Would you spend $200 to feel "safe"?

Would you spend $200(total for 5 people) more on a flight just to be on an airline that you "feel" is safer than the rest? The flights are almost the same just the airline is different.

Is it worth the peace of mind?

I love DELTA. Not sure sure about Airtran- heard they are old ValueJets which scares me. :earseek:

If it makes you feel better and it doesn't hurt your budget then I would go with the carrier you are most comfortable with. I would if I were in your shoes. :flower:

Myst

I have flown AirTran many times, the only problem that I have had with them was due to weather problems, not their fault.

I will never fly Delta again worst flight and service I have ever had on an airline. I love Northwest and Southwest they have both been topnotch for myself and my family. I flew them both many many times for business trips and my family has flown them to and from WDW a couple times.

is airtran a direct flight - how close are you to Dayton vs. Cincinnati - I'd say if you consider drive time & gas - if you are closer to the Cincinnati airport - Delta would be worth it -

I live smack dab in the middle of the two and this time a direct flight won out!

as far as the quality of Delta - I think being in the hub we get way better service!

ITA!

I've never heard of Airtran so I can't comment on them!

Yes I would!! I flew airtran once and now only fly Jet Blue. I flew to Florida and back on Air Tran and the A/C BOTH WAYS did not work...what a stink in that plane by the time we landed....got me thinking that if they couldn't fix the A/C, what else were they not fixing on that plane??

Air Tran has been great when I have used them. Their planes are much newer than Delta. Also no need to worry since they aren't having money problems like Delta.

Is Value Jet the one that had the plane crash in the Everglades? If so, they are JET BLUE!!! I wouldn't fly that airline if it were the only one on earth.

My brother was an airplane inspector for United... technically all airlines must follow the same safety/maintenance guidelines so is there really a "safer" fleet of planes? I'd say no... but if it makes YOU more comfortable & you can afford the $200 go for it... I'll be flying AirTrans later this year..not by choice - we won the tix, which is OK in my book! :cool1:

We flew Airtran this summer and they were wonderful. I had my knee in an immobilizer and on crutches. They totally took care of me and my family. The plane itself was neither dirtier nor more crowded than any other jet. I had no concerns, other than the weather delays.

Airtran and Jetblue are not Value Jet.....and both most likely have newer planes then Delta.....but really a mute point as all planes have very strict maintenace schedules.....

I have flown Airtran and Delta....I'd pick Airtran over delta for me because the flights would be direct...

All American Airlines are held to the same legal safety and inspection standards. Crashes are rare and practically every airline has had one (I'm wondering if the thing in that movie Rain Man about Quantas is still true).
The price of your ticket doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

But I would pay extra to fly an airline authorized in a "first world" country as compared to a "second or third world" country.

Thanks for all the posts.

I think I may do Airtran down and Delta back. Both are direct and are the times that I want. Looks as though it has been decided for me. The only Airtran flight home is 8am and I hate leaving early like that.

Thanks :goodvibes

My family has flown AirTran on numerous occasions. Their planes are new. Their pilots and flight attendants are friendly. They have several non-stop flights between Akron and Orlando. They are inexpensive. And they have to follow the same safety regulations as Delta, American, United, Northwest, and all the other airlines.

Climbing back onto my soapbox, I will once again say that you are in more danger of being injured on the drive to/from the airport than you are in ANY US carrier's airplanes.

What Towncrier said. I love Airtran...cheap and direct!

eta, though...if $200 means peace of mind for you, and you can afford it, then by all means. $200 isn't all that much to pay for peace of mind, IMO, and I know what it's like to drive yourself crazy with "whatifs".
