would you wear this shirt?

I would hope that he would get only positive responses if he wore it, but like others have said, I would worry a bit that an idiot or two would say something negative to him about the war...and he sure doesn't need that on vacation. Whatever your family is comfortable with. Again, I find it wonderful and would hope others would too, but you just never know...

I like it and I wouldnt find it offensive at all.

My nephew just returned from Iraq and he took his "girls", my niece and their 3 children to the World. My niece's Mom (my sis), our mother and my dh also joined them. I made shirts for the whole family, mainly using others designs. We only got positive remarks.

if you go to the Creative Design thread I am sure someone there will design something personal for you.
My nephew wore two of the shirts I made him. The one with the sawblade and the stitch one.
He participated in the flag raising ceremony. I cried from the moment he walked up to the flag until the end of the ceremony. It was so moving.:cloud9:

I don't understand why Mickey has such a strange expression on his face, almost a scowl.
There was something that bothered me about that Mickey (besides that he is dressed as a policeman). You picked up on what it is - the expression on his face is a scowl. The message says one thing and his face says another.

I think the designs posted by chaoscent are much better.

I don't understand why Mickey has such a strange expression on his face, almost a scowl. To me it looks like the shirt could be saying several things, depending on how you want to interpret it, it could be saying some pretty negative things, too.

How about it just saying that a proud American is home from that miserable ****hole and is just home enjoying some of what he is fighting for. Can it just be left at that !?!?

When I was looking through Chaos' photobucket, I saw this and thought you might like it. She did a wonderful job designing it for someone else, but it suits your situation too...

I didn't do this shirt, I am not that talented. I forget who did? it may have been Pat? Anyway, I could modify it and say something else? :confused3

Hmm- and I didn't see a scowl on his face, I saw a serious military member versus a goofy Mickey ;) Of course, perhaps he's scowling because he had to get out of bed at 0430 to go run 3 miles and he wants to go back to bed!

Hi - I'm Scottish so I hope you don't mind me commenting here. :flower3: I thought you might appreciate the perspective of a "foreigner". ;)

I don't find anything at all offensive about anyone wearing a "Proud to be an American" statement on their shirt. I also do not consider anything stating that someone is serving or retired military personnel offensive. :hippie:

And no, I am not biased - none of my immediate family are military personnel.

Since the conflict in Iraq began, we have been in the USA many times and have been at shows where they have asked military personnel to stand and be recognised (mainly at Sea World) and we have always joined in the applause for the people who have dedicated their lives to serving their country. :) We have also been in the USA over the 4th of July and always have enjoyed witnessing the patriotic comradeship of the citizens of the US.

I must also admit, I like your National Anthem so much better than the British one. I am even known to sing along. :rolleyes1

its not offensive...but dont get offended if he choses to not wear it...my husband is in the military..we live an hour from base..he hesitates to go in anywhere in his uniform because of the thanks he gets..he wants to get a gallon of milk and get home..its not that he doest appreciate the thanks its just hes on his way home.. when we go back to disney this sept he wouldnt wear anything like this because although he appreciates the thanks hes there for his kids..he wounldnt want his family time interupted..you know what i mean

I'm so glad you posted these...we literally just got back from dropping off my DB at the base to go to Iraq! :sad1: We are planning a trip for a few weeks after he gets back and I would love to get him a couple of these! Thanks!:goodvibes

Personally, if I saw someone wearing this shirt or one similar he or she would be due a big handshake from our family. While I don't like war, who does?, I definately support those who make the sacrafice to serve. Have fun on your vacation, I'm sure it is well deserved.:goodvibes

I hope no one at Disney would be too rude even if they didn't like the shirt. I will surely ask him what he thinks about wearing it before I buy it for him...whatever design I get. It seems like a lot of people in the military here don't think they would wear it so we shall see what he thinks. I used to wear a shirt that says I am a nurse on it so this is no different in my opinion but for guys it might be. Anyway, thanks for the input!

I'm not in the military or have any ties to anyone in it. I am so thankful for those who do put theirs lives on the line for the rest of us. I love the shirt!

chaoscent:

Your graphics are so great! Wish I would have had something like these for my brother and his family when they went in January!

The thing I seemed to have picked up from reading these boards is, when it comes to Disney, "advertising" yourself is a good thing. Many stories of people being pulled out for something special, just little things, because they were wearing the newlywed ears or a t-shirt with something different on it or a birthday button.

So from that perspective, I'd say the t-shirt is totally appropriate.

If you are going to Disney for multiple days, maybe just one t-shirt, wearing it one day early on, just to see what happens. If it is a "bust" or he just wants to be incognito then he doesn't need to wear it again. I really hope that the opposite is true, that the reaction he gets is so positive that he'll be washing the shirt out in the shower every night ;) and wearing it the whole trip.

for some other designs. I didn't make most of them, others did.
take care, Penny:hippie:

Hey chaoscent! A few questions...how do I go about ordering these shirts? We aren't leaving until Aug 30 so I have plenty of time and we won't know until probably the beginning of summer if DB and his girlfriend are going. He'll be in Iraq until Aug 10. Also, what happened to the I'm back from Iraq picture? That was one of the shirts I was thinking about! Thanks! :thumbsup2
