WOW! Alcohol to be Served in the MK

Walt is rolling... he never wanted alcohol in the MK. Never. Safe, clean & family-friendly - that was his vision. I'm not a fan of this decision.

Wow. Mixed emotions.

As a lover of wine and beverages, I'm thrilled and agree that it makes sense to serve wine at a French restaurant.

On the other hand.....Walt's wishes.

FYI, I'm hoping the mods let this thread stand so we can see an adult discussion regarding this. I have a stinkin' feeling that the thread in Parks is going to deteriorate quite quickly since discussion regarding this topic usually does over there.

I have mixed emotions regarding it too. I like a beer once in a while when it's hot at the parks. I rarely have a glass of wine or any other alcoholic beverage with dinner but I sure like the option should I choose to.

What really rubs me the wrong way is the way they are pretentiously hiding it inside one building. As Yoda said, and I paraphrase, "Do, or don't do."

Don't act like kids smoking behind the neighborhood dumpster. You already changed the rule. Period. Let adults be adults, and serve discreetly throughout the park, just like the other 3 major gates (and EVERYWHERE else on-property for that mater!). If they get drunk, kick'em out.

As long as it was the standard (none at all), I was OK with it. I accepted it as the way it was and really had no problem with it no more than I drink anyway. The way they're acting about it though, just rubs me wrong.

Club 33 doesn't count as that's a pay club inside Disneyland so there's my knock against that argument before it comes up. BOG is going to be a public restuarant.

They might as well just put up a sign that says, "We think it's wrong to serve alcohol in the MK but there's just too much money to be made so we're going to sell it only in this box over here. Shhhhh! Don't tell anybody though!"

Horse hockey.

I dont see a problem with it. I have never had anything to drink at any of the parks but i dont have a problem with other people drinking.

I LOVE beer and would gladly leave the park to slam a few then go back. But I don't think they should do this its not necessary

I don't see a problem with it. In fact, it would be nice if they'd add wine at Tony's, too. I've never actually understood the distinction between MK and the other parks. Don't families take the same kids to those parks, too?

My only issue is that it's probably going to be even more difficult to get a reservation at Be Our Guest now that all the dads are going to want to go there now. :rotfl2:

This decision has no impact on me or my family whatsoever. That will probably be the case for just about everyone. Let's guesstimate...

How many people in the MK on any given day eat at one specific restaurant?

What are the number of people who would dine at BOG?

What number of those people will order beer or wine?

Of those people, how many will drink to the point of noticeable excess?

One other variable is the people who have been smuggling in alcohol for years.

Another variable is the people who have already been drinking when they arrive at MK.

Another variable is how many people have an unpleasant experience with someone who has over-imbibed?

Let's just hope the revenue generated from this will result in some MK park improvements:earsboy:

Thanks for the very rational post. I agree with you. It's a non-issue. All of this "rolling in grave", etc is just hyperbole. If alcohol is so bad, then it wouldn't be in the other parks (or even legal). The morality police can continue to police their own families and leave the rest of us alone.

:drinking1 ;)

WESH-TV quote: "It hasn't really made sense before but it makes sense when you're in a French restaurant,"

Yeah, cause when you at Liberty Tree Tavern, it makes no sense.

I'm good with this, but it is probably the tip of the MK alcohol iceberg. Which is OK with me, too. I get sick of all of the caffeinated diet soda. I enjoy a beer or glass of wine midday when I am on vacation. We often plan to eat at Chef Mickey for dinner on one of our MK days so we can leave the park and have an adult beverage.

i guess i'm ok with it but when they start asking me if i want my dole whips spiked or not spiked, that's a problem.

I have no problem with alcohol (I enjoy it far too often). But for the purist in me I think it would be nice to stay true to what Walt wanted for the MK. No moral issue here. Just thinking about the vision that Walt had.

Also agree that if they do it in one restaurant, add it to the other TS places. A tavern after all is no tavern without beer. Don't use the "it's a French restaurant so it doesn't make sense not to have French wine" line. That's a bunch of crap.

I'm only upset about it because I couldn't get a BOG reservation on my trip! But honestly I think alcohol in MK should be an all or nothing type thing.

Does any one know if Gaston's Tavern will serve beer? Or, is it just BOG?

We are not big drinkers, but I don't see this as being a big problem. We have never had any problems at other parks with guests being drunk, so until we start seeing alcohol related problems I don't see the problem with it. I find it hard to believe that people will flock to MK now to go drink themselves into a drunken stuper. Not to mention I'm sure it will be quite expensive to drink a lot within the park.

I rarely drink so it doesn't really effect me. I've rarely noticed drunks at other parks. Its usually at Epcot. I hope MK is super vigilant with drunks.

My very small and very conservative hometown went wet last year so I guess I'm not really surprised at MK going wet.

I did think about what Captain Jack says at the end of his tutorial. I've heard him say that he is heading over to Epcot because it is a wet port. I guess he can just head to Be Our Guest instead.

I'm not a fan of the decision. It just removes one more iota of Walt's legacy. You have the statues, but you are not honoring a value he thought was important.
