Would you upgrade in this situation?

We've always done Mods, but since there is only 5 of us going we've repriced our trip and found that for the same dates, days of tickets and meal plan we could upgrade from 2 POR/RR's to 1 room at either Boardwalk, Poly or Yacht Club w/ the three Deluxe resorts being anywhere from $200 - $1000 less.

The downside I see is only 1 room/1 bathroom for 5 people and only 3 bed versus 4. I'm tempted, especially for the one that's $1000 less but I'm not sure we wouldn't all wind up ready to strangle each other by the end of 9 days.

Have you checked into renting points from http://www.dvcrequest.com/
What are your dates?
You might be able to rent 2 studios which would give you extra beds and an extra bathroom.
I don't think I could stay in 1 room with 5 people for 9 days.

I personally would keep the 2 rooms. More room to spread out, 2 bathrooms, better bed situation.

I think it depends on the age of your party. If you have smaller children I'd do the Poly. If you have teens I'd stick with the two rooms.

How old are your children? There are five of us as well, but our girls are still young--just 3, 5, and 8, so I don't think we'd have a problem sharing one room, one bathroom for that length of time. I'm sure that once they're teenagers, we'll feel differently, especially about the extra bathroom!

We originally booked one room at POR but ended up switching to a family suite at AOA. I figured that the extra room would be worth the cost. If I could save money by booking a deluxe, it'd be hard not to!

Unless 3 of the people are small and quiet, I'd definitely go for 2 rooms (and, thus, 2 bathrooms, 4 sinks, 2 mini-frigs (perhaps!), 4 beds, sound proofing at night (can put the early risers and/or snorers in one room), etc... If you were staying 2 or so nights, I'd do deluxe, but not for 9. Just my opinion.

Same, but would we do the Yacht club. Great access to restaurants & it's a short walk to EPCOT. :)

We're a family of 5.

We stay at the Deluxes, all in one room, and it works out incredibly well. We don't spend tons of time in the room itself, though we get lots of use from the resort. (Can you say "Storm Along Bay"??? :) )

We did 2 trips to the Poly-- the monorail access is incredible. You're a very short ride from the MK, and you can walk to the TTC for the Epcot monorail.

Last year, we shifted gears and tried the Beach Club, and have a new favorite! It's steps away from Epcot, and a lovely boat ride from DHS. And we saved a few hundred dollars over the Poly!

For us, it would be a no brainer... a deluxe resort AND a savings of $1000 would win out over more room for sleeping. The one bathroom thing isn't an issue; I always have at least a child or two willing to relax in bed while someone else showers.

What are the ages in your party?

With 5 adults, I would do separate rooms. With a nuclear family of 5 I would do the deluxe. If more than one family, like if ILs are coming, I would do 2 rooms.

I agree with other posters - it depends on the ages of your party. If I were going with my family, I'd stay in one room. But if it's five adults (even if a few are teenage "Disney adults"), I'd stick with two rooms. I can't imagine sharing a room and a single bathroom for nine days with four other adults.

We had a family of 8 in two rooms at POR. 4 in each room. POR rooms are smaller than deluxe rooms and we were fine with 4 adults (well, 3 adults and 1 16 year old!). You just have to stagger a bit in the morning. For example, my mom takes the longest to get ready so she got up first, then when she was finished she woke me up for my turn in the shower. So the girls doing makeup or drying their hair went first and by the time they were finished, my mom's bf was already done and ready to go. So if you have at least 1 child, I am sure you could do the same in a larger deluxe room.

I have stayed at all levels and enjoyed all of them, but I think a deluxe is a fun experience. Also, I stayed at BWI with my bf and his mom the week after Christmas. His mom asked them if we could have a larger room since we had 3 adults. They gave us a corner, first floor room. It was HUGE. I could have done a dance routine in the center of it.

Between Poly, YC or BWI (I have visited all three), if you like all 3 themes just as well, I would lean towards YC. It is the closest to Epcot and has a great pool and ameneties. I loved BWI (their courtyard and hot tub placement is the best at WDW IMO), but did not find the pool or food options to be as simple with no real QS option. Yes you can go to the boardwalk, but I would feel the need to look more presentable there than in the cafeteria ;)

Thanks everyone! We'll have our 17 yo dd; 15 yo ds and 10 yo ds. We're going to discuss it this evening and see how everyone feels. DD had originally requested both Nemo and the Royal Rooms -- but after looking at the Disboards I decided to run the numbers w/ our PIN for some of the deluxe resorts. DH says to leave it as is giving everyone space and youngest ds's only comment was, "Do the other places have as cool of pool slides as POR/POFQ?" So this should make for interesting dinner conversation :)

Oh, if the pool is important, scroll down to post #2 here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3138290

Yes, that's right-- a pool so big it has its own MAP!

Your kids are just a little older than mine; I vote for the Beach Club.

WOW! I'm not sure I can get Beach Club -- but it looks like the pool is w/ Yacht Club too. Is that correct?

Yes. The two resorts are joined at the middle, where the restaurants and SAB are.

So you can get Stormalong Bay, walk to Epcot, take the boat to DHS (the walk was long for us in August, maybe not when the whether is more temperate)... AND save $1000???? For us, the tradeoff of of a bit less room would be a non issue.

The only thing that would make me hesitate is this: teenage boys can be skittish about sharing a bed. Would it be an issue for your sons? If not, then I would be calling the Yacht Club right now.
