Would you give up your seat on the Monorail?

This is taken from the would you give up your seat on the bus thread, only this time I am asking would you give up your seat on the Monorail? I personally don't care if I am standing or sitting because the Monorail ride is so fast that standing is not a big deal to me. There have been times when my family have moved over so more people could sit down & if I saw someone who needed to sit I would give up my seat.

We always give up seats to anyone with a sleeping child on their shoulder, elderly, or moms and very young children. I have been surprised at the number of young adults that do not do the same. I have made my own kids stand in order to allow someone that needs the seat more to sit. I always tell my girls that there is no excuse to be rude even if everyone else is doing it.

Many many times if DD and I are on the monorail during a busy time, or if some one gets on that clearly would benefit from the seat more than us! If we are headed into the park, we both will stand.... but sometimes after a long day if she is tired, she will sit and I will stand!

I've given up my seat often for anyone pregnant, disabled or just looked like the needed it badly for any reason.

I've given my seat up many times. If I see a mom or dad holding a child after a long, hot, sweaty day in Disney and I have my butt in a seat, I'm more than happy to give that seat away! God knows they need it more than I do!

I would love to give up my seat...as I used to do. That was before the triple fracture of the left leg. Now for me to stand would actually be more hazardous for the people around me as I stumble and fall into them!

In our limited monorail experiences we give up our seats. It is a much smoother ride than the bus, so even my 8yo dd can stand (on a bus, no way). DH and dd13 always stand on buses, so they does so on monrail as well. Same with DS6. For me, if people without apparent needs get on, I stay seated. If people who appear to need the seat get on, I get up (can't do it on a bus though). I don't know about dd3 yet...last year I put her in the seat by the window and stood in front of her, or wedged up against her sitting next to her if there were enough seats.

If we could afford 2 rooms at a monorail resort, we'd do that in a heartbeat!! The ride is much quieter and smoother, and we've not ever had a near-accident on the monorail, lol.

My DH ALWAYS ALWAYS gives up his seat! He also has a very bad knee. My 8 yr old DS has given up his seat several times for little ones and eldery people.

We think its the right thing to do on any kind of transportation.


We could NOT BELIEVE the number of young men that did NOT give up there seats when I was standing with our 2yr old trying to hold him so he wouldnt go flying on the bus! One guy in his 20s even got mad my 2 yr old bumped into his leg a few time when the bus stopped! I almost lost it on him but I was cool.


This is the reason we are driving this year. We just hated the bus experience. The monrail isnt as bad.

To the young men that didnt/wont give up your seats...
Your turn is coming! One day you'll have wives, kids and strollers to contend with. It will be your turn someday! Good luck...LOL

yes we have to keep small chidren with their parents or if we think someone else needs the seat.

Absolutely, everyone in my family will gladly give up there seat for someone who might need it.

Yes....we will and we have given up our seats, even on the plane to accomodate others...my kids always offer to let others sit, matter of fact, one trip I kept asking DS why he was so clingy and sitting on my lap for both the buses and monorail ( he was 9 at the time, not exactly tiny) I was thinking he was just lovin' being with his family, Disney magic and all... and he said "oh, it's just easier to make more room in the beginning than jumping on you later, plus then you can sit mom if I'm on you." So yes, we offer our seats, even when we are hot, tired, and inconvenienced....others have offered for me, it's just what you do...enywhere, not just WDW.

Yes, absolutely. When we had babies and toddlers I was always grateful when someone gave up their seat. It was never expected, always appreciated. Now it is our turn to return the favor.

Probably not. I'm not a meany or anything, but I have arthritis in my feet. I walk with constant pain in my feet. Standing in place is the worst. Standing in place while trying to balance my son Christian, is beyond reason. So i sit and he sits and other's give up their places for us.

But I used to give up my place and I've taught my two older children to hop up and give their seats to older people or handicapped individuals or pregnant women. They're very good about it.

Definitely! I was really surprised at how many people do not!!! An example is... our bus ride back to CSR one night. DH was holding our stuff and couldn't hold DS4 while standing on the bus. I can't hold him because I have a hernia and recent knee surgery. DS4 was falling asleep on his feet and crying for me to hold him. Out of desperation I finally told him and his brother (7) to just sit on the floor of the bus. That worked for a while, but DS4 soon fell asleep while sitting. His head was falling over and smacking on the seats beside him. I tried to lean him against my legs and brace his head with my foot. After I almost fell, a young man gave up his seat for us. I sat with his girlfriend holding DS4 with DS7 sitting on the floor beside me leaning on my seat. It wasn't a fun ride back. We were so thankful to that man for giving up his seat for us.

My family is very courteous regarding this issue. As a matter of fact, during our last visit of nine days during Spring Break...I don't think DH *ever* sat down on a bus ride. Even though our kids are older now, I still remember how difficult it was trying to hang on to them and all their gear while using the Disney transportation systems. I think most of us have "been there, done that" and have compassion for those that are currently in that stage of their lives.

Yes I would, If I feel someone needs a seat more than I, I have no problem letting them have it.
