Atlanta Airport is a nice Airport but Very big. If it is a short layover you probably want Memphis as you will be able to make you connecting flight easier. Delta has a huge number of Gates in Atlanta so a short layover may cause a slight problem with getting from one to the other
I might disagree with the PP. Because Northwest was all over Memphis and is now part of Delta. Pretty much Delta is all over the airport. Granted it's a tenth the size of ATL.
That being said you can move through ATL easy. If you have kids it has the subway between terminals. Since it is bigger it has more shops and places to eat as well.
i fly from California Atlanta is one of my connecting city make sure you have plenty of time to connect in Atlanta because it is a large airport. it is a short flight to Orlando 1hr 30 min
If all other factors are equal (travel time, air fare), I'd choose a layover in Mephis. It is a smaller, easier-to-navigate airport - and, if time allows, has some fun dining options available.
Having flown through both, I'd give ATL the edge. Found MEM layout to result in longer walks to my connecting flights. Of course, that depends on what terminals you flights arrive/depart at, so that can be said of either venue. What gives ATL the edge is its logical layout and well designed people mover/moving sidewalk options for going between terminals if you do have to change.
