Would you "flock" somebody or get "flocked" as a fundraiser ?

The flock party we saw was great, the flamingos were decorated with hats, ties, shirts, skirts and bling. It was awesome

Our church youth group did it and it was a huge success and they made a ton of money. Here are a few things they did that made it work.

-We live in the South where church families are close and most know each other.

-They only flocked church families.

-When they started, people would "sponsor" a flamingo. Basically they paid for the bird so there was no start up cost. They had like 75+ birds.

-The fund-raiser had a limited life span....like 6 months maybe. It does get old.

-You could buy flock insurance for like 20.00 and no one could flock you.

-You pay the group to flock whomever you want to. I'm thinking it was like 20.00 too, it's been a while.

-They would be removed in 3 days, or if you wanted instant removal, you would pay like 10.00 or something.

No one got upset and it was a lot of fun and made some money they used on a mission trip.

:thumbsup2 and all the bases covered!

I think the flocking fundraiser is a good idea. I actually just told my husband that it would be a cute fundraiser for our soccer club. Of course my debbie downer husband said what happens when someone has a sprinkler system and you puncture their water line!

I've been flocked before, it is a pretty cute idea really. I liked the pink flamingos, I wish I could have kept a pair of them though :rotfl: I have some by the back patio but they are soooo old and weather-worn.

A nice touch with the flocking is that they let you "suggest" who to get next, now THAT is funny.

Locally I heard it was all going well 'til somebody got mad about it and called the police on them. That just sounds so silly to get bent out of shape over it.

To the posters who think that anyone who has a different opinion on the subject is "silly" or "uptight" -

OP mentioned none of these "rules" in the original post. It was that a bunch of kids you don't know show up on your property, put flamingos everywhere, and request money to have them removed before the scheduled date. I have never seen this done in my area, so I had no context and it seemed very odd.

But the main thing is that someone else's opinion that flamingos are cute has no bearing on what I want to happen in my yard. I could have water lines, a realtor coming by to take pictures prior to listing a house, friends coming over for a party, or just sprayed the yard. For all my luck, the Google car would drive by right then, and when I want to sell my house next year, all people would see is a yard full of flamingos when they google the address.

Perhaps unlikely or tongue-in-cheek examples, but I could have all kinds of reasons for not wanting this done on my property (including just not wanting it done). Obviously in certain areas this fundraiser is a common occurence, but as I said, this doesn't happen where I live and might get a very different response. I appreciate OP's further clarification that a number is provided where someone would pick them up quickly.

Would people feel the same way if I paid a religious group to plaster someone's yard with pamphlets? Or to fundraise for a cause you don't believe in? To me it's more about the basic assumption that it's OK to actually be on and do something to someone's physical property like this - even if it's lighthearted and temporary.

Some posters dislike pizza sales, the "panhandlers" at the grocery story, etc. Ironic that IMO, this is the same thing wrapped in pink plastic. At least with the others I can just give a polite yes or no and go about my day - no harm, no "fowl" :rolleyes1.

I have never seen anyone "flocked" where I live, but I think it is the cutest thing and would love to have it done to me!!

The flocks can come visit me as long as they don't crow 24/7 and don't mind coyates visiting.
