Would you rather live by WDW or DL?

Near DL, without a moment's hesitation. We love vacationing in SoCal - the climate and people are great, and there is so much more to do than just DL. When we have explored the areas around WDW (and my apologies to those who live there) and... ummm... no thanks.

Would you rather live by WDW or Disneyland? I think about this a bunch because we (family) have a chance to relocate in a year and have considered both areas based on warm weather, things to do, etc.

If you had to pick, would you prefer Florida and the World or California and the Land?

Live near Disneyland:
With 25 million of my closest friends; jam packed 8 lane interstates running through almost every yard; California taxes coming out the wazoo; Nancy Pelosi.

Live near Disney World: The heat; No income taxes; No distinct change in seasons; did I mention the heat.

Thank you, but I'll stay where I am. I would rather Disney be a special place to go. Something different. Some of the magic of going to Disney would be gone for me.

I'd choose Disneyland for the weather, but unfortunately, I've informed dh that he would have to bail me out of jail if I had to commute daily on the I-5!!!! And this is coming from someone who commuted to Boston everyday, and now lives in Southwestern CT (crazy traffic)!

Nancy Pelosi.

Wrong part of the state. Also, the state government has more influence on your everyday living than one representative leading the minority in the House. Just sayin'. :rolleyes1

If I had to choose one, I would take the ills of Southern California over the ills of Florida. Better weather; more amenities; no alligators; no hurricanes.

I'll take the random earthquake and traffic over I-4, tourists 24-7, and (sorry) Florida construction/architecture and lack of basements.

I've never been to DL but I've been to Cali many times and love it! If COL isn't an issue, I'd choose southern Cali.. I love WDW and would vacation there whenever possible.

well i already live like an hour from DL but we still prefer to vacation in wdw. i don't think i could deal with florida on a regular basis tho.

Super interesting. DH and I have talked a lot about retiring to Florida to be close to WDW. I guess DLR and SoCal weather never occurred to us. That said, with family in the midwest, Florida is where all our neighbors go to retire - ease of access to "home" would be a big factor in our decision.

We live about 20 minutes from DL. Since I think a lot of the charm of wdw comes from resorts and restaurants and DLR is so compact, I'm glad I live by DLR for frequent pop ins with no planning.

However, ca has its challenges. The homes in my neighborhood are in the $600k range. We don't live anywhere fancy and it's not a new neighborhood. This is pretty typical of oc. Salaries aren't commensurately higher either. I would say a typical commute around here, if you aren't going all the way to LA from OC, would be 15 miles taking 45 minutes.

However, there's so much to do here and the weather and sunsets and beaches make it worth it. Maybe that's because I couldn't take the humidity in Florida. Not for anything. It's a complete deal breaker for me. And Mosquitos. They would eat me alive.

I guess you'll take the hi taxes as compared to no taxes. Kind of left that one off.

Still too close Pelosi. State's too liberal. Have friends who own a busness there and are trying to get out. They say others as well.

That's hilarious. :-) that would really only be a problem if the op is conservative, right? Many move here for the more open attitudes. And the economy here is on the upswing, mprobably faster than Florida. I am no economist though.

OC is a very republican and conservative county compared to the rest of the state. It's known as the orange curtain.

Ive been trying really hard lately to talk my husband to move closer to WDW! We are in ILL and are educators, we lost control of our retirement to our lovely state, we are sick of the state and weather and LOVE WDW. Ive been looking at houses and there are some great looking houses at a much more affordable cost than our current house is. Hoping I can get him to go south soon!

Having lived 10 miles from DL for 4 years, I miss it terribly. DL/DCA are MUCH better day-trip parks. You can get in them very easily, i.e. once you're in the parking lot, it's just a short tram ride to DTD and both parks.

The weather IS better, but the earthquakes scared the hell out of me. I thought they wouldn't be a problem, like when I dealt with 13 years of hurricaines in Florida. I thought you wouldn't have the week anticipation and madness that come with an approaching hurricaine.. and with an earthquake you don't have that anticipation.. but you also don't have ANY warning. It got so bad for me that a truck rumble outside my apartment would have me standing up in bed in the middle of the night looking for a place to hide.

Now that I have been away for 4 years, I would go back to living that close to DL in a heartbeat. I'll deal with the earthquake and seasonal fires if I got to go to DL every weekend :)

However, I am looking at a new job that might put me 20 minutes from WDW... so who knows :)

DL. I'd move to So Cal in a heartbeat. Florida isn't for me even though I'd continue to visit my favorite WDW there.

DL by a 1000%. we actually lived in SoCal for a year and it was amazing. Having DLCA in our backyard was pure bliss. Also, it is very much a 'locals' park.

We are WDW vets first but DLCA stole our hearts. 61 days till we return to DLCA for 10 glorius day!

SoCal in a heartbeat....

Actually we're moving to San Diego this summer from the east coast :goodvibes

Though I will offset that by saying my husband is a San Diego native, we've lived there in the past, and we can't wait to be back. We enjoyed our time in NC, but the humidity is horrible, the allergies, and the constant bugs. Plus I'd say the tornadoes are pretty comparable to earthquakes, so I'll take the quakes again.
