Disney has thought of it. About a year or year and a half ago, I got an electronic survey from Disney, and one of the things they asked was about a pirate character meal.
Was it the survey that asked your interest in:
"Board a pirate vessel from a resort and sail to Pirates Cove, where
Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of bandits have cooked up a beach
barbecue. Salty songs, tall tales, delicious food, and a hunt for the
fabulous Tortuga Treasure spice up this fun-filled evening under the
stars. Guests are given a clue-filled treasure map, and friendly
competition is held to find the priceless prize."
Or was it a survey about the Tortuga Restaurant idea? That one is on the back burner for now, but the idea isn't dead yet...it got a long way on the drawing board, they even reportedly did a mock up test kitchen at PO (don't remember if it was R or FQ). And that would be really cool to have another good sit down in MK, maybe with a Blue Bayou-style menu, heavy on the Caribbean influence and flavors.
I'd love both options -- an outdoor BBQ/show meal (the thought was that it would be in the old Discovery Island area) would be a great evening. Would draw back some of the crowd that heads to the Pirate's dinner theater show and it would be a new, fresh alternative to HDDR, the Luau, or Mickey's BBQ. I could see them incorporating the Peter Pan characters, too, and maybe having Jack and Hook try to "out-pirate" one another
