your in class and you need to like get a drink or go to the bathroom or get something from your locker and you could just leave without asking? it's soo annoying to wait until the teacher is done talking.. and talking.. and talking some more. lol

When I was in elementary school, I was REALLY REALLY shy. I was always so afraid to ask to go to the bathroom or something. I have no idea why!

for what its worth, in college, you can just get up and leave. but you also don't have to go to class at all in college. :confused3

This is why college is so great. Unless the professor specifies you have to ask permission, you can do whatever you want, even leave if you have to if you get bored or something.

Its so disrespectful when people get up and leave in the middle of a lecture though. Its one thing if they're going to the bathroom, cause they leave their books. But when you just pack up and leave, thats awful. You might as well not come to class.

The classes where I packed up and left I generally wished I didn't come to class. For one class I showed up enough to get the materials for the class that day and then would sit there until I had them done (the teacher was so slow) and then I left.

I always stayed for the classes I cared about and I got an A in every class that I used to leave like that. In my opinion if I can attend half your classes and still get an A your class is WAY to easy and you need to start moving along and challenging the class!!

Now I'm doing my Masters but that is entirely online so I can just fast forward or skip when it sucks.

When I get up and leave, I make sure the professor has their back turned, like writing on the chalkboard or something, and quietly slip out of the classroom.

At my school, sometimes all I have to do is raise my hand, and the teacher will nod.

::yes::
Although, I do think it's fine to leave in the middle of class as long as you've had it approved by the professor beforehand. I had one professor this semester who would give out special assignments in class, and if you weren't there at the exact time she handed it out, you were out of luck. In that case, since it was a night class (6-7:15pm MW), people would let her know they had to leave at a certain time, and as long as they did that they were allowed to have the assignment.

This is a little OT, but there is this girl in the class I mentioned above that always comes to class 5 minutes before it starts, sits there for 3 or 4 minutes, then gets up, leaves, and doesn't come back. Why would you walk all the way to class only to sit there for a few minutes BEFORE class starts and then get up and leave? I don't get it :confused3

in my school there is one teacher that won't let us leave even if she is done talking and then when the bell rings she gets mad at the ones who run out to go to the bathroom she also gives detentions like every 4 seconds i'm only glad i'm quiet so i've never gotten one

I'm allowed to leave every class except one without asking. All I have to do is take the hall pass. But i think that has something to do with my schools senority thing. Seniors get treated as adults.

My school, we had to and wait til the teacher done with whatever they may be doing and hoping that they will write you a pass when there done... Sometimes they forgot which really stinked. :headache:

I have/had 2 teachers so far in middle school that have gotten mad at me for asking if I could go to the restroom. Also, a kid in my class got up to throw away something and sharpen his pencil BEFORE class started and yelled at him to sit back down in a VERY angry tone! Then there's the teacher who goes into a HUGE lecture whenever we don't raise our hands to ask a question even if she isnt speaking at the moment. She gets mad at us for talking in class even if we get to class early and dont have to start yet.
>:( That same teacher got mad at me for not having my book open when I did! It was in my lap and she didnt see it and when she did shes like "Well, OKAY! But YOU better keep up!" WHAT THE HECK? I was! ???? :/ Then she accused me of drawing in class because she saw drawings in my notebook....Those were from another time. I had lost my school notebook and for one day I used a drawing notebook for notes...! LEARN THE FACTS BEFORE YOU JUDGE, WOMAN! :< Then she yelled at some kid for laughiing at the word Uranus. I mean, come on... Its immature, but what do you expect from a 13 year old boy? ):O

At my school your planner/assignment notebook/organizer (whatever you like to call it) that is given to you at the beginning of the year is your pass. In the back of it there are like four pages just for getting it signed so you can leave. There is also a smaller version of this on the bottom of each day; ask to leave on May 5th, have it open to May 5th.
You have to write where you are going and what time it is then you have to ask for the teachers initials. That is the general rule, and each teacher adapts it to their needs. My chemistry and world history teachers would tell you just to take the little book with you if you were going to your locker for your textbook. Some teachers tell you to take it with you if class hasn't started yet so that you aren't swept.
Personally I think it would be nice if you didn't have to ask, but it's really not that bad. And if you really have to leave, for like an emergency, like I had once (I was basically passing out), you can just get up and go. I can handle that.

We have that too.

Honestly, get a drink and go to the bathroom in between classes. It's that simple. I mean, is it so hard to wait?
I understand if it's an emergency but other than that just wait.
Getting up in the middle of class just to get a drink is very rude and disrespectful. What the teacher is talking about is important you should be listening.

My campus is the size of a small town, and I have to cross it to get to my classes (which are 15 minutes apart) so, sometimes it is hard to get to the bathroom between class or buy a drink. Also, some of my classes are several hours long. Sometimes you just have to pee!

I agree that its rude to be disruptive and leave, but I can hardly fault someone slipping out to go to the bathroom verses someone gathering up all their stuff and walking out in the middle of a lecture because their lives are so much more important than the rest of us and they're too busy to sit through the lecture that they're paying out the nose to be in.

Last semester of 10th grade I had this really cool honors american lit. teacher everyone just called mr. T. That was probablly the best class i ever had. He was just so goofy and cool and let us basically do what we wanted, text, take pictuers, whatever. But we also learned alot because he was so funny we actually wanted to listen to what he said. We had Wii, beach, and food parties almost every week. Anyways......we were allowed to just get up and go whenever we needed to. Now with that being said, no one was ever really gone long because we were always afraid we would miss something cool or fun. If a teacher is able to do that, then they must be good. :)

I understand if you've really got to go, what else can you do? You just have to go. It's when people "have to go" that I get frustrated.

yeah I get that. It was like in elementary school where one kid asks to go to the bathroom and everyone else has to go too. lol
