Wouldn't it be nice if DVC offered it this way?

Rent a two bedroom, it sounds to me like someone is trying to get something for nothing. That is what two bedrooms are for. I had 5 people in a Grand Villa once. You really have to give everyone a bedroom for themselves and a bath. The fold down beds in the living room should be used when there is an awkward situation where sharing the second bedroom is not really a good idea. These are suppose to be upscale accomodations not the local dorm at a college or flop house where beds and people are sleeping everywhere. The master bedroom is for two people with a king as it should be. I have been in very few masterbedrooms where their was anything but a king, there might have been one queen bed once but that was in a small resort at a ski area. Oh yes, the master bedroom can be for one person also. I don't want to offend the single parents here. The one bedroom is really there for two people to use, if you have a couple of kids or 3 or 4, I suggest a two bedroom.

Um, how is having people sleeping in the livingroom more "upscale" than having people sleeping in the bedroom, i.e., two beds in bedroom instead of one in bedroom and one pullout in livingroom?

So, you and a friend go on vacation and one of you sleeps in the livingroom and that is "upscale" whereas if there are two beds in the bedroom and no one sleeps in the livingroom that is like a "flop house"?

And who is trying to get something for nothing? There was a question about the logic behind the room set up, I missed any attempts to get something to which someone was not entitled.

Sharper, I believe the original question was about increasing the 1br capacity from 4 people, to 5-6 people. IE: having 2 beds in the master, plus the living room pull out.

I would gladly sacrifice the pullout couch for two beds in the bedroom. What I WOULDN'T sacrifice is all those extra points to get a two bedroom for 3 people. I'm amazed that people can twist things around "beds everywhere"...."flop houses"..."dorms" when it was a question on opinions by someone who was up late one night ;) ;) I still think if the BWV's can "fit" 5 people into a studio plus and still refer to it as "deluxe" I don't think 4 people in a master bedroom is that far of a stretch. Good pts. were made about the logistics of two beds in the master bedroom but boy would I like the option at the new DVC's being built.

I think the pros and cons of essentially one bed in the unit have been discussed, NOT just let's see how many people can be crammed into a one-bedroom.

I don't understand why there can't be a civil discussion without comments which imply attempts at theft and flophouses just because someone presents a different perspective and you may not agree with one's opinion.

Does DVD actually read these boards. I get the feeling no.

If rooms are to small for two queens, we can always go upwards.

THREE SETS OF BUNK BEDS

( can be strategically placed)
(easily sleeps 5-6)
(equal in size -no switching involved)
( no need to use pull-out)
unless you have seven-eight

Feels like some tension building but I could be wrong. Just trying to make everybody take a deep breath and relax.

OK that's enough. What do you think about the bunk beds???

JUST KIDDING

I prefer the Champagne Glass Tub!!!

Actually, I think the idea of a 1BR-Plus is a good one. I would leave the king-sized bed in the master bedroom and I would add a day-bed in the living room. I recently stayed at CR in July and the daybed was plenty big for most people. Actually, I would suggest that this be done for all 1BRs in the new DVC resorts. I think that new Saratoga Springs Resort will need all the help it can get since it will not have location, location, location.

Using BWV or BCV as an example, where would you suggest the day-bed be placed in the living room? I don't expect we'll see another DVC resort with rooms the size of OKW- they'll likely use the other onsite resorts as the model for size and layout.

That will make for a cozy living room! ;)

While I don't think the suggestion is reasonable or feasible within the current DVC setup, lets discuss what if DVD did decide to go that way for a new resort. Since I know that it would take a larger unit and more expense to build and furnish a 1 BR sleep 6 which would probably have a bath and 3/4, how many more points would it be? Would people be willing to pay modestly less than a 2 BR but somewhat more than a regular 1 BR to get this type of a unit, at least 50% of the difference? I know of essentially no timeshares that has 2 beds in the Master so the more likely direction would be 2 beds in the LR. Maybe 2 pullouts or a pullout and a Murphy bed, would this be something people were willing to pay more for? You'd also be looking at a smaller Master BR and a smaller master bath and possibly losing the shower OR the whirlpool in the master bath. Would those that want a 1 BR but only need the "smaller" 1 BR, be willing to pay more points since it's extremely unlikely they'd have both unit sizes? I also think it's unlikely they'd have nearly as many 2 BR or that the 2 BR units would be lockoff's. If you were exchanging with II, you'd still only be exchanging for 4 using those units under their current rules. These are the type of compromises that would be involved in having this type of unit option.

So to rephrase. Are people willing to pay some more points, have less room in the master area, have 2 beds in the LR and have slightly higher dues for the entire resort to have this option?

There is no doubt in my mind that DVC could do this and make it work. Just realize that they are only going to do so if they think they can make a profit by selling more points at a higher cost. I'd venture to guess that a 240 points Adventure season and 320 points Magic Season. Is it worth it to those interested for that level of points compared to the current options? If it is, maybe those interested should make a push for DVC to do this. People should realize also that a large number of 2 BR units in the rest of the timeshare world are only sleep 6, many with 2 twin beds in the second BR.

Yuck  I would be trying to aleviate (sp?) anyone sleeping in the living room. I said you could take my sleeper sofa;) I think I would pay 50% diff and I still wouldn't use my living room for sleeping. It would be nice for my daughter (she's 4 now) to be able to have her own bed. I know, I know, get a two bdrm.....I still can't see THAT many pts just for 3 of us.

has anyone ever heard of the term "aerobed"

LOL hehehe

What about a day bed or murphy bed in the BR at the expense of some of the space from the LR, BR and Bath. Or a pull out love seat in the BR, much like many of the studios now? I do think that what comes closest to what you want is the studio at OKW and second choice the other studios with the pull out full.

What about a different direction. What about an expanded studio with a more functional minikitchen and more space with 2 beds (one way or another) but without a Jacuzzi and big bath? Something more along the lines of a true efficency for maybe 75% the points of a 1 BR.

That's a good idea!

My actual thought was using the 2nd BR of the 2BR unit & offering that as a the 1BR. (Oh boy, will I get blasted now for that idea!!LOL) What, no jacuzzi? Just a regular tub & shower for eveyone to share - how awful!!!

I fully understand that Disney is not going to change what they have already done. I realize that it obviously works well for them & for DVC members. Personally, for my family, 2 queens in one room & a pull out in the LR would be just fine if that ever was a choice.

I am not from a "lower class", I am not trying to vacation in a "flop house" with "beds everywhere". For us 2 queens & a pullout would work well & we would be completely comfortable with it. Obviously, others would not be comfortable with it - & that's okay!!!

So what you're saying is attach a studio to a kitchen/living area? No jacuzzi or master bedroom?

I'd rather keep the 1bedroom the way it is - with the exception of the pull out couch and love seat combo. At OKW (the only resort I've stayed at) they could replace the pull out and love seat with two day beds - or one of those units - I don't know what they're actually called - that has a single bed, then another single bed that sticks partway under a big corner table (is that a corner group?) It wouldn't increase the sleeping capacity, but it would be more comfortable to sleep on - and wouldn't substantially alter the original represented arrangements - it would just be a different "type" of couch.

I'd love a daybed in the masterbedroom. But there are only 3 in my family, it wouldn't work to well w/ families w/ 2 kids etc. We are loyal to the BWV's one bedroom so it looks like DH may very well end up on the aerobed on the floor. ;) ;)

Chuck S - yes, that is what I thought. Attach the studio to the living area.
