Would you travel to Mars if you had the opportunity to?

Heck no!! I don't even like mission space! No way would they get me to do it willingly!

I saw something recently about an open invitation for a one-way trip to Mars, and they got soemthing like 77,000 entries worldwide from people interested. It was quite amazing to hear that high a number.

I'd almost like to do a documentary on a cross-section of those people to find out why.

Anyway, regarding the actual question, I think there has to be a lot of caveats to this, would it be the first explorers to set foot on Mars, or would there be an existing base.......or would it be a thriving small town/city (with its own McDonalds and Starbucks...j/k....;))

:rotfl:

I will settle for GRAVITY in space.;)

No Mission space made me sick at Epcot so no way :rotfl2:

I've been a few times. Nice little town. Ohh you mean the planet, not the little town north of Pittsburgh!?

I had a similar conversation with my dad when I was young.

I was saying I would not go to the moon even if I qualified. It was just too risky for me.(It still is).

My dad said he would go even he knew for sure that he would die for it. He said it would be awesome to end life in such a spectacular way and to experience something no one else could experience.

I was totally shocked because my dad was one of the least thrill-seeking person I know. But I guess there is a dream for everyone.

Yes I would but not with current conventional technology. I think it will take 6 months to get there and 6 months back, unless they will be using a new propulsion system that we do not know about yet. If it was a week there and a week back, absolutely. But being confined in a tiny ship for a year, I couldn't do it.

After seeing how small the Apollo moon capsules were I was highly shocked. On the movies they look so much bigger, but you are literally shoulder to shoulder with very very little room. Being cooped up in that thing for over a week would have been a challenge and I'm probably too claustrophobic. The men that went to the moon were very brave just to agree to be locked up in that thing for that long. Talk about nerves of steel. Those guys truly had the right stuff.

You say 25 years. Well I'm 31 now so I guess it depends on what I'm able to accomplish in the next 25 years before it's ready to go. If I feel satisfied that I've done and seen what I needed to here, I would certainly consider going, even if it was only a 1 way trip.

Going to space holds no interest to me personally because I get motion sickness too easily! Plus not a big fan of that kind of unknown. I am fascinated by the prospect of it though and would love to see pictures and hopefully learn about the journey from those who do go.

with everything what is going on in the world now i would love to live on the other planet
