Would you consider FW 44 with a Feb UY?

Kind of wary of a FW after my banking deadline, but really never cancel vacations last minute.

Also, if I cancel my FW booking right away or even before it books, I'm still well before my deadline right?

This is my FW so I am a bit biased…but still…I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a Feb UY.

We also *never* cancel vacations but had a super close call last year with a DVC rental - we all came down with the flu a week before. Thankfully we got the green light from our doctor to go the morning we were supposed to leave but after that, I vowed no more DVC rentals.

I guess in theory if you needed to cancel and had a little more notice, you could always rent it as a confirmed reservation since it’s definitely a popular week.

And yes - if you canceled it in advance, you’d be well before your deadline.

(I REALLY wanted this week, and ended up with a second UY. I’ve made peace with it since we travel so often - it’s nice knowing we have the whole year covered 🙂)

Where are you thinking? Poly? Riv?

When would you travel if you don't use your FW?

No, I wouldn't, but I have an Oct UY with my FW41 which works out great for our normal travel plans that try to avoid the hottest months.

FW44 is late Oct / early Nov. Even if you canceled 30+ days before the trip so the points don't go into holding, that is very close to the banking deadline of Sep 30 for a Feb UY.

Regardless of the UY, they create your FW reservation ~12 months in advance, so there is plenty of time to change your plans and do something else with your points.

I guess what I'm thinking is, how is having a FW in October different from just vacationing in October or November (which I do all the time)? Since my kids are in school, I would not be using this week for a while probably, so would cancel the booking or using the points another time virtually every year.

So they would just function as regular points for a good while.

Also, I'm thinking cancelling due to illness is going to happen inside of 30 days all the time anyway, so the points would go into holding regardless of UY or banking deadline.

I'm thinking RIV. Poly is too rich for my blood since I would want a theme park view, whereas at RIV a standard view is great. But, I"m also contemplating just 100 points at either RIV or PIT.

With a February UY, and the holding points rule, you would need to cancel 31 days or more ahead of time to avoid that, so wouldn’t that put you still within September?

Yes, I'm thinking of a FW week 44.

See below :)

If you already stay in Oct/Nov with your normal points, then I agree - this would be no different.

And since it’s Riv, do it! We’ll be FW neighbors 🤣 (Although similarly, I don’t foresee myself using it for awhile).

Yay to FW neighbors!

Do folks really only travel within a few months of their UY? I travel all year without a second thought about it!

Yes, sometimes life throws us curveballs, and points will go into holding. But I think you'd want as much time as you could to try and make a new reservation with points in holding. If points go into holding near the end of your UY vs. near the beginning of your UY, well, hopefully it isn't a scenario that happens often.

Oh, I see your point. Yes, that's why I think it should be doable?

I do…now granted, if you do have to cancel last minute, the time to use up the holding points is shorter, but if you find that more years than not you would not be using it, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Yes, good point there. I think I would be ok if I had to re-book Nov through Jan.

FW 7 at RIV is also a consideration.
FW7 and FW44 are both in the 153 point sweet spot for a standard studio.

I was debating between FW7 with my Dec UY or FW44 with June. FW7 is a win with the point rebalance…44 not so much but I just love that time of year. Halloween, F&W, maybe a little RunDisney and dare I say it - a holiday decoration or two 😍🤣

Yes! This is why I'm drawn to FW44 also.
But, February is a very nice time of year weather wise too, and I like Festival of the Arts.
