Would you use a 30 year old crib?

No,

NO WAY...

NO HOW...

(been there done that with my inlaws... From experience here... NO, I would not.. We even had to pack up my DS high-chair and haul it to their house for every visit, at least once a week, because MIL wanted us to use the little, rickety, unsafe unacceptable thing that she had pulled out of their attic or basement... (which even began collapsing on DS) She decided to 'fall on knives' and be mortally wounded.... as controlling self-absorbed MIL's can be... but I had to simply but firmly hold my ground.)

No freakin' way.

I don't care if it is 'supposedly' safe...
No way to tell with something that old.. Period... No guarantee.
Even if I 'thought' that the crib was beautiful and safe...
NO WAY to know with something that 1. was manufactured before todays knowledge and standards.. 2. is that old and used

Also, very simply put.... it is my child, I have my own ideas and visions of my nursury, and of what features that my child may want or need.

It is MY child.
It is MY turn.
It is MY choice.

If I want a certain style of pretty white feminine crib for my little girl... but Grandma has some horrid wooden thing from the 60's or 70's.... My wishes trump her controlling and selfish feelings. I make NO apologies for this. Flame away... But, it is my turn now... 'I' am the mama.

My sons slept in the "family" crib. My mother is 92 years old, and it was her crib! It is iron and had been painted so many times (my Dad always said he knew my Mom was pregnant - 8 babies! - when he'd see her repainting the crib!) My older DS is 29 and when we decided to use this crib for our children, we had it sand-blasted and then we repainted it. Even 30 years ago, I believe there was non-leaded paint available. That said, I know the slats are more than 2 1/2 inches apart, so my grandchildren will not be using this crib. Last I heard, my sister has it stored away. My 26 year-old was the last to use it.
