Would you do a 7-day Caribbean in June? Worried about weather...

Hi! We just returned from a great 3-night trip on the Wish!! Unfortunately the ship had some issues and we were given a discount for 20% off a future cruise, which we combined with the 10% onboard placeholder reservation. We are SO excited at the opportunity to book another Disney Cruise at 30% off!!! This will be our 3rd cruise and we have only done 3-night cruises before so looking for at least a 4, but ideally a 7! Hoping to go in 2024.

It's getting tougher to take the kids out of school so we were kind of thinking either the June 17 (Western Caribbean) or June 24 (Eastern Caribbean) sailings on the Fantasy. We don't have a strong preference for one or the other, but kids seem to like the idea of Cozumel most. But I am worried that the weather will be rainy. Can anyone comment on how bad it could be? Is it like rain all day type of weather, or just an afternoon downpour? While I can certainly be ok with a little rain, I would be really disappointed if multiple things were canceled.

If we do not do this itinerary, we are looking at either a 4-night on the Wish that we can probably make work in April, but that's not as exciting as a 7 night cruise. We also considered European itineraries in the summer, but for financial reasons we are leaning towards sticking to an East-coast departure.

Firstly, I was also on that Wish sailing. Secondly, the Fantasy is my favorite ship so I highly recommend it. I've not done the Western Caribbean itinerary, but love the Eastern Caribbean itineraries on the Fantasy. I highly recommend a 7-night; the extra days really let you 'settle' into the cruise and the sea days are great!

I can't comment specifically on June weather, but a lot of times in the Caribbean it is a brief (sometimes strong) storm that blows over. Of course weather is unpredictable, but if excursions get canceled there's plenty to do on the ship, too.

I did the eastern last June. We didn’t have any rain but St Thomas was pretty overcast. It was hot and sunny in Tortola.

You can never predict the weather so just book the cruise and have an amazing time regardless! I’ve done a cruise in December where it rained in alll three ports and had a great time.

We did the Fantasy in June of 2019, and I don't recall any issues with rain, but of course, you never know. Fantasy is my favorite ship also. Definitely do a 7 day.

It's not typically a problem for cruises. Tropical rain are generally pop up showers that move pretty quickly. When there are larger systems, the cruise will alter course to avoid them. Some days it rains, but you can't predict it enough for it to really make much difference. It is generally too early for any larger hurricanes or tropical storms but it could happen. We cruise in June alot and have not had anything significant cancelled. It is more likely that a tour operator will cancel than rain being the cause. It is usually a better time to go to Castaway too, as the currents aren't as strong.

We did 6/18-6/25 western fantasy last year. Only rained in Cozumel. Downpour around noon, then cloudy in the afternoon. Perfect day at castaway and the other islands.

A rule of cruising is you can’t predict the weather and you aren’t guaranteed to get to your port, excursion….

(Edit: ignore this - answered in next post. Are you allowed to use the 20% + the Placeholder discounts together? Unless it is in writing, I would give DCL a call and confirm before making a decision.)

Other than that, a 7-night Fantasy is a great idea. Have fun!

Yes, you can. It's been widely confirmed by those on our sailing that you can 'stack' the 20%+10% placeholder.

The best part is the 20% can be use on Concierge (which is how I used my 20%, on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean Concierge this November)!

Agree can’t predict weather and they sail around fronts if they are able. We have done Fantasy eastern (sept 22) and western (may 23) and both have nice itineraries. Also one more island (and one less sea day) for western if that matters to you. I probably prefer eastern but you will have great time on both. Jamaica is an iffy port but fine if you do Disney port adventure. Cayman also used tenders which adds to time and weather may affect that more.

You are literally talking about 1 week difference here. The weather is going to be what it is at that point, despite the week. I would focus on itenerary and perhaps price (bang for buck) given the discount. Many here have done both. I would ask myself where would I rather go if I only did this ONE 7 day trip. I can tell you that Falmouth is one of my absolute least fav stops of all and that is on the Western. Eastern is my fav. As far as what the kids like….what are they planning to do in Cozumel? (excursions planned?) I want to hit Tortola on the Eastern but have yet to get back on one. So I’d look at the ports, excursions, if any, etc. So again, weather likely won’t be the deciding factor. Good luck, you’ll enjoy either to be honest!

While I have not sailed in June, Iido cruise just about every July or August. If my work schedule permitted, I would absolutely go in June.

I want to hit Tortola on the Eastern but have yet to get back on one.

I've done both the St. Maarten/San Juan and St. Thomas/Tortola Eastern Caribbean itineraries, and Tortola is my favorite port of the four.

It IS the Western itinerary.. I would have personally picked Eastern but I left it up to the kids and they were more excited about the prospect of "Mexico" and "Jamaica" over some islands they haven't really heard of. I figure we are newbies so we might as well just pick one... if nothing else it will give us a basis to compare future cruises to! I will definitely need port excursion help to hopefully make the most of Falmouth!!!

I am just SO EXCITED I could burst. I wish it wasn't a year away, ha! We have been to WDW every year, sometimes multiple times, for the past 10 years and I am kind of over it. I hate to say that because it will always be my "home", but the cruise was so special because it was pretty much all new experiences for us. That made it magical!!! Even with the technical difficulties that prevented us from going to Castaway, we had the best time. So looking forward to 7 whole days and nights!!!

We did that itinerary last spring break - we weren’t able to dock in Jamaica - I was bummed! We leave for an Eastern Caribbean in just over a week. I’m looking forward to the sea days and new (to us) ports. We had a blast in Cozumel - did a tour of a historic site, had great chocolate, and time at the beach. In Grand Cayman we did a dolphin swim and that was great too. Of course our excursion in Jamaica was canceled - so I am hoping we get to try the Eastern Caribbean itinerary again - maybe in 2024. Enjoy your cruise! It will be so amazing!

It's compensation for the Wish cruise a couple weeks ago that had mechanical issues on Nassau day.

For Jamaica we did the river tube and Good Hope Estate and I thought it was decent and fairly well run. It’s by no means rapids more like a lazy river and you have spots to jump in if you wish. Good Hope Estate has pools with waterfalls, a long waterslide, plus they have food available for purchase. Cayman we did Stingray City and snorkel which was run by Red Sail. Very well done tour and good guides.

We did 4 nights at WDW followed by a 7-night Western Caribbean on the Fantasy June 2019. It was very hot, and when I say hot, I mean HOT. But the seas were very calm and the only day we really had any rain was in the afternoon of our Castaway Cay day. Would I personally do a cruise from June-Aug (WDW as well)? No. After multiple trips in the summer, I'm done. But I'm not going to recommend someone not to go either. We still had a great time and I'm sure the OP will as well if they decide to go in June.
