I can't imagine that everyone wasn't wowed by Arnold. He has been a citizen for at least 25 years. Should he be allowed to run for president?

Since the Constitution says no, I believe that answers the question. I wouldn't support an amendment just to allow Arnold to run.

Edited to fix spelling errors

no he shouldn't be allowed to run for President.

My answer would be no as well.

But I'd like to hear from those that think it should be changed.

Another no-vote here, although he was great last night! There are reasons for not letting people who were not born here be president, so I think we have to stick to it. For example, if a conflict or issue came up with their native country, there might be some bias for that country.

I just don't get it.

Bill Clinton is a womanizer. Republicans say how immoral he is.

Arnold is a womanizer, he's the Republican hero and they want to change the constitution so he can run for president?

I personally don't think the Constitution should be ammended based on one speech at a National Convention.

And, since I do not live in California, I do not know enough about how Govenor Schwarzenegger is conducting himself and running his state and therefore would not vote to allow him (and then anyone else of foreign birth) to become President of the USA.

If you consider however, that this country has been built on immigrants, (George Washington was an immigrant), perhaps that thinking is outdated. I am undecided and would certainly entertain arguements from either side. I understand the Orin Hatch has proposed an amendment to allow naturalized citizens to run after 25 years.

I would vote no here also... but I would pay close attention if this ever became a real issue. I admit that I haven't spent enough time considering the pros and cons and would at least be open to hearing the other side.

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

It's funny how some say Arnold is so great, yet others (not just liberals) never fail to laugh hysterically when he opens his mouth for more than 10 seconds...

If I had a personal say in the matter, I'd definitely consider an amendment for those not born in the US to run for President, but certainly not for the sake of Arnold.

I understand your point about bias, however, I think you could also argue that there are people who were born here who have stronger allegiances to other countries, whether it is the country their parents are from, or people like that kid who was fighting with the Taliban.

IMO, I don't think this rule should be changed JUST for Arnold. I think it should be changed for any immigrant, who has lived here a long time, proven themself to be a good leader. This country was founded by immigrants, after all.

I can't imagine you'd want another Kennedy in the White House. :teeth:

I would also vote no to anyone born outside of the country becoming President.

And just for the record - George Washington was born in
Westmoreland County, Va.

While that may be true, the US didn't exist in 1732.
