Would you lend your shoppers card to someone in line?

Heck yes I would and do.

Sometimes, regular customers forget their cards. A couple months ago, I had a rental car so my card was on my car's key ring at the shop. The cashier who knows me as a frequent customer used her own card.

If the person in front of me has forgotten and doesn't have one, I volunteer mine. Not a big deal.

I simply cannot understand the drama this question has caused!! She wasn't asking the woman to PAY for her purchase for the love of God!! I'd try to save $.50 too. And if you feel compelled to say no, can't it be done politely?? I don't understand the hullabaloo.

But then, I also have been known to borrow lipstick from my best friend.

I think people are confusing it with a "warehouse" type of store card. But it seems like it was a regular grocery store. Not normal in my area is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard.

. Well there you go. You have the lacksadaisical "lipstick borrower"attitude. ;)

I probably wouldn't shop at a store that was strict about their discount card. Let's face it. I could walk into a store once, sign up for the card to get the discount and never go back again. And I have when travelling. Got the card, used it once, have never stepped foot into the store since.

I have done this. I have a card from a grocery store chain that is in CA and another that is in FL. Neither of those chains have stores in my home state. In fact in both cases, I got the card, used it for discounts but never actually handed in the form with my name, address etc. The cards still work even if you don't register them. I'm never going to shop enough to build up points to be worth anything so why bother?

I just don't understand why so many folks seem to CARE. It has never occurred to me that anyone other than me would be permitted to use my rewards card because I have NEVER seen it done. Why would the store want to give a discount to someone who won't sign up for their program if they can get full price out of the transaction?

That's my point of view based solely on my experience. And I would imagine anyone with a similar experience would share that POV. Why would they not? Why is that so difficult to comprehend?

Now, if I were shopping in a store that encouraged card sharing, and I knew this, and I knew the store didn't care, then sure I wouldn't care either.

Put simply, if the store thinks it's a "big deal", I'm likely to agree. If they don't, I'm still likely to agree. But, it's clearly a practice that's accepted many places and I understand that. It's also a practice that is not accepted EVERYWHERE. Is that so hard to understand and accept?

:confused3

Imagine the horror. Your local grocery store will sew a huge scarlet "A" on you because they think you purchased "shudder* alcohol! Do you think they really care what you buy?

Oh hell yeah they care BUT not in the way some on here seem to think! they couldn't care less what you Mickey Mouse purchase, they care what a lot of Mickey Mouse's in that store buy!! so they can aim their displays and stocking to those items. They give the discounts to get you to use them.

They aren't tracking what you buy just the trends and what, that is why you can put fictional names on those cards and no one cares, Ever have to show an ID to get one? didn't think so.

I'd love to know if the people who won't share their cards are also the ones who keep quoting it takes a village to raise a child? but won't interact with a harmless request.

Or is it taking "stranger danger" to a new high!! First its using your card, then it's using those twizzlers you bought with it to lure you into my windowless van............

:lmao:

Personally, I LIKE to mess with Big Brother. Next time I go to the store I am going to stand by the cashier and hand my card out to everyone. That should really mess up the coupon machine!

"Try to figure out what I am buying now CVS!!!" pirate: :lmao:

::yes:: I have never, ever been asked to use my reward card. I have never, ever noticed anyone asking/offering to borrow/loan a card. It is just something that I've never witnessed.

Having a cashier swipe a store card if you forgot your own? Sure. Having a cashier ask for your phone number in lieu of the card? Sure. But having one customer ask another? Never.

I have had times where I've forgotten my card. Typically, either the cashier will swipe a store card (CVS) or I give my phone number (grocery store). If those options aren't available (or if I am shopping somewhere out of my area), I simply don't get a discount that time. :confused3 It would never cross my mind to ask someone to borrow their reward card. It just isn't the norm in my area at all.

OP here. Just saw that the thread was still going on. I know that the replies have been from one side of the gambit to the other but I really do appreciate them.

I will admit I find it sad that in areas where the cards are required that cashiers are not trained to offer and or have the form to fill out for new customers. I also was surprised that speaking to others in line was off limits in some areas. Almost considered rude. It really caught me off guard when I started reading the responses.

:scared1::scared1:I "TALK" to people in line. All the time. Small talk. I talk to the cashiers also. Ask if their day is going good, hope that their shift is over soon, etc.

So I am off to go get some licorice nibs to snack on this afternoon. I guess from this post licorice is going to become one of those candies you can only find in a specialty store since I seem to be one of the few who still snacks on it. AND I like black licorice too. (but I am the only one in the family who does).

Of course I would lend my card (and have).
Only on the DIS would this be an issue - I cant even imagine what the people who would say no are like.

This! :thumbsup2

I always let people use my card at CVS or Winn Dixie.. seriously why not? It's not hurting me any and I'm helping someone out.

Some strange people out there...:confused3
