Would you send them? (kinda long)

Vague title I know.

Last year I found out a girl I knew in HS died of a brain tumor. She was a year younger than me. We were both in choir and in a madrigal group together with 16 other students. When I was a Jr and she a sophmore we took voice lessions during our free period together.

Duing the last few months I've been transferring all my HS VHS tapes to DVD. Many are choir performances, plays, musicals and other events that she was involved in. I've made copies for the HS friends that I've kept in touch with.

Part of me feels like I should send copies to her parents. I don't know them at all, and I actually don't have any way of contacting them but I do know the priest at their church and I'm sure he or my HS would forward them to her family. This girl was also close to my HS boyfriend's sister and I do know how to contact him. I'm positive that his sister would still keep intouch with her family.

It's really no work for be to burn additional copies of the DVDs and I don't think I'd really want to talk to or see her family. I'd likely just give them to the priest next time I'm home and have him pass them along.

What do you think? Would you send them? I feel like I'm intruding on their grief. That isn't my intention at all. I just noticed while transferring the video how much she's in them. I don't even know if that would make them more sad or if they'd even want something like that.

I would. I think it will be a wonderful thing. They may not have video of her at that point in her life.

If it were may child that died I would love to have them. I think it's very thoughtful :thumbsup2

I would absolutely send them with a nice note about how much you enjoyed singing with her. They may not be able to look at them for a long time, but they will know there are there.

I personally think that it is a great idea. They may be sad, but they will always run into memories of her, with or without the DVD's. They can chose whether they want to watch them or not. to you and whatever you decide.

I think that's very thoughtful, and that they'd probably love to have the tapes. I know I would!

A few months ago my dad found an old newspaper clipping tucked in a drawer. It was the announcement of my parents' engagement (back when they used to have those sorts of things in a small town paper) complete with a gorgeous picture of my mom.

My mom's cousin had the clipping copied and beautifully framed for each of us (my dad, my sister and I) and I cried when she gave it to me.

One of my most cherished possessions now is a CD of my mom's eulogy. I knew I would be able to get a written transcript of the priest's words, but I had no idea he was taping it. The priest even made a special label when he burned the CD's, with a background of blue hydrangeas, which had became a recurring faith symbol for my mom during her illness.

It would be a priceless gift to her family. I have lost a child, I know from the bottom of my heart they would cherish these. You are wonderful for thinking of them this way.

Yes by all means send it. It would mean the world to them I am sure.

I'm agreeing with everyone else here. Send the DVD to her parents this is something they will treasure.

Oh yes, absolutely send them! I lost a younger brother (he was 16) when I was in college. My parents recently transferred all of their old home movies to DVD. We watched them together for the first time over the holidays. It was so wonderful to get to see those happy moments again. Truly, even after all of these years, very healing.

This would surely be a most generous and treasured gift to your friend's family.
