Would you recommend the H&V?

I was just wondering about the food at the Hollywood & Vine. Is it good? Should I use it for the Fantasmic Dinner Package?

I personally would not recommend it. Horrible service, diner atmosphere, and just mediocre food. Next time we'll do Mamma Melrose!

crap...that doesnt sound good. I booked our fantasmic at H&V in May as it looked the closest to the fantasmic place and thought my kids might be tired and not want to want all the way across the park. Our first day at disney I booked at mama melrose just for an early dinner.
Hmmm should I risk Hollywood and Vine or not????

I don't recommend either, food wasn't that great, and our server dissappeared until it was time to collect her tip!

I guess it all depends on the luck of the draw!! The past two times we have been there (we go every trip as this is one of my husband's favorites!) we have had really good service. The kids love being able to make their own ice cream desserts too!!!!

Well, Ive been really struggling with this choice myself. I've got ADR's for H&V Fantasmic pkg for 5/23, but wondering if this is a mistake. I chose H&V originally because DH isn't crazy about Italian, and BD is 2 credits. Now I'm just about ready to cancel H&V, wait in line for Fantasmic, and have a good meal in another park or resort on another day! There, it's settled! :yay:

It is a good thing that there is such a variety of restaurants at WDW./

I particularly like Hollywood and Vine. I have been going for years, and look forward to eating there again in September. I actually prefer H&V over 50's PT and MM.
As for the food, it is okay. Not the best I have ever eaten, but definitely not the worst.
I find that the ambiance is not there, but to me it is like a "diner". As for waiting for a server: what for???? It is a buffet. Just go get food, refills of drinks will come automatically. Sure sometimes the restaurant is crowded and loud, but what Disney Restaurant isn't???
the salad selection is very, very good. Plus a great selection of different breads and butters to go with the bread.
The flank steak, although small portions, is good: I have never had tough or grissly steak here. The fish is always good, and the chicken is well cooked and seasoned.
The dessert bar is one of the best in all of WDW.

There is a negative with this restaurant: that negative is some adults who just let there kids wander up to the various stations without any supervision.

If I was to rate this establishment I would give it a solid 8 out of ten.

We ate at the H & V last Friday and we will never EVER return. It was the worst meal of our trip. The only good food items were the salad bar and the make your own deserts. The Flank Steak was terrible, and the choices not good. The food was not hot.
The restaurant was overly loud, even for a disney restaurant!! We were surrounded by dirty tables, which were not bussed or cleaned.
All in all, a nasty experience.

We had to wait 20 minutes after we were finished eating for her to come bring us our bill so we could pay and leave. All of our drinks sat empty at least once.

Buffet means you don't rely on a server for food, but you still have to rely on them somewhat.

I won't say our experience was everyone's, obviously many people like it. But we had a bad experience there.

Like Hopefully, it was the worst meal of our vacation. And hey, I ate there last Friday too! We had a 4:40 ADR on 4/28/06. We may have been there with ya!

We ate at H & V on the Fantasmic package last summer. It was DH, myself, DD2 and DS8. I can't say that we would bother eating there again. The food was ok, but nothing special at all. There are very few restaurants at Disney that I don't enjoy, but this was one of them. Now in all fairness, we did have a problem with the people at the table next to us that helped make dining unpleasurable. The couple had two kids. There DD6or7 was doing handstands in the booth. She knocked into me several times. There were times that she was practically sitting with us. She was trying to sit up on the edge of the booth at one point. The waitress asked her to sit several times, but it really did no good. Her parents were not bothered by her at all. Did I mention that she was throwing food at one point? Ok, I guess I am a little biased in my opinion but the food still wasn't that great.

We did the Fantasmic package there last week, and it was excellent. There was a good selection of food and the service was great.

We had a party of 6, ranging in age from 11 to 60, and everybody thought it was great. I was a bit worried about it beforehand, as i'm not fond of buffets, but it was very good.

we have eaten there twice. The service isn't great, the food isn't bad. I would give it a solid C. We like the fantasmic package so we keep eating there! I wouldn't say it would ruin your day if you ate there, but its not something you would remember fondly.

Yes the food is very good, and I would recommend it for the Fantasmic DP, we did this past January. :thumbsup2

While we did have good service, I agree with the rest of your post and we are doing MM next trip.

Just subscribing....we have the Fantasmic Dinner Package booked there in August.....

I know I'm in the minority here, but we've done H & V 3 times, CP twice, and CM three times. All 3 times for H & V we've done the FDP - yes, it is a closer trip to Fantasmic in case your ressies are close to showtime and getting to the "secret" entrance, and no walking all the way to the front from MM.

Had to wait once 30 minutes, even with FDP - that was last fall during FDP - which we did not have then. Longest wait time we ever had there.

Last trip we also did CP and it was an off nite there - raw prime rib and a nasty CM server/carver who refused cutting me an another guest a less blue piece! CP got crowded, loud and messy really fast, and could not come up to the wonderful experience we'd had there previously.

But back to H&V. Love the mushroom chicken penne, Love the flank steak and the flavored butters. Love the fish. Dessert bar IS, indeed, one of the best and DS is still carrying on about those chocolate filled vanilla mousse cups he discovered. DD is only 9 and loved the flank steak - went back twice for her. Last visit did not "feel" crowded or noisy - maybe different acoustics than CP with the high ceilings - not sure.

Like a diner? Perhaps...but a nice diner. A maybe because of no characters, there seemed to be fewer small children running about. I can just kkep track of my own!!

Our servers have always been good - one was rushed on a previous visit, but she was still sweet - and drinks were offered more frequently than we even needed them!

So funny how everyone's experience has been different! This was mine - I say you need to check it out yourself! It's not a uniformly bad restaurant which almost EVERY poster agrees is not-so-hot, like ABC Commissary or Sci-Fi's food.

H&V also shares the kitchen with PTC and you share the restrooms.

Good luck deciding!
