Would you ever go in September???

We were at WDW September 2012for a week late in the month. It was hot & humid, rained (heavily but briefly) 3 days of our 8 day stay. We had a great trip! You just have to be flexible in your vacation style. We wouldn't do 10/12 hour days in the parks without a mid day break, we came back to the Resort (POR) and swam or just relaxed in air conditioned areas of the hotel for a few hours. Then back to the parks late in the day.

We enjoyed the very low crowd levels., never waited more then 10 minutes for rides or attractions. Would we go again in September? Probably.

This year we are going the last week in August. (clearly I am a glutton for heat & humidity punishment! lol! ;) )

We went in September last year. It rained one afternoon and then most of the day our last day. It can rain anytime of the year. Florida is unpredictable. As for the humidity, it was really humid. I want to note that I am a BIG baby in the heat. My son and I were able to tolerate it. Lots of shaded areas, air conditioned queues, etc. DO NOT WORRY. We enjoyed the low crowds so much that we did a bounce back offer and are going again in 52 days :) Not sure what the crowds will be like this time since they moved the International Wine & Food up one week. Now we are going during IW&F. Oh well. No matter what.... rain, humidity, possible crowds.... being at Disney is 1,000,000 times better than being at work or at he doing daily errands/chores!!!!

I'm not saying you can't go in September and have a good time.

But, I'm suggesting the OP has a choice because there kids are homeschooled. Price the cost difference between September and mid-November, and if the difference is more than $200, I will be surprised. September is either going to have lousy weather (hazy hot and rainy) or REALLY lousy weather (Hurricane).

We've gone mid/late October and November a total of 5 times, and have had a TOTAL of 5 rainy days spread across 40 days of travel. Probably 30 of those 20 days were near-perfect park conditions (70-82 degrees, low humidity).

We've gone August/September twice for about 20 days. Of those days, 2 of them it did not rain. None of them were "nice". I can't really tell you the crowds were lower in September, since we never wait in lines on our trips, because the crowds are always low.

I'm just saying, the crowd/price difference is marginal. You can get free dining both times of year. The weather difference is HUGE. I wouldn't choose September over mid-November unless I didn't have an option. In our case, our DD is entering middle school, and we feel we can no longer pull her out of school for a week, so next year we are going for the week before labor day. I don't have a choice. The OP does.

We only go in September...the prices can't be beat. The lines are much shorter (or so I hear, since I only go in September!). The first time we went, it rained 3 days, heavily, for the week. We put on our ponchos and did it anyway....half the stuff is indoors anyway.

It IS hot. But I'm Canadian, and I can handle it. And if a Canadian can handle it, well...

Just bring water and hats. Always hats.

Late September is a great time to go. The food and wine festival has started and the Halloween Party is going on at MK. The lines are short, the weather is usually OK, and the prices are cheaper.

We are going this September - 50 days to go! It will be our first September and expect it to be hot, Frog Toggs at the ready! The deciding factor for us was free dining, with 5 of us it's a huge savings. Perhaps the hot Florida weather will help me appreciate our Colorado winter :)

We loved it when we went in September. That was I believe our 17 day trip. The weather was hot but certainly bareable. Very low crowds. Early enough in the school year that the kids didn't miss a lot.

Really a great time to go for us!!

We went to Disney ONCE in September (and the last week of the month, which I would think is better than the beginning). NEVER AGAIN. The humidity was suffocating to us and we were miserably hot the entire trip. After that, no matter what, we refuse to return in September.

I love in Georgia and we are going in September and I couldn't be happier!! The "humidity" in Florida is so much less than Georgia, so we will be accustomed to it. As for the crowds, I have heard they are much less than in the peak times of the year. So exited!!! (And my birthday is in September)

We're going in September too - hoping for low crowds, expecting weather to be hot and humid. But, it gave me a good excuse to buy some cute sundresses to wear in the parks!! :)

It is much less crowded, and Sept is a much nicer time to go, we go every year. However it is hot as heck, and humid as heck. Maybe wait until October, or even the first week of December if you'd like to do the Xmas stuff.

MN girl here and we are going in Sept! We also homeschool. I've heard that the humidity in FL is different than the humidity in MN.... different in that ours is worse???

We can't wait! My oldest daughter's only concern was that it was peak hurricane season so we are just praying that it won't affect our trip! Free Dining and low crowds were our reasons. :goodvibes

One time we arrived just after one hit and left right before another one hit. In 2008 we had to fly out a day early due to Hurricane Ike. Disney would not let us on the magical express because our tickets were for the next day. We explained that we had to fly out a day early due to the hurricane they would not budge. I was furious. We stayed at rhe Swan for 1 night and Disney would not transport us. Even though we has round trip Magical Express vouchers. I will not go again in Sept.

That sucks! I was thinking....I have probably taken DME at least 20 times and I've NEVER experienced a full bus, especially from the resort to the airport.

I'm going to agree with others that say "no" to September. If your main concern is heat/humidity, then September is one of the very WORST months to go.

You are pretty much guaranteed to have temps in the 90s and humidity in the "wrap yourself in a wet towel" feel all month. Hurricane season is at its apex, so the likelihood for storms is at a high for the year. You will have to contend with rain- Orlando averages 13 rainy days in September, almost half of the month. It might not rain all day or every day, but rain is rain and it is no fun on vacation.

Yes, prices are at their lowest levels and crowds are low (but not as low as on the past). But if the weather is so cruddy that your trip is negatively impacted, you would be better served paying a little more for another time when you won't wilt in the heat.

I highly, highly recommend November, excluding Thanksgiving week. Crowds are just about as low as September. Prices are a bit higher, but not enough to make much of an impact. Free Dining is offered most of November, so you can save $$ that way. And the weather is MUCH more pleasant. Highs around 80, lows in the mid 60s with much lower humidity than September. Daytime is great swimming weather. Much less chance of rain. Technically still hurricane season, but chances are very, very slim of a storm hitting.

Another plus- Christmas decorations and activities throughout the parks starting around the 8th or so. WDW does the holidays right! Epcot has their Food & Wine festival through the second weekend of the month- very fun.

Since this might be a once in a lifetime trip, you have flexibility due to homeschooling, you would really like to avoid heat/humidity, and you want low crowds, I definitely think November would be your best bet.

We have a chance to take our 3 kids (ages 11, 9, 9) to WDW this year - but it will very likely be the only time we'll ever have this opportunity. So it will be our only time visiting.

That said, we are trying to figure out a good time to go. We are a homeschool family, and I would love to go when the crowds are at their least so that we can get as much out of this trip as we possibly can.

We are doing a lot of research on September, right after the schools start back up... but we are from WA state, and do not do well with extreme heat OR humidity. Is this going to make our trip miserable? I've read that this is a great time for low crowds and lower cost... but horrible for weather. :confused3

Any suggestions?

I've got my 4th September trip planned. I live in Georgia so the heat and himudity doesn't bug me too much. By Sept. I'm used to it.
The crowds are great that time of year. I have had 2 trips in September that were very rainy as well as hot and humid. I still had fun though.

But if you don't like heat and humidity, you may want to skip it this year and plan for another time of year like Nov. through March when it's not hot and humid.

Dallas airport was shutting down at 9:30am and we flew out at 7:30 am. Scariest flight I have ever been on. When we finally got to Orlando I thought the problems were behind us. I was wrong. When trying to board the Magical Express I was told we could not because we had booked that night at the Swan and they did not participate in the ME. I explained that we had a package that started the next day and we had ME roundtrip vouchers they still would not budge. After arguing for an hour and calling Disney we had to rent a town car at our own expense. I was furious. I will not go back in September because both of our trips have been threatened by Hurricanes.

We went once in September and I was miserable. It was HOT and there we're love bugs everywhere. We usually go in October. It's a little cooler than September, the crowds are still pretty light, and we can go to the Halloween party (which is awesome!). Whenever you decide to go, I hope you have a great time! :mickeyjum:donald::goofy:

We always go the week of our Anniversary (September 15). Crowds are very low but the weather is still hot and humid. But we don't mind since we live in the mid-west and it starts getting cool in September. It usually rains but nothing we can't handle. Last year was the first time out of 6 trips that it actually rained almost the whole day. Usually it's just a quick downpour.

we'd gone in september twice - the humidity, love bugs and rain sealed the "never again" deal for that month

but on the positive side, the parks were practically deserted the entire time - low to non-existant crowds early in the morning - the photos of us in an empty EP were funny to see!

I have been several times in late September to take advantage of value rates and the beginning of Halloween decorations and the MNSSHP. I never felt the temperatures were too hot or humid but I always made my trip the last week in September / First week in October. I will say the crowds are insanely low and many rides are walk-ons all day long so you aren't stuck baking in the sweltering heat standing in a line.

If you think heat and humidity will ruin your trip then you may need to consider another time. I know it's a complaint from many.
