my 14 year old dd wants one.

she's a good girl..wants to have a "cool" image, but basically she's well behaved.

I'm pretty liberal, we don't have too many disputes over clothing etc.

I told her she'd get a belly ring over my dead body. and that the tattoo she wants is totally our of the question.

Didn't anyone here wear hiphuggers and short shirts when they were teens? It was all the fashion when I was younger and no one seemed to blink an eye back then. It was just a fad just like this belly button piercing thing is.

Anyway, there's no reason to attack the OP as a few seem to be doing. She asked for opinions and not rulings. Ultimately, it's up to her.

I am extremely sorry I started this post, I am not sure why I did now.

To answer people who have said I am back tracking...no I am not. She hasn' gotten it done but I have agreed to let her. I guess I shouldn't start a thread when I am at work and I did not proof read it before I sent it out.

I honestly never thought of it sexually....I guess I am pretty naive (sp). See alot of the girls at my daughters school have been wearing make up and clothing that I wouldn't even wear since grades 5 and 6. My daughter does not wear make up and her only hair style is a pony tail. She doesn't wear short skirts or short tops, even her shorts hit her knees. This is something that people will not even see as even her bathing suite is a 1 piece. She is basically a tomboy but said she would like either that or a nose piercing. I find alot of the clothing girls wear today outragous and am glad my girl isn't interested in these yet. That will be a battle we fight later...

Please let this go.

Thanks

Well, I did. I caved. She was asking for that or her nose pierced so I decided the button was the worse of 2 evils. I figured she is approaching the teen years and I plan to pick my battles very carefully. DH was not thrilled with it but as I told him it is just a hole. She does have each ear pieced 3 times so she knows how to take care of it and I have been helping her.

12 years old and already has each ear pierced 3 times?!?!?! Man, I'm 20 and I don't even have my ears pierced once!!! :earseek: :rolleyes1

My unsolicited advice, don't respond or read any more. You certainly got the opinions you asked for! :teeth:

Then your OP makes absolutely no sense

I agree. There is no "proofreading" to it. The WHOLE story changed.

No way, no how!! is my answer to the poll.

My DD's tried this in their early to mid teens. The answer was NO!!!! They could do this when they turned 18, sign the consent themselves, pay for their own doctors visits and antibiotics, and have only themselves to blame if down the road they regret it.

It's my personal decision. I don't think any less of people that choose otherwise.

No way, no how a belly button ain't happening for my DD. When she is 18 she is welcome to do whatever she wants up until that point....my house, my kid, my rules!

I voted no, because I wouldn't personally allow it, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just a hole, not that big of a deal. It can always heal up if you or she decides it should.

I don't think you should be sorry you posted. You didn't know about the "sexual image" thing - now you do. Don't you think that that helps you prevent a mistake (provided of course that you rethink allowing her to get one and I'm not asking you if you have or not - that is your business)?

It also might allow you to have a good discussion with your daughter - about things that we do/wear and what it can mean to other people (boys/or worse, creepy men) - these are things all young women should be educated about so they can at least make informed decisons.

Being fully informed is a good thing and helps us make better decisions. I for one am not slamming you for asking the question - have a great day and the best of luck to you and your daughter.

.

What's next?? tattoos on her behind?? Tongue rings?? eyebrow piercings??

I agree with this statement, where does it end?
My oldest DD is 12 and luckily has no interest but she also knows me and her Dad would never allow it!

In all fairness perhaps your dd doesn't realize the perception a belly ring implies. A good talk might change her mind.
I asked my dd11 if a Mom should let her 12 year old dd get her belly pierced and her response was "That would be an obvious NO!"
