the clubs were non-smoking until 11:00PM? Then those of us who cannot handle smoke for health reasons, could enjoy the clubs too.

Nice, but unfort. not very likely. I know everytime I received a survey from staying at wdw I would always write about having a smoking area and the rest of the park being smoke free. It is a family place. They finally have it, but it's not enforced. Which is very sad.

On the Magic, Off Beat is non-smoking all the time. At Sessions, you can only smoke at the bar, the seating area is non-smoking. I never notice smoke when sitting at one of the window seats. Rockin' Bar D allegedly has a non-smoking section, but I couldn't tell where it was. It does get pretty smoky in there at times. The Promenade Lounge and Studio Sea are both non-smoking. ESPN Sky Box allows smoking, but It never really seemed very smoky in there.

It's a tough call for the cruise lines, I think. I'm sure they'll consider many different plans, and there will always be a group of people for whom it doesn't work. People do smoke, especially when they drink. I guess I'm lucky it doesn't bother me that much, although it does bother me a bit more since they've banned smoking in restaurants and bars in California. I guess I'm losing my tolerance....

Carnival has a smoke-free ship, I think it's called the Paradise. Apparently they'll charge you for a first offense, something like $150, and actually put you off the ship for a second offense.

I have asthma and I would like to be able to spend some time in all the clubs. I like the Disney Cruise Line because of their limited smoking areas. We are Disney nuts, always have been and always will be.

I can appreciate your feelings, Pluto & Sdoane, but I respectfully disagree. I am not, nor have I ever been, a smoker. I am also an asthmatic. I feel as long as someone is not blowing smoke in my face, I'm ok with it. Indoors, proper ventilation fans work wonders. I feel that if someone really thinks that sucking tar into their lungs is a good thing, let them go for it.... it's Darwin at work!!!

JMHO....
Erin :)

Proper ventilation is the key here. I do not feel there is any ventilation in the clubs, the whole area smells from stale smoke day and night.

I have asthma, also. Although I can usually sit in a room with smokers (as long as it is not directed at me), I know that after a couple days of it I will start to have problems.

The only place on the ship that was a problem for me was Rockin' Bar D. The ventilation is non-existent there!
 Pluto is right...it stinks day and night! Can we say Febreeze??

mrsltg,
I think a lot depends on how sensitive a person is to smoke. I have respiratory problems, and I can detect a cigarette being lit a mile away! I get so tired of restaurants who have a "non-smoking" section that is literally right next to smoking...I cannot eat that close to smoke. I am usually fine outside unless the wind is blowing smoke right in my face. I think that Disney is much better for non-smokers than RCCL (although I loved the smoke-free casino on Voyager). The only place I have a problem is in Rockin' Bar D/Wavebands during the 70s party. I also didn't like the fact that they allowed smoking during the adult programming that was held in Rockin' on the Magic...I think it should be all non-smoking during presentations, like the theaters. But overall I've never had a problem (unlike Sovereign of the Seas, where I ended up with a whopping sinus infection and a snot nose for the whole cruise). I've seen some people complain about smokers next door to their verandah, but I've only noticed this a couple of times...it's usually not a problem, even for someone sensitive to smoke like me.

And they even allowed smoking in Rockin' Bar D on the Magic during family programming!!! That really surprised me -- especially given that the configuration of the room is such that the separation between smoking and non-smoking sections was almost pointless; the smoke absolutely did not remain confined to the smoking section.

I agree.

There should be comfortable, convenient areas on various decks -- indoors and outdoors -- where smoking is allowed. But these areas should not be in places where those who are sensitive to smoke (or who just hate the smell) have to forgo entertainment and activities that they would otherwise enjoy.

Living in NY we really don't have that problem, most every indoor place is non smoking(except bars) and restarants are non-smoking...if they do have a smoking section it has to be in a fully enclosed room(cancer cell as we call them)...when I go down South I had to eat out since the sections are not seperated!!
We had booked an excursion on the Wonder and when we met in one of the clubs for the excursion in the moring it still stunk like stall smoke in there from the night before!!

From what I understand smoking is allowed in outdoor areas.....like the pool deck! I can't believe that. I wonder how many children's feet have been burned by someone's cigarette butt. Smoking is never allowed around the pools in my town. That just seems to make sense like no glass on the deck.

I think it is only allowed in certain areas outside just like the wdw parks are. I don't (and hope) think that they would allow smoking around the pool area.
