My husband and I had this discussion last night. I hate to be itchy! I would rather be in pain than itchy and he thinks I am nuts!!! What about you? Would you rather be in Pain or Itchy?

More info. I had PUPPS when I was pregnant with my first and was covered in an itchy rash from head to toe. It was the worse 2 weeks of my life and and they actually induced me just short of 37 weeks.. thank god! Also last year I got poison Ivy on my face, legs and chest and it was pure torture!!!

Itchy.

I've been both (and more than a few times, both at the same time). Itchy is maddening but can be relieved by scratching. Pain is...well..pain.

In fact, Norco (hydrocodone) causes me to itch all night long if I take it before bed, and that is what was prescribed when I blew out my disc two weeks ago. I was scratching AND in pain all night.

I'm lucky that I haven't had to go through any great physical pain in my life, and I haven't had kids yet, so I haven't experienced labor. However, (TMI alert!), I used to get debilitating AF cramps (BC has helped with that). I would have taken itching over that pain any day. To me, itching can be remedied more quickly than pain; Tylenol, etc. seems to take awhile to kick in sometimes.

Oh I feel for you. I had PUPP, but it didn't appear until a few days after I had the baby...the OB's were baffled by it, but the Dermotologist said he's seen a few cases like mine where the hormones get crossed and it happens after delivery instead of before :upsidedow Anyway, I would rather be in pain than itchy. I've had major back surgery & a c-section so I know pain, but I also know relaxation & breathing techniques to deal with the pain. They just don't seem to work with itching for me though.

I'd much rather be in pain. Pain you can do something about-- sometimes there isnt a darn thing you can do about being itchy.

I voted Other.

I'd rather be whichever I'm not. ;)

Pain for me. I had a SEVERE case of shingles years ago. I experienced both. Neither were much fun ( i was getting morphine every 3 hrs), but the itching I couldn't do anything about. I couldn't scratch, touching the area would cause too much pain even on the morphine. Just because its itchy doesn't mean you can scratch it :rotfl: ... I pick pain.

I think it's funny that people say the same thing about both conditions. Most pain meds do nothing for my extreme pain. But the meds I was given for my extreme itching when I caught foliculitis from my hottub worked great.

Ibuprofen works for my headaches, but other than that, ALL pain meds do nothing for me.

I'll take pain, thank you. Several decades ago, when I was a kid, I got hit by a car (multiple times, actually - apparently she was determined to finish the job) - as a result, my knee, which was rebuilt, always hurts. It varies from an easily ignored dull ache, to a sharp and intense pain. That same calf & shin is dead to almost all sensation, but it is prone to itching fits, during which I can scratch as much as I want, but it won't relieve the sensation, and can tear up the skin pretty well. I've learned to live with the pain, but I don't think I could take the itching on a continuous basis.

This thread is making me itch. :scratchin

Having just gotten rid of poison ivy I have to say pain. I thought I was going to go crazy with the itching.

I'd definitely rather be itchy. In fact, I had surgery last Thursday and the pain killers make me itch. Still taking them, rather than dealing with the pain, is the way to go.

Well after the 7 operations I had last year and the huge amount of pain that went with them, I think it would be better to be itchy for sure!!

:thumbsup2 I'm wondering if some of those who said they'd rather be in pain have dealt with some of the kind of pain I/we/some have.
