Would you wear costumes?

We are gearing up for our first time ever at Disneyland. My 6 year old has watched the video and we have been to the website, it seems like a lot of the little girls have on disney princess' costumes. Has anyone done this? They don't look really comfortable and I am afraid she would ruin it, but if it would make the trip more 'magical' for her I would probably cave. Just hoping to hear others experiences..

When it is not 100 degrees out my kids wear costumes (even the boys!0. They love it! I do bring a change of clothes for dd in case she gets uncomfortable though. As far as ruining the costume I don't really worry about that. The costumes are for her to enjoy. I don't buy them at Disney though as I feel that they are itchy and cost alot more. If they were nicer I would buy them there though. We buy our costumes usually at Target. They are really pretty and we think they are actually nicer than the ones at WDW. I say let her wear the costume. She is only young once. Good luck!princess:

Thanks for responding so quickly, we are going May 5-11 so hopefully it won't be too warm, I have found some online that have shorter skirts with tank top type tops. Any suggestions in picking out the costume. I would assume longer skirts might be dangerous on the rides.

The only time DD6 wore a costume was when we went to a princess lunch at Epcot. She's got sensitive skin and the princess dresses are too itchy for her. She ALWAYS MUST wear a tiara, though. She gets extra attention from the cast members who all call her "princess." If your daughter can handle wearing the dress for a long time at home she'll probably love wearing it around the park.

The longer skirts weren't really an issue. I would however make sure you brng safety pins because sometimes you have to pin them so they fit a little better. I do also usually put an undershirt or tank top on underneath during the day so it doesn't itch. The ones we got at Target aren't itchy though. There is an ebay store that sells nice dresses that are soft. I think it's called my dress up trunk. I'll look and see if I can find it for you.

Thanks! any other suggestions for newbies for the first time at Disneyland? We have planned a day at seaworld, a day at california adventure, a day at universal studios, a day at the San Diego Zoo and 1 1/2 days at Disney... I bought the passporter so have some ideas of food places and tips...

My children have never worn costumes to Disneyland, but we will be going to WDW this year and I am going to make the suggestion to them. I think the kids look so cute dressed up and it makes them easier to spot.

Just a couple ideas:

1. If you will be travelling with another adult, have them hold a spot for you (for parades, fireworks, Fantasmic, etc.) and take that 45 minutes before the show to do the rides nearby. We were able to walk on to Pirates, the Haunted House, Winnie the Pooh and Splash Mountain with no wait all before Fantasmic. It was great.

2. Do Disneyland on your first day. The crowds will be worst here. Leave CA Disney for a later day as the park is more spread out and seems less crowded (even if it isn't).

3. ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney is a blast for older kids (climbing wall and games). We love to eat dinner there and let the older kids play while we rest our feet.

4. If you are not from Southern California, make sure to spend some time at the beach, not only to swim, but many have great jogging trails, shopping promenades and even rides.

5. There is a store called "Libby Lu" in Downtown Disney where little girls can get their hair and makeup done. If your daughter likes makeup (as mine does), she will love it.

Have a wonderful trip!

I just wanted to recommend having your daughter wear tennis shoes or other comfortable shoes not the cute ones that match the dresses for walking in the park. My little one always tries to sneak on her matching shoes, so I just make sure to bring her tennies along for when her feet get tired or sore.

I agree 100%!!! I bought my daughter sneakers that look like Mary Janes. They were comfortable and she called them her princess ballerina shoes. Schetchers (sp?) makes them as well.

Would I let my daughter wear a princess dress to Disney? Not on your life. It is totally not my style.

I love seeing the little ones in costumes, they're so adorable. The princess costumes run about $100 for the entire get up (costume, shoes, wand, etc.) so buying outside of Disney may be a good alternative to save some money. We went to P&PP Feb 1st, and had our very own Captain Hook (DS4) & Princess Aurora (DN4) and they just loved it. We bought the Captain Hook costume as an impulse before the P&PP started and it was $48 in the POTC after ride shop, but DS loved it and was so adorable I caved too :rotfl: It's such a special time, I say go for it and take lots of pics, they'll be wonderful memories later :cutie:

Probably not a princess, but if DS wanted to wear a costume, I'd let him. But I'd probably make it for him, even though I'm NOT an accomplished "seamstress" by any means.

If you go to Seaworld, be sure to see the "Pets Rule!" show. It's not a "spectacular" show, but it's very much worth the time, especially with littler kiddoes! OH what am I saying, my happy and child-free brother and his wife got a membership to the place because of that show, and they go often (they live right there) JUST to see the Pets show! :)

For the Zoo, bring a hat and lots of sunscreen and LOTS of water, b/c if it's a hot day, walking around those paths can be brutal.

DD5 is a total princess, and wears her princess dresses at home every day. So taking them with us was a no-brainer! ;) I got her Cinderella dress in my sig and avatar at mydressuptrunk.com for about $20. Their dresses are light, pretty, and SOFT - no itchies. We brought 3 different dresses, and she wore them for 3 entire days. No problems at all, though this was January. We also got mary jane sneakers and and "bedazzled" them...! :lmao: princess:
