We plaln to go to WDW when hubby comes home for vacation in June. He is in Afghanistan. Would it be "uncool" for him to wear a shirt like this?

soldierShirt.jpg

oh. it would come from zazzle.com have any of you ordered shirts from there?

I don't see a problem with it. If he likes it, he should wear it! I would personally smile if I saw someone wearing that shirt.

Personally, if I was a CM and saw someone wearing that shirt- I would do whatever over and above.. NO, I don't think it's offensive and I would for sure smile at your husband and perhaps salute him.

I don't think that it is offensive and I am in the Army. I do not think that it is a good idea to advertise our profession or that we are serving in a war. But personally when I came home from the deployment and went on vacation I really wanted to but the army out of my mind and enjoy myself, but other then the fact that the shirt has a cop on it I think it is cute. My Army husband would not wear it he is an infantry men, or he was, he retired last year. i hope you DH makes it home safe.

I don't find it offense. In this artwork though, Mickey is a policeman not a soldier. I know I've seen some designs with soldiers on them on the DISign board.

Don't get me wrong. I like the shirt; and if your dh does, then by all means he should wear it. Mickey just isn't a soldier in it.

Thanks to your dh (and you too, BTW for your service and sacrifice. Will he try to do the flag ceremony in the MK while on your trip?

Yes, we've ordered shirts from there.

They came out great.

I seem to remember the adults shirts ran a little big.
Perhaps someone else on here knows.

I do see that they have other shirts to choose from there, not just that one of course. No i didn't realize it was a cop. That goes to show you how much I know about policemen  I just wanted to get your opinion on if it is ok to wear or not. With SOOOO many people fighting in the war now, I didn't know if it was something you see worn at WDW at all or not. I don't think it is any different than wearing an army veteran shirt or when he was in Iraq before, the wifes group sold tshirt that had the unit number and stuff on that we wore.

Sadly around here it is not looked apon as anything special to be fighting in the war. I think people could care less (and we are no where near a military base) although when he was in Iraq before, he came to the hospital the minute he got home and was still in his uniform because our son was in the hospital for a week. We stopped at a resturant that night and the manager gave us a free meal because he was in his uniform. I think it would make him feel good if people actually noticed or cared that he served...not just to get something special for it.

I think the shirt would be very cool for him to wear. And tell him thanks for keeping us safe!! BUT - if he wears it, he might want to be prepared for some idiot to make some stupid anti-war/military comment. 99.9 percent of the people there would most likely want to thank him, but there is always one idiot who has to make a fool of himself/herself.

For example, a co-worker of mine was being sent to Iraq, so we held a cookout at work to raise $ to help her family while she is away. Instead of charging a set amount, we just asked for donations. A doctor that works in our building came out and asked what the donations were for, we told him and he said "oh, I don't support the war", and proceeded to pass by the donations container and help himself to a couple hot dogs, chips and a drink. Like the moron thought we were going to purchase a weapon of mass destruction with the money in our donation can instead of actually giving it to the Soldier's little girls  . Sorry to get off topic, but this is the kind of idiot I am talking about.

Maybe I'm a bit mouthy but I sooooo would not have let that slide... he left himself wide open for a comeback such as:

"What are you doing? I don't support idiocy so I'm gonna need that stuff in your hands back."

:rotfl:

My dh and I are both military . DH would probably wear the shirt but I do agree maybe you should find a better design, go to the DISign board and I'm sure the lovely ladies over there can help you come up with a design you could create yourself.
Definitly be warned though that for all the people who support military there is always one in the crowd who will have something nasty or political to say to DH, wearing that shirt could mean you could attract those rude people. I had to stop at a convinence store on my way home from work one day in uniform and practically got attacked by a man screaming at me about the war.
I'm sure you know what OPSEC is but I dont think it applies to disney. Wearing the shirt in no different then wearing a regular military PT shirt.
I'm glad your DH is coming home safe! Will you be staying at shades of green??? We'll be there in may!

I don't understand why Mickey has such a strange expression on his face, almost a scowl. To me it looks like the shirt could be saying several things, depending on how you want to interpret it, it could be saying some pretty negative things, too.

Check out this thread. We are not a military family and have no personal experience with it. It sounds great though. I have also heard that you can try to call a couple of weeks before your departure to get on the schdule, but again I do not know how true that is.

I would never be offended if your DH or any other soldier wore a shirt like the one your showed. I would be honored to shake his hand and thank him personally for your family's service and sacrifice.

The Flag ceremony is very moving. I got the opportunity to watch it and I cannot tell you the impact it had on me. It was apparent that the service man who participated was very much a part of the service, it was wonderful to watch him and to watch his family as they watched him participate.

I think the shirt is cute..and if he wants to wear it, I don't think it's an issue at all. I'd leave it up to him.
I just wanted to say Thank you for your sacrafice and Thank you to your husband for his service to our country.:thumbsup2

Heartfelt thanks to you and your DH for the jobs you do. Hope they all get to come home soon.
My vote: wear the shirt.
