Would you spend 1 night in value before your deluxe stay?

I just booked ASMu for the first night of our December trip. We aren't going "all the way" to a deluxe though, but our room at CBR would have been almost 2x as much as the AAA Rate for ASMu that night. Since we aren't arriving until about 11pm I didn't want to even pay the moderate rate for just sleeping.

We will have a car, and I thought about staying somewhere cheap off-site. The off-site places we were looking at were only $15 cheaper than the AAA ASMu rate, and I don't know where they are located exactly.

Last night I had a nightmare that we stayed off-site that first night then the next day we got lost and couldn't find our way to WDW. The whole morning was wasted trying to get there! I woke up in terror and got right on the phone with CRO after that to book on-site.

We did this our last trip in May- we booked our first night at POP since we were driving in late that day. We checked into CBR at 8 am the next morning, and although our room wasn't ready, we got all of the requests we wanted (our room was ready at noon). Worked out perfectly!

OP here. Wow! I had no idea so many of you do this! Now, I'm seriously considering this. (Wait until I lay this on my DH when he gets home!:rotfl: )

Now...
In my post I was considering ASMo (because I think my DD6 would love it,) but one of you mentioned that POP might be better. So...

which would you choose for one night? ASMo, ASMu, or POP? (ASSp doesn't appeal to us at all.)

On our 6/2005 trip, we flew in around 4pm and stayed for the night at the POP and took a taxi around 8am the next morning to the Beach Club. We loved it and we just booked a trip for 8/08 and we're staying at the POP and checking into the BC early the next morning. that way you get the most out of your package and can begin using the tickets and meal credits right away.

Ive started vacationing from Fri to Fri to save DVC points
I stay at a value or moderate Fri-Sun then Sun morn go to the park nearest our new resort.
In April I started at Pop for the wknd then switched to BCV
Just last wk DS15 & I started at Riverside then switch to VWL

In Nov Im starting at Pop on Fri (asked for 50s sect as I'll be turning 50 on that vacation and I was born in the 50s). Then on Sun I'll be switching to the BCV to be nearest to my "men in skirts" Off Kilter. They dont start playing till Sundays anyways.

We did just that.

A few years ago we drove straight through (16 hours from Indiana. Ouch) and I knew we'd be arriving late. So, I made a reservation at ASMu for one night and then the next morning we checked in at the Poly for the rest of our stay.

With my AP discount I only paid $60 (that included tax!) for that one night at ASMu. How sweet!

Definitely POP, though ASMo would probably be my second choice for the theming. I've never stay at the AStars, but I understand that they sometimes share bus service, meaning you'd have to ride through all 3 resorts before leaving for the parks/returning to your room. Plus, POP is the newest of the values. My dd was 7 the first time we stayed there, and she loved the theming. Almost as much as the tie-dyed cheesecake!

Last year we stayed in ASMo and my girls loved it. The icons are from some of their favorite movies so that was a real pluse. We have some great photos from the night we stayed there (Herbie the Love Bug, Toy Story, 101 Dalmations). I think your DD will probably love any of the values no matter where you finally decide.

I actually had 1 night at ASMo booked before checking into Poly for 3 nights. But, changed it to all Poly, because I didn't want the headache of switching hotels. But, it is a GREAT idea!!! I was just worried about moving luggage etc.:flower3:

My DD5 loved Pop. That's the only value we've tried, but she thought it was way cool:).

I did it last year, stayed at POR for one night since we arrived in the evening, and then went to Poly the next morning. Sometimes it can be a big pain, so I weigh my decision carefully before I choose to do that...but it does get more of your money's worth at the deluxe...although I wouldn't say you are guaranteed a good room. I've checked in late too and still gotten what I requested.
