Would you spend $2000 on a pair of pants?

I think its all relative really. For some people, 300.00 for jeans sounds outrageous, and for others 300.00 is pocket change. :confused3

Definitely. I work with some really well off people, think housewives of Beverly hills or Atlanta.

I routinely travel up on 5th ave, around 50th street. Have any of you been to the stores there? Bergadoff goodmans, Louie Vutton? people are dropping bucket loads of money on luxury items. I ran into Bottega Veneta and the sales women showed me a $7,000 purse.

As my dad says all the time "If they make it, chances are some ones buying it"

Hahahahah!!!!!

No.

I try to buy jeans when I can get my favorite brand for less than $40. Even that much I hate spending. Heck, my engagement ring didn't cost that much and at least if the economy completely collapsed and we were trapped in a dystopian future, my ring might still be worth something. I bet those $2000 jeans don't even keep you warm.

I wouldn't pay that much for pants, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who make way more than I do that buy them. Dh and I were killing time in the airport in Paris a few days ago and walked by a Hermes store. I told dh that I would love a Hermes scarf, but wouldn't even bother looking at them because I would never pay that much money for a scarf. Dh finally told me "oh come on, we'll just look" so we went in the store and the scarves ranged anywhere from 400 euros to 2,000 euros (with an exchange rate of $1.35/1 euro). When we walked out dh commented that he had been curious to see how much money they would cost, since they were so expensive I didn't even want to look at them :rotfl2:.

That reminds me of a joke I heard when I was a kid.

"I wish I had enough money to buy an elephant"
"Why would you want to buy an elephant?"
"I don't, I just wish I had enough money to buy one":rotfl:

I think the same thing applies here. I wish I had enough money to buy a 3 thousand dollar pair of pants. I don't want the pants, but I wish I had enough money to buy them.

No I would not based on my current income/lifestyle. I usually shop at Loft, Gap, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor and my sister thinks I am beyond pretentious bc I shop at these places. I think she almost fell on the floor when I told her I bought underware that was $11 at Nordstroms (they are so comfy and worth it).
It is rare that I actaully even buy anything at full price at any of the clothing places I shop, I try and stock up on things when they have a sale, like last weekend the Gap had 30% off everything and the weekend before Loft also had 30% off everything, plus for every $50 you spent you got a $25 off $50 purchase coupon.

The ironic part is the the people that could afford them, like celebrities, don't need to cause they are give it to them for free!

I guess it depends on who was IN those pants. :)

Hermes gloves are known for lasting a lifetime. Just sayin'. ;)

Same here. I buy expensive socks and shoes because it's important to me and definitely worth it. Socks that I buy are around $6-20 and never come in packs, usually Nike or SmartWool. I think socks are incredibly important. I like having warm and soft wool socks in the winter and great athletic socks. And with shoes, I don't like getting shoes that just fall apart, are a pos and they need to look good.

I too, rarely buy things at full price. I think the only thing I don't is Nike Shox because the ones I want don't go on sale. I went to Abercrombie in January and they were having a HUGE sale, I've never seen a sale so good. Nearly everything was discounted, including the jeans, and anything discounted was an additional 50% off. So the jeans I would normally pay $68 for were $19. I bought 6 pairs... along with a lot of other things.

Exactly. If you have billions of dollars $2000 is nothing.

Even if I was so wealthy I never had to worry about money for myself or even my grandchildren, I admit it would be hard for me to spend that much on pants. Pants are something that can not fit based on how much weight you gain or lose so it wouldn't be worth it to me.

I don't even spend 150 bucks on pants lol. The positive fallout from that is it afford me a lot more trips to Disney:lmao:

I wouldn't doubt it. If they didn't I'd be making a fuss.

I would love a Hermes purse. I'd be MUCH more willing to buy an accessory piece that cost $2000 than a pair of pants.

Exactly. I remember one year the 76'ers played the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan went to Atlantic City and lost $100,000 bucks gambling. Every body was in an uproar. :confused3 I couldn't understand it. 100 Grand to MJ was probably the pocket change Nike threw at him. Oh and he still went out and scored 32 points against the sixers. LOL.

It's all relative. If you had grew up wealthy and your parents, friends and family all shopped at high end stores you would probably not think twice about dropping 1000 bucks on clothing. It's really about what you are accustomed to.

Without going into too much detail, my Father has a leather "suitcase." He had it before marriage and my parents have been married 50 years.

I don't know what it cost new, but it's still going strong and has an incredible patina of age. He used to travel often for work, so the case got a real workout.

All that to say, sometimes spending more than seems feasible on an important piece can save you money in the long run.

I just bought a new piece of luggage, on sale for less than $200. It broke on the first use. False economy, that sale, eh? :confused3

I can see spending a lot for quality but are the $2000 pants really so much better than say $200 pants? It seems wasteful.

Nope, thats my Disney trip!!!! As you see I value a vacation more, but there are people who probably value fashion more. For example, if my sister made big bucks I think she would easily spend that much on jeans. But right now she is only 18 and a fashion design major in college lol.
The most I will spend is between 30 and 40 bucks.

I agree. That much money on a pair of pants that probably won't fit me in a year is nuts. However a great purse or pair of shoes always fit ;)

Ummm....no, I wouldn't. But I'm not in a position to afford such luxuries.

My sister sent me a pic from a friend in culinary school who was visiting a restaurant. The pic was the wine menu and it featured a $35,000 bottle of champagne.

Gotta say--it really made the $200-$900 bottles listed above it seem like a blue light special in comparison.

But someone somewhere, I'm sure--will pay for it--just like they'll pay for the $200,000 Sam's Club Disney Wedding.
