Would you do a studio or deluxe room?

january stay....thinking of deluxe room at either poly, contemporary or boardwalk or studio via points from friend....will have 6 and 4 year old boys and 5 month old also. DH also considered using Marriott points and staying at harbour lake and staying longer up then we have to rent a car, etc.....

A family of 5 would be tight sleeping in a studio IMO.

I agree - only OKW with 2 queen beds instead of 1 queen bed and a double sleeper sofa - would work for me.

that say Polyn and CR have the same setup - 2 queen beds plus a day bed (really a twin bed at least)

might go with Marriott - it would be alot cheaper - that say would go with Marriott Cypress harbour

with the Marriott you get a complete kitchen (they are 2-bedrooms mostly) - with a studio you only get a kitchennett.

of course that say with a little one would want to be as close as possible to the MK - so would consider BLT but with your size family would go for a 1-bedroom (they are BIG)

I would go for the studio. There really isn't a size difference between the studios and deluxe rooms. With the studio, you'll have a microwave and an under the counter fridge. As far as staying at the off site property to stay longer, I guess it would depend on how much longer and what is the cost savings? Once you rent a car and pay for parking each day, that will eat up some of the cost savings.

If you have the opportunity to rent points from a friend, do they have enough for you to get a one bedroom at one of the resorts. That would be your be best since you would have a large bedroom, two room bathroom, full kitchen for quick breakfasts/snacks/drinks, a living area and a washer/dryer. You would also be able to put the kids to bed and still have room for yourselves.

Considering the size of your family and the ages of your children, i would stay in a deluxe room in the MK area because of location and size of room. I have stayed in a studio room twice - akv and bc. There was sufficient room for the 4 of us but storage was a little lacking. Im not sure which studio rooms you are considering but BLT studio rooms would most likely be too small for a family of five.

From my perspective, as far as BCV and AKV is concerned, i would choose a deluxe room in the BC resort or a deluxe room at AK Lodge over a studio room because at both of these resorts i would be closer to the action or restuarants and have two beds verses a bed and a sleeper sofa. But thats just my personal preference.

I agree with Spiceycat, the only resort I'd recommend for a studio for your group is OKW - the rooms have two queen beds and plenty of space for the pack-n-play. All other DVC studios have a queen bed and a sofa bed. When the sofa bed is open, there's very little room to move around - nearly the entire area between the balcony door and the bed is taken up by the sofa bed. The pack n play would have to go over by the door, or in front of the bathroom.

Poly because of
1. 2 queens plus the daybed (and you can get a cub for the baby)
2. Proximity to MK and monorail and TTC
3. Zero entry pool (great for 4 and 6 yr olds)
4. Beach (ditto)
5. Overall poly theming and experience is outstanding!

I don't have all the dimensions handy, but some of the studios are noticeably smaller than some of the deluxe rooms. I think OKW studios are the largest at about 390 square feet, but the BLT studios are closer to 350 square feet.

The Poly and Contempoary rooms are among the largest on property, and I think they are closer to 450 square feet. I'm sure someone will come along with the actual dimensions.

OP, I would go for the Poly or Contemporary with three small kids. The larger rooms will be useful if you need to park a stroller, and the monorail access to MK and Epcot would be very beneficial. You can also watch the MK fireworks from the Poly or CR if you don't want to be in the crowds with the kids. You won't have a microwave, but you will still have a refrigerator.

Never a BLT studio with five. Never. It is the smallest of all the studios and when the double sized sleeper sofa is opened up, there is almost no room between the bed and the sleeper sofa (and none between the sofa and the window). Then there is very little space for the pack and play. Most of the vacant space is in the hallway from the outside corridor and the main room.

If you wanted a studio, OKW would be my choice because of the two queen beds and plenty of room for the pack and play. Plus the bathroom is so much larger than the other studios.

Otherwise, I'd go with the hotel room because of the two queen bed and possibly the day bed as well.

We are a family of 5 & we will be staying a AOA in a cars suite.

We would not do well with all 5 of us in one room for longer than 1 night

We had a blast in a bunk bed room at Wilderness Lodge. We had kids ages 9, 7 & 17mos.

I don't think the room is actually larger, but it has 1 queen-sized bed and a set of twin bunks (which naturally take less floor space than another queen). That said, we didn't use a pack'n'play for the baby, nor did we use a stroller . . . so we didn't have those things taking up floor space in the room, either.

We stayed for 8 nights and had absolutely no problem with the amount of space. We also only packed for half the time, then did laundry (planning for which ended up being excellent, since the baby got sick while we were there and laundry was a must).

I guess I tend to pack very intentionally: I want to be prepared for most eventualities, but also don't like to overpack. Since we took a plane this time, I also didn't pack as much as I might have otherwise to economize on baggage.

I hope that helps :)

Just to clarify - are you comparing a DVC studio to a standard room in a Deluxe Resort, or a DVC stuido to a Deluxe Room category, in a Dluxe Resort? There is a booking category of Deluxe Room at BWI, BC, YC & WL (possibly at others but I've never looked into them)...that category is a MUCH larger room, but it also costs a lot more, and they are all Club Level. These rooms all have 2 queens plus a daybed or sofa bed, guaranteed. They have a lot of space in them, plenty for a pack-n-play.

I'm thinking you mean a standard room in a Deluxe Resort. I think the only standards in Deluxes that guarantee the daybed are Poly & CR - in the others it might only be a request. Someone chime in if there are others.

I've stayed in a studio, in a standard room at a Deluxe, and in a Deluxe Room at a Deluxe. If cost is not an option definitely go for the Deluxe Room, or even a 1BR villas as others have suggested. A studio is going to be tight with the pack-n-play, and everyone will have to be quiet all in the same room if the baby is sleeping. A standard Deluxe room without a daybed will also be tight.

If you go with Poly request one of the longhouses with larger standard rooms, I know Tokelau is one of them. They have extra floor space which is nice.

:rotfl: I know I'm sounding like a Fort Fiend lately :rotfl: but have you considered the cabin at Fort Wilderness. There is a bedroom, full kitchen and murphy bed in the living room. The young ones can have the bedroom and you and DH can take the Murphy bed with the little on in a pack-n-play. You'll have a full kitchen, a deck and a whole resort with a ton of stuff to do. Your access to MK is just a boat ride away and may take as long as a monorail, depending on where your room is located.

The Fort has so much to do that your little ones can have fun while the baby naps, too.

Otherwise, I think a 1BR Deluxe villa would be the way to do for the space you need.
