Would you ever go in September???

We normally go during spring break and the first few weeks of June for Star Wars Weekends.

We are heading down mid/end of September.

Temp/Humidity wise, how is it compared to June?

It is lows crowds. It is also not fun weather. If you pick the wrong week, you also have to deal with love bugs. We've done it, and I wouldn't NOT do it, but if I had the option I would choose something else.

If you are not restricted on timing, I would go the week before Thanksgiving week (Nov 15-22nd). Sure the room rates are (slightly) cheaper in August, but the difference if you look is maybe $10-$15 a night. November weather is awesome, you get the Christmas decorations (Osborne Lights! Castle Icicle Lights!), and before the crowds get there on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (11/22 this year) you will have super-low crowds that week. You can even catch the free dining deal if you go that week, which you could also book for September. (Gotta book by 8/8/14.)

Come on you are on Buffalo, you should have a tough enough skin to deal with the luvebug:rotfl::rotfl: We have enjoyed plenty of late September trips but this year I am going solo the week of Thanksgiving like you suggested above. I will appreciate the cooler weather.

I'm going in late September, so I hope it won't be too bad. October would've been my preference, but there's a Food & Wine Festival event scheduled in September that I can't miss.

The F&W Festival is awesome. It's not so bad in late September. Get to the parks early and stay cool. Drinks lots of water or gatorade and try and fit in some a/c attractions.

The heat is tolerable if you play your cards right.

I went in September (tied to a business trip) and had a great time. Being from dry southern California, the humidity walking out of the airport was a definite shock. But after getting over the initial surprise, it became possible to accept the weather and the fact that you're just going to walk around with sunscreen, sweat, and damp clothes.

The most miserable part of the trip was probably the business part, where I had to wear a shirt and slacks. But even then, I had nothing to complain about. Because one particularly hot day, I saw a few WDW executives walking around the Magic Kingdom in full suits with jackets and ties. Now THAT would be a deal breaker if my job required that.

DH and I take our longest trip of the year in September, and it's by far our favorite time to go, so selfishly I want to say no, don't go! September is horrible! Stay in the safety of your homes! Say no to hurricanes! Say no to sweat! :rotfl:

But in reality, it's Florida. There's a tropical/subtropical climate there, which pretty much guarantees heat and humidity. From my experience as a FL resident, September isn't any more or less humid or hot than any month other than maybe December and a week or two in January when the cold front dips a little more south than usual. As far as "hurricane season" (aka, rainy season) being a good reason to not go... well, as another poster said, it is actually half a year long and that hasn't stopped people from going from June through August and having a perfectly good time. :confused3 But again, I like when the rest of the country has the wrong impression of hurricane season because it keeps our flights cheap now that we have to fly to WDW.

If heat and humidity are going to bother you in September, they'll also bother you in other months of the year. There's really no good time to visit FL if you're looking to escape the heat and humidity.

I also go in september. Did it in 2008 and 2012, will do it again this year ( 8-18 september). Didnt have long waiting lines my last two visits. Hope it will be the same this year. Looking forward to Fantasyland, missed that opening in 2012 with just a week.

Since it sounds like you won't be back for a long time, if at all, I'd go in November - but pick your week carefully. The Christmas decorations come out, the lights are up, and crowds are quite manageable. (Just stay away from t-giving week and Jersey week). November (and very start of Dec) is our favorite time to go. We're doing Sept this year due to getting a good rate on tickets. I'd rather not do Sept. I've never been in Sept but I live in the southeast. It's easy to work around low to moderate crowds for us, so we don't need the lowest possible crowds. But heat and thunderstorms will likely prove more challenging for us. However, it's Disney! And we've been before and we'll be back again so we figure we will find a way to deal, even if we get less done in a day than usual due to the weather.

That is completely not true.

The high temperature for everyday for the week we went November 11-19th, 2011: 66,73,78,81,82,84,81,75,78,82.

Humidity was 54%, 62, 73, 80, 87,81, 83,64,77%. That's one day that would qualify as "hot and humid".

Total rainfall: 0.07 inches. It rained one morning for about two hours. The rest was gorgeous sunny.

Same week November 10 to 20th, 2013:
High temps: 80,82,82,80,68,75,75,75,84,82 I'm not typing out the humidity but it was 60-75% every day, again, not high. We had one evening and another half of another day that were rainy, and one day that was COLD (the 68 day was really more like 58), but not a single hot day.

Meanwhile, the third week of September, 2013 was as follows:
Highs: 93, 91,91, 90,89,89,89,90,91. % Humidity ranging from 75 % to 90%. Now that's hot and humid

^^^^ Yep, all three of our Nov trips, both early Dec trips, all late Dec trips, and late Jan trip didn't have heat issues. (Minus one record warm day in there which we were able to deal with). We ran into cold issues in Jan, but it was 2010, a record cold winter. Even our end of May/start of June trip was fine - the humidity wasn't high yet those the temps had started to climb. (But early June is still a gamble - we could have easily had warmer weather).

September and October are my favorite times. It can be rather hot though.

We have a chance to take our 3 kids (ages 11, 9, 9) to WDW this year - but it will very likely be the only time we'll ever have this opportunity. So it will be our only time visiting.

That said, we are trying to figure out a good time to go. We are a homeschool family, and I would love to go when the crowds are at their least so that we can get as much out of this trip as we possibly can.

We are doing a lot of research on September, right after the schools start back up... but we are from WA state, and do not do well with extreme heat OR humidity. Is this going to make our trip miserable? I've read that this is a great time for low crowds and lower cost... but horrible for weather. :confused3

Any suggestions?

We are also a homeschool family, and took advantage of that last year to go in September. We were there the 2nd week of September (not the week of Labor day, but the week following).

Yes, it was hot. And AK is super humid, probably no matter when you go, honestly. But it did not keep us from having fun. We had a 6 & 2 year old, so we did rest/naps in our room every afternoon. That helped relieve a lot of the heat stress. By the time it got really hot, we were headed back to the resort for a while. Then, we'd get up and have dinner, and head back to the park/spend the evenings in the relatively cooler weather. We had a blast and would definitely go in September again.

If cooler weather is really important, try November, or even January or February. But if September is your only chance to go, I say go!

My response as a whole was somewhat cheeky, but I do stand by that comment.

I come from the perspective of living in South Florida year round, even though I'm out of state for grad school right now. Nothing makes me laugh harder than people who come to Florida and complain about the weather. Or they'll say something like "oh, I didn't expect it to be this hot/humid in December!" It's Florida. :confused3 75 with humidity can be oppressive to someone who doesn't live in this year round.

You can get a good idea of what's to come based on annual averages, but there's always unseasonable weather to contend with. There's always the chance that you'll get an off week, despite how well you plan your trip to avoid extreme weather.

Well, but that's the case wherever you go. We have dismal weeks in the Northeast in the summer (sort of like this one right now). But if I'm looking for a nice weather vacation in New England, I'm not going in December - April.

Florida is the opposite - if I want to avoid the hot humid weather, I'm skipping out on June - September. Don't get me wrong, we've done Florida in August/September and had fun, and will be doing it again next August/September because that's when we can go. But if you said I could pick one or the other, I would choose November.

Our first trip was in September 2011. We went more towards the beginning of the month.

We will not do a September trip again, just due to the weather. We did get to ride pretty much everything we wanted, lines were short or no existent.

But, I almost passed out in AK on our first day. Highs were over 90 and the humidity was horrible. I live in Indiana, I am used to humidity but this was bad.

If you do decide to go maybe think about taking a mid day break when you get too hot. We tried to be back in the rooms or at the pool by 1 pm, and would head back out to the parks for dinner around 5 or 6. Even with a break we were able to fit just about everything in.
