Wow - I'm really glad I decided to add onto my BLT contract and not split my points elsewhere - I just tried to book a standard view 1 BDRM and it wasn't available at 1 months (in August, not even the busiest month for DVC). I waitlisted and I'm sure it'll come through, there's a whole 11 months to wait but JEEZ....that's crazy! I was very surprised, I thought she made a mistake!

The Standard View at BLT comprises only about 10 or 20% (don't remember which) of the total rooms available. The bulk of the rooms are Lake View (approx. 70%).

Wow. I am hoping to get a 2bdrm at my 7 month window for the end of August. Planning on a lake view so maybe that will improve my odds.

Yes, OP I agree!!!! I booked on Tuesday this week for August 14-19 in a 1 bedroom standard view and was very nervous I was not going to get a "cheap" room. I did get it and was very relieved. I bought my BLT contract to use for the standard view rooms since the points here are much higher than elsewhere. Since Free dining stars on August 19th, it was important to me to be in WDW prior to the start of the Free DDP frenzy. I just read another thread where a member also called for a room in June at the 11 month window and it was not available (not sure which view she was trying for -- standard or MK view). I agree, it's amazing to have a difficult time at the 11 month window for AUGUST?? Maybe others are thinking like me and trying to get in (and out) before the Free DDP starts.

Just curious if all of BLT has been declared yet. (I know what the guides have been quoted as saying, but some of them seem to be about as knowledgeable about the numbers as the bus drivers)

If there are still units to be declared, this could account for some of the difficulty in making those 11month out reservations and a wait-listing for the room type you want is definitely your best bet.

This is making me nervous. Going to be booking our first trip home next week for the end of August.

I couldn't get a standard studio for my initial reservations in the beginning of June at 11 mos, I had to call the other day to adjust our dates so we'd arrive early and low and behold the last week of May was no problem, I ended up booking 9 nights in a standard studio.:banana:

We called at 7 months to get a 1 bedroom standard view for the last week of Aug (2010) and were not able to get it. We got a lake view. It was nice - we were able to sit on the balcony and watch the water parade. I would have loved to save the points though!

some of us dont have the points to get a lakeview. If I can't get into the room for the week I want, there will definately be some problems. The good thing is that we havent closed yet before we book the room, so that could be a deciding factor and a call to my guide!

Crazy!

Wow I didn't think that would be a problem getting the standard studio at 11 months out. I already have reservations for June, 2011 (1 BR Lakeview). However we want to go for three days starting on the day after Thanksgiving (Fri-Sun) in November 2011 in a standard view studio. If you couldn't get it for August, I am thinking there is no way I will get it for the weekend after Thanksgiving at 11 months out even if I call first thing. Now I am starting to be bummed.

DH & I knew that getting a room at BLT would be difficult without an 11 mo window and that's why we added on. We are always stuck during high times as I am a teacher as are our children. I guess if you really want the rooms you have to make sure you call as soon as you can or be flexible with the dates or the views.

How are you going to book before you close? Or are you talking about your 10 day back out period.

I would reconsider DVC, if you are going to be upset not getting what you want, you will most likely be disappointed at some point and be posting here....getting little sympathy. It is part of the deal, you are not guaranteed availability.

This thread needs to be reposted or moved to the DVC Planning board - there are a few folk over there who are practically experts on availability and DVC resort point declaration. Chances are excellent that if more points are declared in the time frame between now and the OP's trip that they will get what they're looking for (depends on the length of the WL).

Sounds like ospopo5 is reconsidering. The thought "booking before you own isn't' possible" went through my mind when I read that statement too.

Agree that if Standard view points are that important, then I would not purchase. You need to have a cushion or be very flexible.

The title of this thread should be changed. BLT is available at 11 months, just not standard.

Just to clarify - I am totally flexible on where I stay...I was just surprised, that's all....I am fully aware that regardless of time of year I have to be flexible with DVC - BLT is my first choice, but I am open to changing at 7 months, or waiting for the wait list, or doing a split stay. Was not trying to make anyone think I don't "get the value" of it.

I am typing this from my standard view studio at BWV (using my FREE high speed internet which I think is super cool), so believe me right now I see the value of DVC!!!

Also changing the title - I understand that point!

I think you are fine, we got a little off track with the PP who seems upset they might not get what they want every time they book.

It is interesting that the SV's are getting booked up early. I guess the newness of MK views are already wearing off. Most of those types of views will be tried by members at least once, then a good portion will become more conservative with points.....maybe we are already moving into that time frame.

I figure that the SV's at BLT will be as popular as at other resorts and just might become quite difficult to book anytime and almost impossible at 7 months.

If there are a lot of BLT buyers who bought with the intention of frequently/always staying in standard view rooms, there are going to be a lot of disappointed buyers. BLT is not a resort designed to accomodate points frugality.

If you are willing to waitlist, it is possible.

Last year, I waitlisted for 6 nights in a 1 bedroom SV at BLT. Check in date was the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It came through. I had a back up reservation at my home resort, so it would have been just fine if it hadn't worked. But it did. I called as soon as MS opened on the first day my 7 month window opened.

Good luck!

Apologies for getting everyone off track.

Got what I needed there. Only being it definately paid being a new member and having a great guide!

And yes we booked before we are closed. So no problems with that either.
