Would you work as a Census Worker?

Probably not. I live close enough to both DC and Baltimore that I'd be afraid they'd send me door-to-door in a crack neighborhood or something.

If I could be guaranteed an office job, I'd totally do it if I was unemployed/underemployed.

Too many Hispanics in my neighborhood and I don't speak any Spanish. So, no.

Nope, I don't open the door to strangers and I won't knock on a stranger's door.

DH is going to apply. He's been out of work for almost 2 years. He needs to find something to do for his mental health.

Today was my last day delivering censuses/verifying addresses, so obviously I'd say, "yes". I do have to say that EVERYONE who answered a door was VERY nice to me, and if they chose not to answer, no big deal. As long as I could verify the address, I just left it in a hangar bag on the door. I do have to say that if I lived in the city, I might not be so sure of it. The only shame is that it's so short term, I trained for four days, worked for eight, and now I'm done. Hopefully, I'll get called back when it's time to check on those that aren't returned.

Nice change from unemployment;).

I work for the school district and my hours were just cut. I'm taking the census test today to see if I can work for them. I need money for my Disney fix! Oh, and bills, too, I guess!:lmao:

Yes, I worked for the Census while I was in college and made good money. I hated going door to door, but for the most part everyone was nice. There was only one area that I had to go into that made me a little nervous. I think they were pretty careful about who they selected to go into the really bad neighborhoods.

I wouldn't do it. I spoke with a person hiring door knockers, not bad pay $22.75 an hour but too many crazies out there.

I believe they only go to the doors of the people who do not return the paperwork. In Atlanta there are so many apartments with WAY too many people in there and the very first question asks how many people live in your home.

No WAY they're answering that paperwork.

The only thing you are required to answer (by law) is how many people live in your residence.

Don't open the door. Talk through it. This is what I did last time. I live in a secure building (but somebody let the Census Taker in ;)), so no security chain on the apartment door. He showed ID through the peephole, and, yes, allowed me to yell answers through the door :rotfl2:

DH & I did it last year and we are both doing it again this year; neither one of us are employed. The pay is good, in our area $17.50 an hour and I think it was 50 cents a mile.

When I worked last year, everybody that I talked to was wonderful. Some people asked if I was reassessing their house and were happy when I told them "no, I work for the Census Bureau".

To all those people that don't want to answer your door, all you have to do is return your completed census form. It will do two things, you won't have anybody come to your home and you will save the government money because they won't have to sent people to your door -- over and over again.

Yes. I did it last year and I am doing it again this year. No bad experiences. The pay is decent and they pay good mileage.
I just got to ask because I am ignorant about these things? I have always understood the Census to be once every 10 years???

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

DH & I were hired last year to do address verifications. This was preparation work for sending out the census forms, which are scheduled to be mailed next week.
