Would you/do you let your DD wear these (inspired by words on the pants)

That wasn't the only "problem" I had with that mom. The poor baby spent all day in a porta crib by the complex's pool while mom worked on her leather coat (LOL that was the joke around the apartments, she was so "tanned" that she looked like leather). when enough people complained (we didn't) management asked her to stop. Her solution was to lay out in the sun infront of her apartment, with her DD inside.

No problem at all with that bikini my 7 year old has one similar to it you will find when looking for suits for kids they are now going with what is trendy and that is trandy now and in alot of bathing suit shops is all you will find.

Also, I think 9 is too young to shave legs.. 9 years old - that's the 4TH GRADE!
I'm with you in your thinking. And if we're "old fashioned", than I wish more parents would be, too!

These days many of those 4th grade 9 yr old girls are already having periods (that means wearing grown up protection) and their breasts having starting growing. Should they not wear bra's either because they are to young?? I just dont understand the reasoning. Why make them go around with hairy legs and be embarrassed or perhaps have kids make fun of them because they are 9 instead of 10 or 11 or 12 or whatever that number for you should be?

I started shaving in 4th grade. Why? Because I had DARK hairy legs and DARK hairy underarms. I also started tweezing my eyebrows. Why? Because I had ONE dark thick, bushy one. I also had a mustache that my Mom taught me how to take care of.

That summer I also hit puberty. I was 9. Everything that happens to a girl happened to me that summer.

I wouldn't hesitate to do the same for my DD because I know what it is like to be self conscious about those things.

You both raise a good point that hadn't even crossed my mind. As the late developer that I was (age 14 or so) I wasn't thinking of girls that hit puberty at that young age. I was talking about girls that are still "little girls". I have seen too many "little girls" dressing like adults, and these are who I was thinking of when I made the comments I made.

Trying not to

My sons like to wear "flip flops" but back in the day they were thongs and I still call them that. You should see the looks I get from the boys when I ask them about thier thongs  :teeth:

Cassi--I can see your point there. I was a fairly late bloomer too but I had a friend in elementary school that wore about a c cup in 4th or 5th grade. Poor girl, her ****s were huge.
I dont agree with all the girly clothing I see around. Some of it is way to revealing.

has a 9 year old, and went Bathing suit shopping for her last week. She was AMAZED at the design of swimsuits for 9-14 years of age---she WOULD NOT let her buy ANYTHING that remotely showed too much!::yes:: She almost bought her a one peice, but, finally found something that covered her.

I have a daughter that is 10 and in the 5th grade. She has just now started shaving her legs (actually using Veet) because she had VERY hairy legs. She was very self conscious about it and was beginning to get teased by her friends. She is also beginning to develop at such an early age. I really wish I could keep her a little girl but reality is...I can't.

As for the Limited Too swimsuit, I did purchase one for her this year. The bottoms of the swimsuit are not what I'd call string. They are bikini style but have a two strings on the side that tie in a knot. Does that make sense? Anyway, it does make the sides skinner but not what I'd classify a string bikini. The top, however, is just as described. Two triangles on a string, BUT, the triangles do not slide. They are stitched in place.

I totally agree with shaving if a child has hit puberty. My cousins little girl has not hit puberty, my cousin just thinks it's cute that she acts so grown up. I just think - that day will come soon enough, let her be a little girl. My cousins little girl has her own electric razor & everyday (when @ the beach) must shave her legs before going out.

My almost 7 year-old wears mostly two-piece swim suits. She pretty much has to because she is very long in the body and most one-piece suits leave her rear hanging out. If I get them to fit in the body length, they're too baggy.
But, she would NEVER be allowed to wear a string bikini or even one like the picture that was posted. She wears the tankini style suits or the bottom with the halter style top. These are the styles she prefers also, she rejects some two-piece suits because she says too much of her belly shows. I agree kids grow up too fast these days as it is, why rush it as a parent?

either of the 2 swimsuits bother me. When my daughter was 1 I got her a bikini. The top was a strawbwerry on each side and strings. Very cute.

ooohh, no! You're not old-fashioned, just sensible! I'd never allow DD's, 8 and 10 to wear anything remotely "sexy" (which includes words on the rear...I didn't post on that thread!) They have 2-piece suits that are those mid-torso tanks and either modest bottems or skirts. They actually prefer one-piece suits.

About shaving...DD will be 11 in winter. I've told her that she may ask to shave when she's ready once shorts season starts up next spring. She dances and has dark thick hair...it pokes through the tights and looks icky. Plus she'll be in middle school next year and dressing out for gym - I've heard most girls shave by then anyway. Now the bra issue...she doesn't need one yet, but refuses to wear one and cries when I ask her to with white shirts. I don't know what I'm gonna do when she does need one!

No Way No How would I let my 9 year old wear that kind of stuff. Thong or string bikini underwear are for adults. Not sure why a child needs to wear them. And the shorts with the writing on the bottom is only asking for attention.

I'm the odd one out here, but I don't see anything wrong with the bathing suit posted. My dd10 has tons of them and the little tankini ones. I think there all cute and IMHO are not sexy on a 10 yr. old little girl. If this is what the stores are selling, are cute, good quality and my dd wants one I don't see anything wrong with it. At this age my dd has no idea of what "being sexy" means. She just knows that she likes the style, is comfortable in it and if she needs it, she'll get it. Sometimes, some of the style might be to grown up for her, and if it looks that way to me, then I won't get it. She wears a size 6 1/2 womens shoe. Its totally impossible to go and find a childs shoe in this adult size. It left me no choice but to get her a pair of adult maryjane shoes, with a flat heel, of course. As for shaving her legs, my dd has dark hair and hairy legs. She was very uncomfortable and commented on them all the time. I didn't shave them, because I didn't want it to grow back nubby, but, I did use nair on them. To me this is no big deal, and if it would make her alittle happier and less self conscience, why not. And I also did nair under her arms, because that to me, should be taken care of at any age.

dg39 I agree that bikini shown is not a bad one at all and my 3 year ols and my 7 year old both have similar ones to that they are very cute.

My DD turned 9 this summer. When we go shopping I make the final decision on what I am buying. "As long as I am paying for them I get to choose." Limited 2 has not been one of my favorite stores up to now since I don't like the quality of their products and I did not like the fact that they are selling 6-17 year olds the same exact products. I don't think there are enough clothing choices and designs for girls 6x to 11. They are either two childish or to grownups. We hardly have any problem with swim suite. We order speedos tank tops and bottoms. As for shaving, If my DD had dark hairy legs I would be the first person making an appointment for laser hair removal. I volunteer a lot in school and I am shocked with what children do and know at how they behave at certain ages. I blame it on media to a point. I also think many parents are working so hard trying to be their children friend that they forgot how to be a parent.

No, I wouldn't allow DD to wear that bathing suit. Most of hers (she's 10) are 1 piece but she has a long tankini style. No belly show-ers here. Plus, that is one more place to apply sunscreen. DD won't enter the Limited Two so that's not even a temptation. LOL
She began shaving her legs this summer even though she has blonde leg hair that was fine. It bothered her and I figured if she was ready, why not. I had her purchase her own razor with her $ though.
Gina2000, so far she shaves them like every other day or so--so far, she's sticking with it!
As for bras, she's been wearing one since fall of 4th grade. She played basketball and HAD to have a sports bra. She loves them.
Other than that, she's still a little girl who wears very modest clothing--so far, it just isn't an issue. And I'm thankful every day for that!!:teeth:

When I was ten I wore a cute little hot pink bikini. That was, um, 31 years ago (eek!)

I didn't shave till I was eleven but believe me, I probably should have started at nine :D .

That said, I'm glad I have all boys and don't have to worry about stuff like this!

My Mom had fits when I bought my girls 2 piece suits when they were little. I said I would rather they wore them when they had nothing to "show". My Mom then told me there are lots of perverts out there that like to look at little girls with almost nothing on....I never saw it that way, so from that day on they wore 1 pc suits. Now they wear 2 pc..but at their ages they don't want to listen to me anymore.

And my 11 yr old started shaving at 9...she was very hairy....she is now 5'1" entering 6th grade and is developing way too fast for me.
