PLEASE don't bring chocolates. There is only so much that a teacher can eat, and they often end up being donated/given away/thrown out. Might I suggest coffee/tea (or better yet a Starbucks gift card!) as a gift if you want to go that route.
I wouldn't because it really is a gift from the kids to their teacher. Years ago when my son was 6 his bus driver dropped him off, last day of school. She had a vodka infused watermelon that one of the parents gave her! That always struck me as wrong somehow, but, at the same time a gift I wouldn't mind receiving!![]()
Any teachers out there? Have people actually given wine to teachers? I've honestly never heard of it before. Sounds like a nice idea, but at the same time inappropriate.![]()
Totally, wildly inappropriate for alcohol to be on school grounds!!! (paraphrased)
Nope. Especially if it's being given on school grounds. (Illegal in this state to have alcohol on school grounds.)
Last week DD's teacher was telling me about a bottle of wine she recieved last year from one of the students. The teacher LOVED it. My only thought woudl be to include a note indicating the gift is to be opened afterschool.
Yes, I know she drinks wine. We've talked about it often, because DH and I are part of several wine clubs, and I was telling her about some really great wines I got. (Which is why I was thinking of giving her one).
freckles and boo, good point about who it's from. that does seem to make me sway toward not giving it to her, since the gift should really come from my daughter. I just know she would really love the gift, but I just know there are really differing opinions on this out there.
And a Chilean bottle of wine for $6.00? SIGN ME UP!! LOL!
Possession of alcohol by a minor (someone under the age of 21) is also illegal. It's a misdemeanor. Intent (whether they intend to give it to their teacher or drink it themselves) doesn't matter.
If you intend to give it to the child's teacher at the teacher's home or somewhere off school grounds fine, but alcohol has no place in the possession of a child or at school.
As a teacher and a parent, I see nothing wrong with the idea. Reading some posts surprised me of all the rules/guidelines. I had never reallly thought much about it before because here where I live and work there are no policies that I know of prohibiting such gifts.(it's not like the teacher is going to kick back and pour a glass at her desk) I think that the fact that you are wanting to acknowledge and thank this teacher is wonderful.

The Board recognizes that the misuse of drugs is a serious problem with legal, physical, and social implications for the whole school community.
As the educational institution of this community, the schools should strive to prevent drug abuse and help drug abusers by educational, rather than punitive, means.
For purposes of this policy, "drugs" shall mean:
A. all dangerous controlled substances as so designated and prohibited by Florida statute;
B. all chemicals which release toxic vapors;
C. all alcoholic beverages;
D. any prescription or patent drug, except those for which permission to use in school has been granted pursuant to Board policy;
E. anabolic steroids;
F. any substance that is a "look-alike" to any of the above.
The Board prohibits the use, possession, concealment, or distribution of any drug or any drug-related paraphernalia as the term is defined by law, or the misuse of a product containing a substance that can provide an intoxicating or mood-altering effect on school grounds ; on school vehicles; and at any school-sponsored event.
It further establishes a drug-free zone within 1000 feet of any facility used by the District for educational purposes
Maybe a better thing to do would be to give all the nutjob parents (you know- like the ones who think nose picking and eating is okay) a bottle of wine and then send the teacher a letter that for Christmas you decided to liquor up the crazies so they would leave her alone.![]()

I would consider it if I knew the teacher off school grounds and could give it to her that way.
I would be risking my child's suspension even if it was innocent as it wouldn't go unnoticed and likely the teacher being terminated as this is our district policy:
So likely--it isn't a question of appropriateness, but whether I'd want it on the 6:00 news.
Mockery aside--perfectly legal substance that is perfectly illegal on school grounds.
