Would you let your children, underage or grown, call you by your first name?

I would not, and wouldn't dream of calling my parents by their first names.

How about you?

nope, not at all comfortable with this. It also sounds weird to hear kids do this.

Nope...not allowed here (no one has tried).
I worked hard and earned the name "mom"!!

I refer to my dad as Bob sometimes when talking to my husband or friends, He's just such a Bob-type person that his name really fits him. But I never call him that to his face. My son (age 3) has taken to calling my husband Travis sometimes. He hears me call him that and thinks it's funny.

I will say "Marsha" instead of "mom" when we are in public and I'm trying to get her attention. When you yell "mom" every woman within earshot turns around and looks at you!:teeth:

I do call my parents by their names to my friends sometimes, as in "Paul and Marsha have lost their minds" or "You'll never guess what Paul and Marsha are doing this weekend," because that is what my friends call them.

Nope don't call them by their first name.
My daughter is now 2 and calls me by my first name at times, but she just plays and as she grows up it will not happen.

I don't do it but don't have a problem with it.

I love the Biggins family. They are such a great family and truly appreciated what they were given.

Were they biological children? If so, then no. I wouldn't allow it.

I wouldnt' have a problem with stepchildren calling me whatever they were comfortable with--as long as it was something appropriate.

I think calling your parents by their first name is impersonal. Wonder what the deal is with that...

Our parents taught us to call them by their first names in crowded places.... too many other daddy's and mommy's around... So at home it was Mom and dad... out side it was Win and Maggie.

My brother and I do that to...when dad does something stupid it'll be "Oh - did you hear what Henry did?"

otherwise - it's always mom/ma (she hates that, but we'll call her that anyway) or dad.

and, regardles of the fact that I'm 27, my aunts/uncles are still "Aunt blah blah" and "Uncle blah blah"

just a sign of respect in my family

I think THIS is a great idea but not for everyday. I could never have called my parents by their first names. My son has started with initials, so I'm M, dad is D, and he is J. That's why my user name is J's M!

I watched the show too. I never have called my parents by there first names and my children do not call me or my dh by our first names but.....if that is the way your family or culture calls there parents then who am I do disagree. People have a tendency to disagree with things that are strange to them. I also noticed the parents in the show were calling each other Mr or Mrs. Biggins when speaking to each other. That is just the way they speak.

I thought that was sweet though...

My FIL calls his wife (my MIL) by Mrs. XXX sometimes...

Like you said...it's not for me...but if it works for them, ah well.

and - yes, if I remember correctly from the Trading Spouses show they were on - those are all their biological children.

No, I feel you lose some respect being by called by your first name. And by losing some respect by trying to be more of a friend than a parent, you also will find it harder to disipline them.

Nope. My parents are Mom & Dad except in public when they become Rick & Debi. Occasionally I call my Dad by his first name when joking with him.

My aunt and uncles are refered to by their first name. My Aunt is only 13yrs older than I am and would kick my butt if I called her Aunt Cheryl :p
