Would you love a big and long water slide at Castaway Cay?

A nice big tropical themed pool would be nice. Im not keen swimming in the sea, I dont like the salt.

oooooooo yes that would be great! I don't like ocean swimming either.

The tide might be more of an issue than you think......on our Aug double dip cruise, both times at CC the water playground was shut for several hours due to the drop in the water level because of the tides.

I, too, didn't think the tide varied that much in the Bahamas but I was wrong.

I love the natural feel to Castaway Cay. A water slide would ruin it for me. I like the structure on the family beach for the kids. I think that's great. But, it has a beach-feel to it.

I just want to sit in a chair with a drink in my hand and think about what a great trip I've just had. Most of us unfortunately go back to work that following Monday.

Can't wait to see CC again soon!!!

Come on, it's just ridiculous to say that "The whole point of the cruise is...."

No more "ridiculous" than statements that CC needs to be turned into another generic water park, just to satisfy some people who appear to be bored by nature.

A pool slide is not necessarily a "huge water park attraction"

Perhaps, but methinks certain people are ignoring statements on this thread by those who want not just a slide but also a "nice big tropical themed pool." At this rate, I'm sure we'll soon be hearing that a roller-coaster type attraction would also be a nice addition... :rolleyes1 Yep, these are just the sort of things you'd find on a "desert island....."

Your comment about "why don't they just stay at WDW" makes about as much sense as saying "If people want big production stage shows why don't they just stay at WDW?"

I can't agree with that analogy, on two levels: first, the "resorty" environment onboard is not the subject of the "debate" here, it's the small undeveloped Caribbean island environment ashore. Second, anyone who really appreciates true Broadway knows that the "shows" you get at both WDW and on DCL (which lack among other things live music) are a stepchild substitute for the real thing.

The point of a cruise is having a great vacation

Here we most certainly agree -- albeit the definition of what makes one "great" is obviously subjective.

I know people who have gone on cruises and never set foot in salt water and they've still had a great time. I hope next years cruisers aren't missing "the point" when they enjoy heavily developed places like Barcelona and Rome.

Oh, pleeeze...expectations for a Mediterranean itinerary are obviously different than those for the Caribbean!!!! Although -- if this thread is representative of the mindset of some DCL sailers -- there will apparently be some disappointment next summer, when some DCL passengers discover that Italy and France aren't like the steam cleaned Epcot World Showcase-style fictionalized utopian versions!!

Bottom line: those who want controlled artificial fantasy can already get it in spades at WDW, and to a large degree aboard ship on DCL. Can't CC be left as it is -- a tiny taste of "turn off your @*#!$ cell phone and Ipod and smell the roses?" :teeth:

a water slide would proberly be alright but i doubt disney would do a big waterpark theme because it would just ruin the eco-system there

NO! NO! NO! It would ruin the whole island! The whole point of CC is a place for guest to relax before they begin their travels home.

I agree. No water slide or park. It would ruin the island.

Another BIG no. It (and/or a pool) would be totally out of place. There are three pools on the ship just a few steps away.
As per the Travel Channel video DCL's goal was "to provide the quintessential BEACH experience."
They've succeeded in that. Why are we trying to improve on perfection?

I just LOVE water slides, of all types. The longer and higher the better. I would just love it if they would add one big fun or maybe even two slides at Castaway Cay. Wouldn't that be a blast? :)

YES!!!! They have plenty of room to do one! It would be nice to slide down into the ocean. One for kids and one for ADULTS!!! PLEASE!!! :cloud9:

Nobody wants a generic water park. Perhaps just a very well themed pool with resort pool sized water slide. Disney is an expert at 'hiding' things with theming. They could put it back 100 yards from the beach and nobody would know it was there unless they went looking for it. Wouldn't 'ruin' the island for anyone.

What's wrong with a tropical themed pool if it's hidden away as I stated above? If you don't want to make use of it, pretend it's not even there.

Nobody made a reference too broadway shows or compared the DCL/WDW shows to broadway.

EXACTLY! Which is why someone shouldn't come along and say "The point of CC is....", because the "point" is subjective as this thread proves. You have to trust Disney....if they do ever decide to add a water slide or pool, you can be sure they would do it in a way that wouldn't "ruin" the island for anybody.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Now this (along with the previous statement "Yep, these are just the sort of things you'd find on a "desert island.....") is funny! CC is as much a controlled artificial fantasy as Epcot center is in many respects. In fact, I think a visit to Epcot center gives you a much better feel for what Italy and France would be like than a visit to CC does with respect to a real deserted island.

I think it would be cool if they could add a pool or a slide, as long as it was out of the way of the beaches and things. It would free up beach space for people who wanted the beach, and be another thing for people to do. And it is more realistic than adding more pools to the ship. Fun!!

We cruised NCL in 1983 right after they opened up their private island, Great Stirrup Cay. Just a beach, food, beverage and music on the island.
Two years later, we cruised again on NCL, but now they allowed people from nearby islands to come in on their own boats and set up a huge "straw market", ruined the whole experience. Turned an isolated tropical island into a shopping mall.
I guess they could do it at Castaway Cay, IF they keep it out of sight of paradise. However, I wonder if it would be practical. Not sure the island water system is up to producing that much freshwater, whether the power plant could handle the filters and pumps it would require. And then there are the bugs that come out at night on the island. It sure would be work every morning to scoop all those dead creatures out of a fresh water pool.

Here are some shots of the so-called "expertly hidden" slides at various WDW resorts and parks:

Nope, don't notice this one at all...

I think some of you guys are missing the point of this thread ....the OP was only asking for peoples' opinions..... its not a 'right' or 'wrong' session :guilty:

Everyone is entitled to express their own thoughts and ideas .......without others responding with (in their opinion) why they are not correct.

This is a friendly board :lovestruc

This thread is doing exactly what you described - posting of opinions, with some friendly debate (inevitable given the subject matter, it's impossible for people not to respond to the points made by others).

So as they say in La la land, "cool your jets." :teeth:
