Would you take a week's vacation....to spring clean your house?

DW owns a housecleaning business, but that doesn't mean OUR house ever gets cleaned. I joke that I'm going to hire one of her competitors to get the job done.

Maybe if I pay her $150 week she'll clean up. Or maybe if I got off my butt and helped some more it wouldn't get so messy.

(Actually, the house isn't that bad...not a pigsty, and not pristine either. "Lived in" is the proper terminology, I believe.

As for taking vacation days to clean the house, :rotfl2:.

I don't take a week off but I do traditionally take vacation the 2 days before Memorial Day weekend and I use that time to do my version of spring cleaning and whatever house projects have been building up. I empty and clean all the kitchen cabinets, clean all the windows, go through our closets and get rid of stuff we don't wear/use, wash all the curtains, steam clean the carpets and furniture etc. This is also when I rearrange the furniture and swap out the accessories. I usually have at least 1 room in need of wall or trim paint touching up. I do have a lot of vacation time and it can't be carried over.

Last year, DD12 figured out that I was off from work and stayed home from school with one of those convenient yet mysterious stomach aches that ended at 10am with a request for waffles. She got the waffles and the added bonus of helping me with all of the chores the rest of the day.

Only way was if I had 13 weeks vacation so it didn't interrupt the "one vacation week a month" dream I have .

<I know two people like this. (and bless her!). We have a little vacation home. It is cleaned everytime we leave...using average effort. However, both of these folks came to my house. One, within ten minutes, asked if she could vacuum. I was surprised but said, "sure!". She then proceeded to deep clean the entire house. Her daughter was mortified. The other person was there when we weren't and did the same thing...I'm talking cleaned the oven, rearranged the pantry shelves...everything that could have been done got done.>

Would you mind sending them over to my house when you're finished with them? That'd be grand.

I took 1 day off to clean & organize the garage.

Can I marry you!!!
OMG, you should see (or maybe NOT see) our garage right now!!!
DH is a bit of a hoarder... DS is a teenaged guy who doesn't really care...
So don't look at any areas that are 'theirs'!

Yes, I would take some time to 'spring clean'!
A whole weeks vacation? No....
But, I def. appreciate a clean and organized house.

Maybe her and her husband have a lot of vacation time, or do not like to travel, etc???

I wish I had enough vacation time to both clean and travel. Travel wins for me as there is only so much vacation time. I do a super deep clean twice per year but I have to recruit my family and waste a precious weekend doing it.

My mom used to clean that way. EVERYTHING was wiped down, furniture moved, etc. But, she was a stay at home mom, and didn't have to worry about an outside job.

And, no, I did not inherit her spring cleaning work ethic :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Yes I would! Even though I hate to spring clean, ugh pretty soon I'll need to start again, didn't i just do it?? But I love the smell of murphy's oil soap and it makes me happy when my house is clean. I have teenagers and they are now recruited to help clean. It goes so much faster when we all pitch in and do it together. We usually just do one room a day and spread it out over a couple of weeks. I do move the furniture away from the walls and wash the baseboards and walls but I don't move the furniture out of a room. I did this with my mom when I was a kid too so the tradition continues.

It's a lot of work if you do it right, taking down drapes and washing them, washing windows, yuck I really hate to think about it and wish I could pay someone to do it. But you know what they wouldn't do it good enough for me so I'm stuck doing it myself with my families help.

This woman could have probably retired years ago if she had her own cleaning business :D.

No, I would not take time off work like that for cleaning--maybe an hour or so to get ready for company but not a week. The only time we've cleaned like that is when we've moved...after all our stuff is loaded in a truck :D.

I would TOTALLY take a week's vacation to clean...I take a week's vacation and hire a cleaning lady to come in while I'm in Hawaii.

My old coworker did this sort of thing
They never ever went anywhere, so she would clean house, or sew or trim shrubs on her vacations

i wouldn't give up that "me" time for spring cleaning.

i dust and vacuum once a week and call that done
the house is then clean...

no I would not do that because as soon as I clean my kids make a mess of the house

No I would NOT EVER take a week off to clean- I would take a week to vacation, do things with the kids, hang out with friends,- but not to clean- there is to much living to be done to waste time on things like that. Cleaning gets fit in here and there, not taking days off to waste on that!

I took a day off before guests were arriving but I live in a small house. :)

I'm currently away from home and have been for a prolonged period of time. I checked in on DH last Saturday and asked what his plans for the day were. He said he was thinking of "doing a little housework". I said to him "good - start with the bathrooms and work your way out"! More likely what he meant was he intended to pick up the pile of newspapers that had accumulated beside his recliner. :lmao:I'll NEED to take a week of vacation just to get things back in order once I return.

Oh, Hell NO!!!! That's what sick days are for:rolleyes1
:thumbsup2

Yes! Next week is my spring break and that's what I'll be doing - cleaning, decluttering, and organizing.
