We are booked up for our xmas trip going at the end of Novemeber and i havent yet booked the train, we were planning on driving but i am having second thoughts as it snowed really badly the last time we went at xmas time and although i enjoy the drive (have only ever driven in the summer time), it does really knacker me out and i dont know how i would feel dirivng in bad weather. What would you do?? Eurostar or Drive, we live near heathrow airport so normally get a cab into london, but i am thinking with a toddler that we would probably be better to drive to ashford and get the eurostar from there. or do you think if we are driving to ashford anyway we might as well keep going?

If its the weather you're worried about (ie services being cancelled etc) I'd choose to drive over the Eurostar - there are members on this forum who had awful experiences with Eurostar when the bad weather hit last December. At least if you're driving, you'll have supplies etc in the car with you. Have a contingency plan (ie keep a bit of money aside for a hotel if you need it in case of tunnel/ferry cancellations due to bad weather) and then plan your trip as normal :).

We're driving on 20th December, returning 23rd (hopefully we'll make it back for Christmas ;) ) DH prefers to be in control, hence the drive, and hopefully after last year's disaster they'll be better prepared this year. We're packing a snow shovel (bought last year so we could get out of our house!!), blankets, spare food and drink, something to use as a portable toilet (gather the loos were the biggest problem when the trains got stuck in the tunnel last year!)........ just as well we've got a big car! Going on the theory that if we take all that we wont need it, but I'd rather be prepared. I'm sure going in November it'll be absolutely fine, but if it makes you feel better, pack for an Artic expedition like me!!

Definitely drive - we went last year on the saturday morning when the eurostars had got stuck on the friday night. After 5 hours in the ashford terminal where it was snowing very hard outside we finally boarded a train and eventually made it out the other side where there was a lot more snow but the main motoroways A26 and A1 were completely clear.
