Would you pay $75-$90 to see 'fake' Disney Princesses?

Here in Nashville, apparently there are a group of girls acting as some of the Disney Princesses, hosting events, and charging $65 per child, $10 for the first parent, and $15 for the 2nd parent to eat ice cream with the 'Princesses'.

Is it just me or does this seem tacky as heck? They aren't promoting these as a Disney event which makes me wonder about the legitimacy of it, but they are using the actual Princess names. To me, it just comes off as a scheme to take advantage of people who maybe can't afford to go to WDW.

They may very well find a Cease and Desist letter in mail very soon.

Aren't all Disney princesses fake? They come from fiction and the park representations are just that, representations.

Not sure if this is Legal? I would think that Disney might have something to say about this. If reported they may hear from Disney Lawyers.

Well, yes, I get that they are all 'fake' per se, its just that I imagine the ones in Disney have been trained to Disney's standards (on how to speak, act, etc).

edit:

The above is a link to the event. Here is their actual FB page:

They seem to be doing something similar to BBB and even have a "The Little Mermaid Slumber Party" and "Minnie's Toddler Day". I find it HIGHLY doubtful Disney has approved the use of their copyrights for this, especially given the grammatical errors all over their page.

No, but I wouldn't pay to see 'real' Disney princesses either. I wonder exactly what Disney has copyrights to, as the stories of many of the princesses are from old fairy tales that Disney can't claim most of the names I would think? Perhaps they can copyright the costumes?

We have some groups here that do things that are similar. I don't think it's right. The price of this one seems to include more than just ice cream, but I could not get past the horrific grammar on the Facebook event page!

No, but I did pay to have fake Disney princesses at my DD's birthday party. The came read a story to the kids, played some games with them, and did face painting. The company I used actually doesn't use Disney Princess names ie..Elsa is the Snow Queen and Anna is the Snow Princess, Jasmine is an Arabian Princess. They do use the real name for the fairy tale princess that are in the public domain ie Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc. The cost was no where near $65 a kid. I definitely wouldn't have paid that. They definitely weren't the real Disney princesses, but my 3 year old didn't care.

There is a Princess Ball by me that has young women dressed up as Disney characters. It was awful. There was an African American woman dressed as one of the seven dwarfs. She was in a short-sleeved outfit where you could obviously see that she had very dark skin with a white mask. Also, the chests on the dwarves were very obvious. It is cringe-worthy and my daughter figured out very quickly that they weren't real, which made her think the Disney characters weren't real either. Definitely not worth ruining that Disney magic.

I'm in nashville as well. My daughter does volunteer appearances as a character here. These folks are making a KILLING. It's huge business here right now. The groups are ultra competitive and it's very ugly behind the scenes (they snatch each others gigs, most of the teens who are appearing aren't even getting paid, they are simply "gaining acting experience" while the owner of the company laughs all the way to the bank). After a very nasty experience with one of the groups here, my daughter opted not to participate in the money aspect of it, she volunteers at charity events, visits hospitals, etc.

It's crazy.

They will soon find a C&D being sent to them by Disney and if they don't listen to that, they will be sued. Disney does NOT play around with their copyrights/trademarks.

Using the real names will just mean next time they will be smart enough to fake the names. They also need to put in big bold letters they are not officially licensed Disney characters.

These are becoming super popular and this one seems to go even further. I originally saw a bunch that were just hiring them to come to your kid's party since you can't get real official characters but this is just weird. A private party at the zoo that has separate tickets that can't be bought from the zoo and probably costs more than a regular day just so you can meet some off brand princesses. A Barnes and Nobel in Tx had a princess night and they were so bad I felt terrible for a friend who stood in line for 2 hours for her daughter to meet Elsa and Olaf.

No because I don't believe its legal. In general it wouldn't bother me to hire fake princesses. I wouldn't care if they weren't trained by Disney, they are just women in costumes. Its not like they are doctors.

Using the real names of the characters in the public domain is perfectly legal. What they can't do is use the images and story lines created by Disney.

The facebook page uses the name Tiana (the other names I know were all public domain). Isn't Tiana solely Disney?

There is a local company around here that does this, they even do 'fake' minnie mouse, etc. The costumes are so....awful that I just lol when I see the pics.... and I can't believe they get away with it,and people pay for it! My best guess is they can't find everypne, everywhere doing this so people get away with it for a while....

Reminds me of the fake Mickey that you see in NYC... :O

I don't think I'd pay $65 for that, although I'm sure kids would get a kick out of it and some may not know the difference!

I'm also in the "nope" category. There's a princess ball thing where I live and my daughter hated it last year when we went. We were only going since her friend was but then friend couldn't go at the same time as us.

Total waste of money and I was against it from the start due to copyright laws so this year I will be more firm.

I was going to post a thread yesterday, but I thought, I would get a lot of flack from people, that cannot afford to go to Disney any longer. I see a lot of advertising on Facebook, on our local city pages. They are very careful by saying "Princesses" and not mentioning any certain princesses by name, but they show almost all of them in character. Most times I want to say something, but these women or girls found a nitch and it is very popular. I see many of my friends, daughters posting pictures of their grandchildren's birthday party. Just last weekend, my friend posted pictures of her granddaughter having an Arial party and everyone was dressed as little mermaids.

Disney put out these adult costumes that you could purchase, mainly around Halloween. What did they think people were going to do, just wear them for Halloween, and now they are back peddling and asking adults not to dress up as Disney characters. Yes that is just another scenario-but I feel this is where it all started.

I agree it is wrong, but is it going to stop people-of course not. Look how Disney has put Frozen characters in every park. It baffles me. It seems like Disney has turned into Frozen and Star Wars, what ever happened to Mickey Mouse. Like I said in the beginning, people can not afford to take their children to Disney, so they are bringing Princesses to their children.

I have recently seen ads locally for "A Very Frozen Musical Production" which features "The Snow Queen" and "The Princess" and "Their snowman friend." The illustration clearly shows Anna and Elsa but it then says "based on the Hans Christian Andersson fairy tale, no connection to Disney." I'm not going, but I have some friends who are taking their kids and I'm quite curious about what it will be like. They have been touring around, according to their site.

I don't think it's right, but I see a lot of advertisements where I live for the princesses to come to a child's birthday party. I doubt the cost is this high.

What I really think is wrong with this place is the first link had it go to the Ultimate Princess Party which is held at the Nashville Zoo! I can't believe the zoo would want to be affiliated with this.
