Would you let your teen daughter dress like this for Halloween?

Would you allow your teen to dress in one of these Halloween costumes?

  • Yes, but only because it's one day and I don't want her ostracized by her peers.

  • No. There's no way I'm letting my little girl out of the house looking like a 'ho.

Local radio poll going on regarding this:

1249_1161173955.JPG

(All descriptions and pictures from the website www.BuyCostumes.com.)

A. Purr-fect Lady Teen - This kitty is in the pink.
B. Hottie Totties Little Red Riding Hood Teen - Watch out for the big bad wolf!
C. Little Bo Peep Teen - Will you help find her sheep?
D. Ahoy Matey Teen - This sweet girl has a splash of sass!
E. Garden of Evil Pharrah Teen - She's going to give Cleopatra a run for her Egyptian pound!
F. Swashbuckling Siren Teen - Super cool and sophisticated, this sexy siren is ready to come on board!
G. Sweet & Sassy Vampiress Teen - This vampire will get the bite on you!

yeah, sure, why not?

It is Halloween. Halloween is the one time you can be ANYTHING you want to be, and IMO, that includes those kinds of costumes.

Kind of a skewed poll with the wording of your choices, I think.

I voted no, but I guess I need to qualify. I think the costumes look so provocative because of the way the models are standing, and the accessories (ie thigh highs, less "push up"). I think is some of the costumes were "dressed down" a bit, I might let my girls wear them.

It depends on the age of the teen. If I had a 13 yo 8th grader going trick or treating - no. If I had a 17 yo HS senior going to a costume party, maybe.

Yes I'd let her wear them for a party at a friends. She doesn't dress like that normally. It's one day a year to pretend.

It has nothing to do with her peers. I think your reasons in the vote are a bit off.

I said no, this is much too provocative... I have no child, but I guess I would be afraid she met some bad intentionned persons...

I think the sailor one is pretty cute.

Oh, and also, what crcormier said, "Kind of a skewed poll with the wording of your choices, I think."

I tend to agree with this....some are just OK if dressed down a bit....

otherwise, probably not....

didn't vote, for reasons others have stated about the poll and wording, etc.....

Those are so mild compared to what teens REALLY wear when they are dressing up to be provocative!!! I'm assuming we are talking high school teends and not middle school 13 and 14 year olds, though.

Copied the text from the radio website.

Anyway, I really don't care what the occasion is, I'd never let my daughter out in any of those - fine for an adult to choose but definitely not for a teen girl. Call me prude, I'd rather not have my daughter showing off skin.

Curious to hear from dads on this - the radio show was talking about how moms are typically more liberal when it comes to provocative dress then dads. Maybe I'm more cautious knowing what boys think when they see girls dressed like this?

As my girl friends put it, Halloween is the one time of the year where women can dress like a 'ho' and get away with it! :rotfl:

That said, if I had a daughter, no way she's dressing like that until she's 18. :lmao:

Or, maybe moms know the futility of the fight and the possible rebellious act the daughter may untertake instead. We were once teenaged girls, ya know....

Those costumes belong in the bedroom of consenting adults! ;)

I was thinking the same thing! I was also thinking that I have to go to that website for my halloween costume ;)

So you just give in and let them parent themselves instead of parent them? That seems like weak parenting.

I think a few of them are pretty cute. I particularly like the pirate outfit.

Believe me, I've seen a LOT worse.

::yes::

Guys like me know that many of the girls who are forced to dress conservatively by their conservative parents just have more clothes take off before they do exactly what the other girls do.

LOL! Ain't that the truth! :rotfl:

I can remember wearing a tube top and peanut pants when I was a teen and my father having a fit and telling me to take them off and put something else on. Of course the moment he left for work in the morning I put them right back on. It was just my luck the ONE day I decided to go out on my bike with this get-up that my father decided to take off early from work – my father NEVER took off early from work, but that one day. Busted me right then and there as I was riding on my bike thinking I was looking cute. It wasn’t so cute when your father pulls up in his car and busts you right in front of all your friends. :p

As for the costumes, I don’t have a daughter. I do thank God for that fact just about every day. I’m sure I’d have gotten one like myself that would more than likely worry me to death. My sons are a handful as it is. :p But if I did have a daughter I would probably say yes to some of them, no to a few. I don't like costumes depicting women as french maids so those would be a definate no.

I'd really have to see them on because you can't accurately tell how provocative those costumes are on when the models have them fitted with the intent of looking slutty and have on thigh highs and are standing provocatively.

For the most part I don't see the problem. The pirate outfit is cute
