I have had a similar idea floating around... DH and his brother, brother in law and my brother are going to Charlotte for the May Nascar race ... again.... maybe DD and I will go visit Mickey!

As a single mother, 24/7... it's always just my DS (turning 5 on Tuesday!!!) and myself... We had a wonderful time last year and going again in just a couple weeks!

The trick is to let it be "his vacation", his choices and be okay with riding Buzz Lightyear over and over and over...

I know this topic is a few days old, but I would do the TV/VCR. As far as changing the tape while you're driving, buy a 6 hour tape & just record directly off the TV all of his favorite shows, 6 hours worth . That would keep him occupied for 6 hours & maybe cut it off when he falls asleep, that might make it the whole way. I made a tape for my kids when we went down last week (10 hours from NC), I alternated shows for DS7 & DD4, taped some PBS, Clifford, Dragon Tales, etc. & some Nick Jr, Nickelodeon, TV Land, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, commercials & all. I accidentally taped CSPAN though, they didn't really like that though

Go for it! When my son and daughter were 8 and 5, respectively, I drove alone with them from Philadelphia. I must have been nuts (husband flew in later).

Take a bed pillow with you so they can stretch out in the back.
