Would you sign a petition for the IOC to change their charter and add motor sports (Nascar/F1) to the Summer Olympics? Just curious, since gaming will become an Olympic sport in the future, why not Nascar/F1 too? 🏎️

No. Gaming really shouldn’t be either. Most Olympic sports are human or gravity powered. I love auto racing, but it’s just not a good fit. It’s also very expensive and would prohibit many countries from participating. Should air racing be in the Olympics? Probably not.

No. The country hosting the Olympics already has to spend way too much money on venues of limited use after the games are over. IOC doesn't care what sort of debt the hosting country is stuck with and seems to be living in the past. Olympics USED to be about amateur athletics and when they added professional golfers or basketball players to the list made NO sense to me. Adding other pro sports would be a mistake.

Wouldn’t matter to me, as I have no interest in auto racing (nor do any of my family or friends). But I agree with other posts, it would be logistically difficult.

I also don’t think gaming should be included; it’s not an athletic event. I may be biased since I am old and did not grow up with video games, but I don’t want to watch other people playing them.

No way. It’s super expensive. Plus F1 teams are multi national. So how do you break it down by country? Plus the F1 series spans most of the year. They are not going to want to stop the series for the Olympics.

I agree with all of you. I originally asked the question because I saw a YouTube video that was saying it would be difficult but not impossible for it to happen. I nor a Nascar/F1 fan myself but I knew some on here are, so I figured I'd ask fans of the sport what they thought. Thanks for replying to the thread everyone.

F1 would be unworkable in the Olympics.

Red Bull would compete for Austria, but whoops, they use a Japanese Engine.
McClaren would compete for England but whoops, they use a German Engine.
Mercedes would complete for Germany but whoops, they use two British drivers.
Ferrari would compete for Italy but whoops, they use a French and a Spanish Driver.

The only team with chassis, engine, and drivers from the same country are Alpine. And well they're standing 6th at the moment in constructors. They're ahead of the back markers but not up to the standards of the good teams.

I really don't think any of them would be willing to break up a season to build a special car for the olympics and scramble around to find a driver from their country.

Oh wait. I think I see the Nascar entry from Camaroon.

The only way I would sign it is if it was for carting. Less expensive for the host country and the competitors, and a more standardized racing method. Less people needed to run a team. Most racers start in carting before the move to many many different types of motorsports.

Olympics are a shell of their former self, with diluted rules & structure, and it would be no surprise if they continue to add everything and anything to make more money. I don't watch them anymore.

And I say that as someone who attended an Olympics and loved every minute of it ...

Hey if they allow Go Carts, Bumper Boats and Mini Golf, I've got three Golds right there.

Could not be the same said for motorcross/motorbike events at the Olympics be considered the same by that logic?

My son is a huge NASCAR fan and we've had this discussion many times. The difference between biking events and auto racing is that the bikes are still powered by the human body. There is no engine that propels the bike. The rider has to do all the work. It's the same with bobsledding. The sleds are built and maintained for maximum speed and maneuverability. But the strength and speed of the athletes who give it that initial push, the technique they use to jump in, the positions they maintain during the ride and the physical skills of the driver are what contributes to posting the fastest time. While I understand that NASCAR drivers are highly skilled, the car is powered by an engine and, therefore, not comparable to other Olympic events.
