background: I have been going to the same hair dresser for 13 yrs. I am loyal to only her and she opened her own salon 9 yrs ago. So I go every 6-8 weeks for color and or cut (used to be perms) and DD has only ever had her cut by this person. She lives close to me, we don't hang out together but she has asked me to at times. I always was leary of mixing business with pleasure. Plus her DH has his own business that is doing exceptional, they own 5 houses and had a 800,000 one built, pool and sports cars, trucks and such, 2 kids and they all just really have everything, pretty wealthy. She likes to go out and drink and stuff, its just not my thing so I always declined.

Anyway I always have to book 2 appts ahead of time, she is that busy. Last visit she asked me to change my appt from Sat tomorrow to today so she could leave early Sat. NP I had today off :cool1: appt was for me and DD. I always write mine in my appt book right there, so I did, 2:45. So today we hang out at home waiting for the appt, call before because she seems to be behind alot and I HATE waiting. So I call no answer, I figure she is busy and go. Get there and its CLOSED, no cars! :furious: So I go home and call her house (she gave me the number before and I was very confused) so I get her and I said "am I crazy lol, I thought I had an appt today" she said "ya at 1:45" I said I have 2:45 on my appt book and I waited here all day to go. She said I have to be home at 3:00, it was at 1:45. Now out appts are ALWAYS 2 1/2 -3 hrs. She takes forever to cut and is a perfectionist. Well I said, we are both in need so when should I call you to schedule? Monday? She said no, I will be there tomorrow, call me and I will fit you in at some point.

I am pissed that she didn't call me, I could have been there in 7 mins! :furious: She knows where I live and she knows I never blow off appts, EVER! She takes my tel# every appt, why didn't she use it? :furious:

My DD (13) was getting highlites and was so bummed today! Not fair! I have been loyal for 13 yrs and I don't think she should of did that to me. Am I way off??

While I can see why this would piss you off, she clearly made a mistake. I'm not sure I would do anything hasty like take my business elsewhere if this is the only dissatisfaction you have had.

I think she really should have called you, but if this is the only time she's screwed up I would let it go. Also, I would wait and see how accomodating she is when you go back.

I wouldn't be hasty... good hairdressers are hard to find. Mistakes happen, I tend to get scatter brained during the holidays...

I don't know why you mentioned her potential 'partying', unless you think it may be infringing on her professional life? :confused3

Yeah, I kinda don't get that either. She parties. So what?

I only mentioned that because that is the kind of things she invites me to and I don't really do the scene so I decline. I mentioned it too meaning we are close enough that she should of called me. No other reason.

I think she was probably delighted that you didn't show up, since that meant she could leave early. That's why she didn't call.

Since you will see her tomorrow I suggest you say something like "Wow, I can't believe we got our wires crossed like that yesterday...I wish you had called me. You know I've never missed an appointment in the 13 years I've been coming to you!"

That way, you get your point across, and it is a non-antagonistic way to remind her of your loyalty.

That's how I would handle it.

At my salon they ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS ALWAYS call my house the day before, holiday or not (like if my appt is TUES..I get the call on SAT).

Doesn't she call her clients the day before the appt.? :confused3

If for some mysterious reason my salon (that always calls me) had not called the typical day before my appt., then the DAY OF the appt., I would be calling first thing in the AM to jsut make sure we are all set for that day! :thumbsup2

I was getting my haircut about a week or so ago, the hairdresser in the booth next to mine was getting tense because her appt., was 15 minutes late(client) and still not there. She then went out to the front reception desk and called the client and left a message. Came back to her booth and said she will wait a total of 30 minutes before she decides the client must not be coming. She then started another client (who was early) and by the time I left the "late" client had never showed up....but I know these hairdressers where I go at least make an attempt to call, just to make sure you did not get stuck in traffic or whatever reason.

OP, from here on in, whether you already do this or not, I would ALWAYS get an appt card from HER with her signature stating the date and time of the appt....if she CANCELS and reschedules your appt (like she did here)...I would DEFINTELY suggest to her that SHE CALL YOUR HOME to re-remind you!!!

ETA: Having the appt card filled out by her, will certainly show you were right and she must have written down the time incorrectly ON HER CALENDAR/APPOINTMENT BOOK.

I really don't think this is the norm. I have never gotten a reminder call from a salon, from a doctor maybe but never a hair stylist.

Mine always calls the day before and so did the one before that.

I wouldn't make a big deal because I really don't want to piss off the person who handles my hair with scissors! :scared:

I've not ever got a call from a salon to remind me of an appointment. If someone didn't show, I wouldn't expect them to call, either. Obviously you expected differently, so your salon must be different.

But wow, that woman must really enjoy what she does if they own five houses, just had an almost million dollar home built, and she's still doing hair.

I always get a call from my Salon, my Spa appts., Nail appts., as well as my Physicians. It is the NORM where I live. And it is definitely a feature I totally appreciate. :thumbsup2

Perhaps I need to shell out more money for that feature but I really don't mind having to remember to show up my own self. :) I really don't think her not calling was a big deal.

Some of us are unwilling and unable to get 40 dollar + haircuts. Sorry. Us poo' folk will just have to be responsible little doobies and remember our appointments all by ourselves.
