Would you want to know if your 13 or 14 y.o. DD was giving her underwear to boys?

Believe me, we have been over this too many times to count. The girl "I think" gave them to him is a sister of one of his friends. They are only in the neighborhood on the weekend (divorced parents/shared custody deal.) She has been after my son forever, and she is a cute little thing! But he just isn't interested. Maybe this was her way of getting his attention? I don't know. The weird part of it is, this neighborhood is 90% boys! There are hardly any girls around here! That's why I think the thong came from his friend's sister. But who knows, maybe they were given to him at school!

I just didn't think I'd be having to deal with something like this at this age!

Was I ever wrong!

If that happened to my 15 year old son I think I would die laughing. But then again, you'd have to know my son. I don't think he'll be dating until he's about 40!

But who knows, maybe they were given to him at school!
This is what I would want to get to the bottom of. The situation that brought this about. If he got them at school, it is likely a joking, flirting thing. If he got them at a party or something (non adult oriented situation), the situation could have been much more involved.
I just didn't think I'd be having to deal with something like this at this age!
I hear you there, I think middle school is worse than the high school nowadays (in some ways)...

First of all let me just say that at 14 my daughter won't be wearing any clothing that would require a thong!! If she tried I would throw them out!!!LOL Wow these kids are really starting these things young! Oh how I wish my daughter would stay 6yo forever!!!

To answer your question. Yes I would want to know if my daughter did this.

My little sister is 12yo and she thankfully likes to dress like a boy!!! My mother thinks she is so lucky!! All the other parents in the neighborhood have girls that are 13 going on 20!! My mother really appreciates my sisters baggy pants!!LOL

Yikes!

I saw an episode of Oprah recently that was enough to make your hair stand on end. Apparently, a whole lot of 13-year-old girls are giving away a lot more than thongs these days.

I heard about that episode! Yikes!:earseek:

I have a 14 (almost 15) year old daughter and if I found out she gave away ANY piece of underwear to a boy, she'd be grounded until Kingdom Come. And if I'm the one buying the underwear, it's not thongs - not only because of the sexiness factor, but I hate to think of my baby walking around all day with a wedgie.;)

BTW Blondie, I think you handled the situation well. What else could you do? And you must have been very relieved to know HE wasn't wearing it.;)

After reading through these posts, I'm a little surprised at the indignation at many of them. I am a mother of a 14 y.o DS and a 15 y.o. DD (who wears thongs, by the way).

My first question is are you sure that they were given to your DS? I know sometimes boys (or kids in general) may do things on a dare, or by curiosity, or whatever. He may have been embarassed and just said someone gave them to him.

Things have changed from when we were young, that's for sure. Wearing thongs, however, does not make someone promiscuous or slutty or whatever. My DD is a very nice young lady who dresses appropriately, but stylishly. She doesn't wear jeans that allow the thong to show, however, she likes to wear them. I didn't buy them for her but they did show up in the laundry and when I questioned her, she told me she bought them for herself at the mall. Not a big deal to me. A little surprising, but not a big enough deal to make a battle out of it. She is a young woman and has every right to wear whatever underwear she chooses as long as it's not showing;)

And yes, I would want to know if she were giving her underwear away, but I'd also want to know why my son was accepting it.

Should we surprised that 14 year old girls are handing out thongs (whether to show off, be popular, to get attention, whatever) when their role models are Britney Spears, Christina Aquilera or whomever else is the flavor of the month?

And geez, the boys can emulate their favorite "players" and collect thongs. ;)

thought you might like to know that there are health risks involved with wearing thongs on a regular basis..

Wearing them is one thing, giving them away is another.

The type that were mentioned weren't the kind meant to be hidden.

Don't they realize being young is a good thing?

AMEN!

I was (was being the keyword :teeth: ) a skinny thing at that age and the cool underwear for us was a simple bikini in bright colors. I don't even think thongs were for sale then. Oh and the Monday-Sunday underwear....LOL!

You know I can see where the person who mentioned the dare could be right on as well. Girls can be silly at that age and I can honestly see someone DARING someone to give those underwear to your son, especially if he is considered a "hottie" in his school. Of course he would be embarrassed by it but probably thought it was cool to. I think you handled it great Blondie. Hes at the age where curiosity is kicking into overdrive.

Parents say kid's thong is just plain wrong
Clothier selling skimpy skivvies for girls 10 and older

Calling it the "modern-day version of Underoos," a national clothing company is selling thong underwear in children's sizes - with the words "eye candy" and "wink wink" printed on the front.

Abercrombie & Fitch

The rearless underwear comes in sizes for girls ages 10 to 16. The smallest size - a medium - appears small enough to fit an even younger girl.

Quotable

It's cute and fun and sweet.

- Hampton Carney,
spokesman for the Abercrombie & Fitch

It's Frederick's of Hollywood for preteens and teenagers.

- Lisa Maxwell,
parent

It's not appropriate for a 7-year-old, but it is appropriate for a 10-year-old. Once you get about 10, you start to care about your underwear, and you start to care about your
clothes.

- Hampton Carney,
company spokesman

Abercrombie & Fitch, the same retailer that enraged parents last year with a summer catalog of teenage-looking models groping each other and in the nude, now offers several varieties of thongs at its Abercrombie stores, the division of the company for children 7 to 14 years old.

"It's cute and fun and sweet," said Hampton Carney, spokesman for the company based in New Albany, Ohio.

But some parents are far from tickled. In fact, they're outraged.

Around age 15, a boy had some of my undies. Mickey Mouse. He saw em, asked for em and I gave em. Clean, of course. I didn't care.

Not that it's any of your business, but she doesn't wear them on a regular basis. And I am assuming those same health risks apply to adults who wear them as well, right?

 Can you post what those are?

Not that I wear them or anything...

I don't see a 10 year old worrying about panty lines so what is the point of a thong at that age? Cute, fun, & sweet? For who? I was still playing with BARBIES at 10 (and older). I can't imagine my daughter wearing a thong in just another 3 1/2 years!

I agree with both of these statements. I was just trying to make the point that wearing thongs in and of itself doesn't make a girl promiscuous or whatever. Some people who posted just seemed so appalled by the whole concept.

*jumps out in a thong and starts dancing like Chris Pontius (AKA partyboy) from the movie ******** woooooooo!!!!!!!! Liberation for men!!!!!! woooooooo!!!!!!!!

ok, not really, but I think thongs are neat in their own way, just like some men prefer boxers over briefs!

Probably about the same. Whether you love them or hate them, thongs are causing problems though. Doctors, especially OB-GYNs, tell us their offices are now crowded with patients suffering from nasty v and u tract infections.

Thongs can actually even sometimes give you a risk factor for infertility because if you have bacterial infections for a long period of time, what we've found is bacterial v@#$% can ascend up into the u and the tubes and cause scarring and blockage.
