Would you like to see 3 point tiers at BWV?

I will preface by saying that we own at BCV, VWL & SSR, but have stayed at BWV on several occasions when there wasn't availability at VWL and BCV 7 months out.

Anyway - now that people can reserve a guaranteed BW view do you think the points charges should be adjusted to BW, Preferred and Standard?

We have had one of the preferred view rooms that overlooked the roof of a maintenance buidling. We didn't care and didn't ask to be moved - but did call to make sure it wasn't a standard view by mistake. My personal opinion is that some of the preferred view rooms are a bit of a stretch to be considered preferred.

Now that BW views are guaranteed should they adjust the points?

Although I agree with it in principle (and am a BWV owner+) I think it is too late in the game.

The only way I see this as being feasible is to not touch the Standard view points and raise the Boardview to create a middle category in between. It would make my Grandvilla stay out of reach. The GV's are tough since they are only Boardwalk view and already are more than the cost of 2 2 bedrooms.

These rooms where there is not clearly a nice view should be reduced to standard.

While that may be a swell idea, I don't think it could ever work.
Just think of the mess it would create at ALL of the DVC resorts, as ALL of the resorts have areas of 'less than perfect' views... (perhaps not OKW)

I am a BWV owner and no I wouldn't. We are lucky to have the two tiered system that they have now. Notice how it doesn't exist at any of the newer resorts.

As another BWV owner, I am in total agreement!

I also own at BWV and I agree with HBC and Deep. No, I would not want 3 tiers - I am very happy the way they are.

I would probably always pony up a few extra points for a BW View, as we really like that, but I see a lot of complications.....

DVC's definition of "Preferred" means water or gardens. It doesn't preclude the fact that one may also see a parking lot. This is clearly a frustration to many. And there are those who feel that a view of the Swan is not exactly "Preferred" either.

In any event, there would have to be a fair amount of point shuffling involved to keep the total resort points the same. And, given the existing dissenting views (NPI) on "Preferred" versus "Standard" today, I see this as a bigger can of worms.

JMHO.

I suspect that DVC is probably sorry they decided to do two tiers in the first place, but I totally understand why they did. I think it makes sense to offer Boardwalk view for more points, but I suspect ALL other rooms other than BWview should be the same point value rather than having 3 point levels. I think adding yet another point level would make for booking nightmares for both the owners and the MS folks.

In quite a few instances, the difference between Preferred and Standard is only 2-4 points per night. To try to create a tier "in-between" would probably be more trouble than it's worth. I think it would be unfair to BWV owners at this point to increase the top tier -- the Boardwalk view should not go higher than it is. Everyone knew when purchasing that the Boardwalk view was limited and not guaranteed. The ability to know what you are booking in advance at least removes the "suspense" of check-in and is a good step short of creating another level.

Possibly the questionable preferred view rooms could be re-evaluated and maybe even swapped out with some of the standard views that people have cited as being quite nice -- especially the ones that look out toward the side away from the front entrance. I think looking at the garden/pond area would be preferable to looking at a roof.

I wouldn't make any changes (too complicated), but if I were going to make a change, I'd make all the non-BW views one price and the BW views a different price. The GVs are already expensive (and all on the BW) so I'd leave them the same as they are currently. So still a two tiered system - but BWV or not.

There doesn't seem to me to be that much difference between a current Ground Floor SV and a current Ground Floor view of the canal. Once you are higher up in the building, maybe.

I'm another BWV owner who's happy with the way things are now. Wish I was there!

One more BWV owner who thinks 2 is enough. I would go along with reassigning some of the current preferred view rooms that aren't that great to a standard view classification however.

I like the way it is now. We can save some points by staying in Standard view.....or we can plan ahead and be sure to get a Boardwalk view....and I don't think I'd bother booking the current "preferred" views unless that was all that was available on property. Pool views just don't do it for me.... And the way I see it the BW view is a sort of perk for being a BWV member and booking at 11 months...as is the availability of standard views.

I agree that they probably should have just made the BW views a higher point scale and the rest the same...but I think its too late to do that now.

Also, I've never had a preferred view that wasn't a boardwalk view...even before the change in rules...so I probably don't know what I'm missing with a pool view (though that had better be a quiet pool view...no clown for me thanks!) Might be convenient to be able to look out and see if the hot tub is crowded...

I would also go along with this, but they would have to be swapped out with standard views that would change to preferred view villas to keep the point structure in sync.

FYI, The original points at BWV were all the perfered view. After many complaints, they revised into the current 2 tiers format.

I think since there are only( I think ) 11% BWView rooms, it wouldn't be worth the trouble.:wave2: :wave2: % could be wrong

They do that and I wodul be majorly irriated if they didn't for the otehr resorts. As it is I think BWV owners have an advantage other owners do not. Like what about that dumpster view at VWL?!? I think a bad standard or prefferred view at BWV would still be better than looking at a dumpster. And soem wodul say your room hanging over the road at BCV isn't too great either. Yet, no tiers were ever made at these resorts...

It probably wouldn't hurt if you get a preferred view that you don't feel really meets the standard (like the roof view), to tell DVC about it. Just drop an e-mail to Jacki not complaining but mentioning it. If they get similar comments on the same room enough times, they might consider reassigning it's category.
