the watch list and If my pay out doesn't show the 10% to call... and she said it would be today!!!
Friendly service, fast communication... I hope it is a good payout!
so far they are much more friendly!!!!!

Just ask for a fedex envelope, they'll give you one for free. Good luck. I just sent another package to Goldfellow - theyre so nice to work with.

I just got my call back from USGB. Seems an earring had pallidum in it and threw off the machine. $824! SOLD!

I had 38.9 DWT w/ about 80% 14K and 20% 10K.

fyi, i believe the local jewelers are upping their payouts; may want to check it out...

i took in a small 10K woman's class ring, 2 hollow gold earrings (mismatched), 2 very fine gauge broken necklaces (think thread like) & old tennis bracelet (no more than a carat total wt); walked away with $100 bill:thumbsup2

now i wish i hadn't thrown away my 1st wedding ring;)

not sure if i was taken advantage of or not:confused3 ; just didn't want to deal with sending it away; so i guess my travel fund is ahead as it probably would've kept taking up space in my jewelry box

Thank you so much. I had figures everywhere from $100 to $800. I guess I should have paid better attention in High School! :lmao:

I had 2 oz; one ring 10k, the rest 14k (necklaces and bracelets and one set of earrings) and one long 18k necklace and my total was only $500 at USGB.

It is not just weight but gold purity which is a very big part of it.

Just an fyi...

Ok, I 've been listening to all the excitement long enough and am ready to move on this. Seems like goldfellows is the way to go and mention you are a dis member.
Should I take out any stones prior to mailing?
I have some rings with stones ( emeralds , small but not tossers!).<G>

Also, anyone have the link to their site? or phone number?
Thanks:cool1:

LOL! :lmao: You are very welcome. Just FYI, I used this formula for mine, too and my actual payout was $50 more than my lowest estimate -- so good luck to you! There really are a lot of factors in determining the final payout, but this should get you close. I hope you hit big...but no matter what, I figure it's better than gathering dust in the jewelry box. :thumbsup2

They both told me they melt down the stones with the gold... unless you
want them back, but it costs to have them shipped back... she said the stones aren't worth anthing .. So I parted with mine and took my diamond out.. I will have it set for my dd when she has her sweet 16

I sent off a gold necklace, gold chain, two gold charms (14 K one 10K), 4 watches, an earring, and a gold herringbone bracelet to www.brokengold.com and got a check for only 34.00.
I can return it and send it elsewhere and they'll send my gold back within 10 days, what would you do???:confused3
